Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe

Finally in the Northern Water Tribe at the end of Book 1! We meet the wonderful Princess Yue and shenanigans ensue. I wanted the Northern and Southern Water Tribes to have related yet distinct tastes in fashion. Yue is still wearing a fantasy combination of Inuit/Yakut/Mongolian clothing but with a little bit of Great Plains Indigenous Regalia. Oh and her very important hair reference to Chinese "fairy maidens" (It's a Tang* Dynasty hairstyle associated with minor deities).

In retrospect, one thing I kinda like in ATLA is how Zuko never tells the gaang how he got his scar.

It would have been cool to see their reactions to Zuko's story and see how their perspective on Zuko changed. And I have no doubt that he tells them about it at some point. But this way, it doesn't come off as emotional blackmail, with him trying to paint his actions as 'Yes, I hunted you across the world, but I actually had a really good reason."

If he did, he might have had a better chance of joining the Gaang, but he doesn't. In traditional Zuko fashion, he takes the most challenging route possible.

Zuko takes full accountability for his actions, even though they came from a place where he felt he had no choice. Because at the end of the day, he realized that even though his father put him on his avatar's path, he was the one who zealously attacked them at every opportunity. He isn't letting himself off the hook for anything.

I was born and raised in Gaza, a place I once called home. Life was simple but beautiful. I remember sitting with my family in the evenings, drinking tea and telling stories. I remember walking through the streets, greeting neighbors, feeling like I belonged. I remember celebrating birthdays, laughing over silly jokes, and dreaming about the future.

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed. My home is gone. My family is not whole anymore. My city is unrecognizable. 💔 The streets that once felt so safe are now filled with emptiness. The laughter has been replaced with silence.

And yet, I hold onto my memories. Because memories remind me of who I am, where I come from, and what truly matters. They remind me that love, family, and connection are stronger than destruction.

If you’re reading this, take a moment to appreciate the little things. Hug your family, tell someone you love them, appreciate the warmth of home. These small moments are what truly make life beautiful. 💙

We do it because people need an escape from how brutal life can be, and it is the honour of a lifetime to be that for them, if only for a night. We do it because life comes in waves, in phases, in brilliant flurries of magical moments, and all of these things come together to create….Eras. Having a really long-term hyperfixation that has since faded is terrifying yes but it's also so embarrassing. Hi I used to think about Scrimblo Splungus 25/7. Yeah, for 2 years straight. Nah, I don't think about them anymore except for with a vague sense of melancholy as I recall how they used to make me feel. Anyways this new one, Blimpkins McGee? I'm gonna think about them forever and the cycle will NOT repeat in 2 years. Trust me guys.
