There aren’t nearly enough openly black lesbian characters in movies/shows for me to blush and fangirl over. And if I had it growing up, I would’ve felt less alone. Don’t get me wrong I’m grateful for movies like The Watermelon Woman but I wish there were more lesbian romance films with stud leads - and black sapphic centered films of ALL genres. Cartoons included.

Wanna give a huge shoutout to Queen Latifah, Cheryl Dune, Lena Waithe, Laverne Cox, Jerrie Johnson, Zoe Saldaña, Nafessa Williams, Lee Rodriguez, Ayo Edebiri, Amandla Stenberg, Imani Lewis, Punkie Johnson, Samira Wiley, Brandee Evans, Quintessa Swindell, Javicia Leslie, and all black lesbian/sapphic actors, filmmakers, writers, and creators for giving us representation.

Thank you, we appreciate you for giving us a spotlight in mainstream media and talking about our struggles. We deserve recognition! We deserve black lesbian characters we can resonate with - and crush on! We deserve media we can reference and talk about amongst ourselves!! We deserve all that gay shit!!
