Speed Kills, but So Does Getting Off the Couch

a/n: hii! welcome back! i’m really glad you enjoyed the other one and thank you again for requesting! I hope you’ll like this one as well!

Hyoma was always in a rush, whether because he forgot about the time while he was straightening his hair, making him already twenty minutes late to his meeting, or because he had a match to win; he was running. You, on the other hand were as lazy as it gets.

You had your gaming setup in the corner of your apartment (natural habitat), with a nest of beanbags, snacks, and fuzzy blankets. Your perfect day? Leveling up in cozy farming sims, napping mid-quest, and maybe ordering takeout if you got ‘too exhausted’ from deciding what to cook.

Hyoma swears you remind him of someone he knows, but he just can’t quite put a finger on who exactly it is. Not that it matters, he is actually very much a fan of your laidback character. It’s a breath of fresh air to get tangled in your arms after a long day of practice, just napping away all the exhaustion. The best part is? You never complain. In fact, you probably enjoy it more than he does. You just read, or play your switch while playing with his hair, doing your own thing, but still letting him relax.

“You’ve been in the exact same position since I left this morning.” Hyoma pointed out, stepping into your shared bedroom. He smiled, rolling his eyes at your adorable expression, but much less adorable explanation. “I just ran 20 kilometres, both ways.” He complained, definitely jealous of your morning, but you just hummed in acknowledgment, getting up to wrap him in an embrace. “Cool. I leveled up my fishing skill and caught The Legend.” Hyoma relaxed into your hug instantly, his sore muscles suddenly didn’t bother him anymore. He squeezed his arms around you, determined to squish you against him as much as possible. “You should come on a run with me sometimes.” He mumbled sleepily, making you pull back from him almost immediately. “Only if I can use the electric roller while you wheeze your lungs out.” You answered with a deadpan expression, but he just hugged you again, tugging you towards the bed.

“You are no fun. I promise I’ll adjust to your pace.” He chuckled, pushing you down into the mountain of plushies you apparently needed for a good night's sleep, and cuddled up against you. “That means we are going on a walk. I don’t run, too much effort.” You waved him off, but he was already fast asleep in your arms. You just sighed, petting his head gently, to not wake him. Maybe you should accompany him just once.

To be honest, you never had much of an interest in football, and you didn’t have any interest in Nagi Seishiro either. You were strangers. Two people who shared the shooting location of the movie of your life, but never destined to actually meet. You merely shared some classes, so when he came back to school, the only reason you really noticed was because of your classmates. They were constantly swarming around him, asking questions and bombarding him with compliments, and though Nagi never seemed like someone enthusiastic to begin with, you noticed that he was a ghost of even his former self. He hated the attention he received.

You felt sorry for him, more than anything. He looked like he had enough on his plate without them pestering him, but at the same time, you kinda understood them, they were just curious and simply too excited to pick up on the subtle frown and uninterested looks from him.

Luckily for Nagi, things seemed to quiet down after a few days. People went back to their everyday activities, and let him be, but you found yourself doing just the opposite of that. Your gaze seemed to linger on him more often, and your thoughts seemed to be occupied with him more frequently. Was this your saviour complex? He was clearly suffering from something deep, but no one seemed to care; maybe you just felt bad. Even if you went up to him, what the hell would you say? You barely knew his name. It’s not like you’d have anything meaningful to tell him.

Yet it seems fate had other plans for you. You left one of your textbooks in your desk, you really needed it for an assignment, so you decided to waltz back into the classroom for it. It’s not like anyone would be there, right? Wrong.

You found the very boy, you concerned yourself so much with these past days, hunched over his desk, sobbing quietly as he watched the football club’s practice, and your heart dropped. You’ve officially seen Nagi Seishiro cry before you saw him with a genuine smile on his face, and it left a very sour taste in your mouth. You closed the classroom door behind you, which made him lift his head to look at you. You froze before apologising quietly. “I’m sorry, I just have to grab my book.” It earned a small nod from him, his eyes stayed glued to you, as you reached into your desk, then shoved a textbook into your bag. You stood up to leave, and you really intended to. This had nothing to do with you. You have zero context and zero right to comment about it, yet when you were about to close the door behind you, you stopped. You turned around and walked over straight to his desk, fished a crumbled tissue out of the pocket of your uniform, and placed it into his palm.

“Don’t worry, it’s clean…” You said awkwardly, looking at the state it was in, then shook your head to get back to the point. “I don’t know what’s wrong,” You started, looking down at your feet, so you wouldn’t chicken out. “But the others said you can still play football, right? I know you said you were done, but if it means this much to you, you shouldn’t quit.” You mumbled, finally looking up into his eyes. “It’s sad… to see you like this.” Those were your final words, before you turned around to leave for real this time, but you stopped at the doorway once more when you heard his soft voice calling out after you. “Thanks Y/N.” You nodded with a small smile and closed the door behind you. Maybe you didn’t know anything about Nagi Seishiro, but you were glad you decided to talk to him.

“You look like you’re trying to memorise me for a test or something.” Hyoma mentioned casually, not really bothered by the intense looks you sent his way. After all, who would have an issue with this lover finding them attractive? Still, he was curious what made you so mesmerised all the time. “Maybe I am.” You smiled, walking up to him to kiss his cheeks, then disappeared into your shared bathroom.

But it kept happening over and over again, and Hyoma’s curiosity started to get the better of him. “Are you okay? You keep zoning out.” He asked, tilting his head to the side. You were hunched over your notebook, occasionally flipping your wrist in elegant movements, clearly invested in whatever you were doodling, yet for some reason, you kept glancing up at him.

You smiled, turning the sketchbook his way, revealing your latest work. It was him, casually leaning against the headboard, reading his novel. He was honestly amazed. The details and the way you seemed to capture his features so perfectly were amazing. “Flip through it.” You said, urging him gently, so he did. Drawings, pages upon pages of him, sleeping, braiding his hair, eating, and even some ridiculous poses that made him send a glare your way. “These are memories I never want to forget… so I drew them.” You continued as your boyfriend reached the end of your notebook. “You could have just taken a picture.” He answered, amazed by the hours of work that must have gone into this. “I could yes… and I did. Like hundreds of them.” You chuckled sweetly. “But this is a lot better.”

After what had to be at least an hour of pushing and stepping on strangers feet, you finally emerged victorious, standing at the base of the stairs with a blue lock bear plushie in your hand, a small gift you brought for him in the other, and a jersey with his name and number on you, waiting patiently for him to finally show up. You felt like a groupie. It was a new and awkward experience. He shouted excitedly, then he was immediately whacked in the face by a pack of Kintsuba you bought him. He stumbled to catch it, looking at you with an ‘are you for real?’ expression, before smiling brightly again. “I did it! y/n we are rich!” You just chuckled, shaking your head at his stupid joke, but the words he used immediately calmed something in you down. ‘We.’ Guess you didn’t have to worry about anything after all.
