For a long time, I was determined to be straight. Internalized homophobia meant I used any 'attraction' to men as evidence o wasn't gay. However, the 'men' i had 'crushes' on were always the least straight options. In my mind Jack Sparrow was the 'straight' option. Also Mollymauk from critical role.

I've since realized it was more of a gender thing.

I just saw a post shipping method and Caleb and I have soooo many thoughts. First off I GET IT! I personally don't 'ship' them, but i absolutely adore the complicated layers to their relationship!

The dynamics of their relationship were often questioned by other characters, especially during the beginning of the campaign. Aside from the occasional innuendo, their relationship was mostly communicated as familial. In the very beginning, we, the audience, were led to believe Caleb filled a caretaker role for Veth(Nott at the time). It was brilliant when Sam flipped this assumption on its head with the line, "He is my boy. i take care of him!". As the campaign continues and more of their backstories are revealed, this 'parental' dynamic becomes even more beautiful and heartbreaking. Veth is a mother looking to return to her husband and child. However, once she does, it becomes clear that her life has been irrevocably changed. Caleb is a man grieving for his parents and his childhood. He is haunted and racked with guilt for the violence he committed against them.

Veth and Caleb's connection is so deep. For a long time, they were all each other had. I view their relationship as queer platonic. There are also definitely flirtatious undertones to their relationship at times, and it plays well into their individual story arcs. Through their connection to each other, they are able to start learning to love themselves.
