NaNoWriMo 2023

Hello, friends!

This is my official announcement that I will be participating in NaNoWriMo 2023! My goal is 20,000 words, not the full 5k, but this is my first year participating, so please give me some grace.

I will try my best to give weekly updates as I go through this journey.

The working title of the story I will be working on is Coup of the Copperhead Queen.

This started out as a story idea a few years ago, then turned into a D&D campaign (which never took off due to scheduling issues). Now, it is a story again! Yay!

This story will follow the head servants of the Copperhead Queen, a woman so desperate for power that she will do whatever it takes to get it. What happens within the walls of her manor? How? And what happens when the crown prince arrives with an army just outside of the front door?

Welcome to the Hexaporium!

Hexapod = Anthropod clade that includes insects, Collembola, Protura, and Diplura

Vivarium = An area for raising plants and animals for observation and research

What is the Hexaporium?

The Hexaporium is the name of the bug-dominated universe that I am writing. Inhabited entirely by bugs, the worldbuilding is primarily based on biology and paleontology. It started as a creative writing assignment, but now is a passion project of mine and I hope you guys enjoy it too!

Several kingdoms make up the world of the Hexaporium, each with a unique population and culture. Each have their own ways of living as well as their own problems, solutions, and stories.

The way I intend to write for this project is one episodic story at a time and build the world as I go. I have the first story planned out and some of it written, but I also have several ideas for this world ready to be expanded upon.

I hope to have the first chapter of the first story uploaded soon! It needs to go through some final editing and then it can be sent this way.

Author Introduction

Hello!

My name is Creek, I use they/them pronouns, and I am 19 years old. I am an aspiring writer going into my sophomore year of college as of fall 2023 with the intention to double-major in history and geology. I also play music (the bass clarinet), sing, and I love theater (my favorite play is the Musical Comedy Murders of the 1940s and my favorite musical, though ever changing, is Little Shop of Horrors at the moment).

I wouldn't say I have a defined genre of what I write, but I have a few fantasy WIPs. I tend to shy away from realistic (as a genre) and romantic plotlines, simply because that is not what I am interested in as a reader. Currently, I only have a psychological thriller short story published, though it won't be available to read online for a few months longer. I have written fanfiction, but I intend to keep it completely separated from where I post my original works.
