Alexandra: This is a question on behalf of the game’s roleplaying community. Many players, who do not act as if they are the Warrior of Light, but rather pretend to be everyday adventurers, were excited to create stories that take place on the First but saw that the game’s narrative didn’t really allow travel for “normal” individuals to end up there. If players want to pretend their “normal” characters can travel to and play on the First, is that okay? (I promise this is a question that many of them eagerly await an answer to.)

Yoshida: Hrm… Personally, I see video games as something that gives you the freedom to play however you like. So, if you, the player, believe that you can travel to the First, then so be it, right?

We have yet to reveal everything about who the Warrior of Light is, and whether they are the only ones who are special. Furthermore, the definition of a “normal individual” seems a bit vague here, as well. I think the power to believe and the desire to persevere are the biggest elements that drive progress in an individual, and so if you believe that you as a character can go to the First, then wouldn’t that be enough? A life dictated by someone else is no fun anyhow, is it?- Interview

The Court of Thieves [LS - Balmung] Recruitment is Open!

“The laws of society are each a weight upon the poor. With each day, another dozen pounds is added to the shoulders of those who already carry so much, all for the benefit of the few and the rich. To become a thief is to disregard these laws, to shrug free the weights upon your back… but to become one of us is to cut others free, and rise together.”

Who Are We?

The Court of Thieves is a Linkshell community comprised of criminal roleplayers located on Balmung in the Crystal Data Center! The main goal of the Court of Thieves is to secure a place within the world as a sort of ‘Thieves’ Haven’ – with eyes carefully watching the ongoing conflict between the Alliance and the Empire. 

Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, they have defended the refugees and indentured–left to rot within the city while the rich only grow richer–time and time again while seeking solutions that could ignite the fires within the people and stand with them as they rise up. 

Known famously for their bombing of three record offices in Ul’dah, their efforts wiped the debts out of dozens of indebted servants, freeing them from the Bloodsands and forced labor in one single move. No single person was apprehended for these bombings, but the custom coins left behind on the scene, with a single skull in a crown on it’s face were very telling of the true culprits.

Where Can You Find Us?

The Coin & Crown Pawn Shop - A seedy shop run by even shadier people, located in the Mists of La Noscea. Anything you want or need, sold at the right price in one easy stop. Items and relics and tools and tech, everything has a price–including the services of the Thieves holed up there. Above the shop is the Thieve’s Den, a hangout and resting area known by any within the Underground as a safe haven for the weary, the beds are open to any, and violence against another thief there is forbidden… unless you’re below on the last floor. There, an open bar remains with warm food and inviting drinks–as well as an arena in the middle to get those bar fights out of one’s system. A betting counter is available to those spectating, and breakable chairs are available to those participating in the ring.

The Mirage - A massive Black Market venue in the deep deserts of Thavnair, difficult to reach unless one has an invitation, it houses the most notorious and coveted of goods–well worth the risk of one’s life to get there. Home to an immensely powerful Daeva and his ever loyal Jackals, it is perhaps the most guarded and sanctified place within the Court of Thieves’ grasp. A VIP lounge overlooks the market for those who are friends of the King of Thieves himself, any form of coin or bartering is allowed though violence for the sake of violence will be put to rest swiftly. Those causing trouble within the Mirage will find themselves in the middle of the treacherous desert sands, alone and left to wander.

Festival of Nhaama

What:  The Festival of Nhaama

Where: Reunion on Balmung

When: November 16th

Time: 8 PM EST

Seeking: Vendors, Performers, and Assistants with the events

For the first time ever The Dusk-Spear Alliance will be hosting a Xaela themed festival in the Azim Steppes. In an attempt to foster relations not just between competing tribes but non-Xaela as well, the Alliance is running a host of events during the Festival. Additionally there will be spaces for both Vendors to sell their wares and Performers to put on a show. This will not be a Xaela only event, people and Free Companies are more than welcome to both participate or volunteer.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help out. We have slots open to assist with Archery and Horseback Riding, as well as open stalls for Vendors and spots for performers. If you wish to assist with anything in the event please contact either @a-wanderers-sorrow or @foofmastaflex.

Bokh

The Bokh tournament will have sixteen open slots for fighters to participate. Bokh is a traditional form of wrestling for Mongolians/Xaelas. Prior to the match the participants will perform a dance of respect for their opponents. During the match no part of the body other than the foot may touch the ground, and the first to force their opponent to do so wins. These fights will be overseen by the Kete Sunir, the Khan of the Dusk-Spear Tribe. The rules will be simple. As this is a wrestling match there will be no weapons, magic, use of wildlife, or dirty fighting allowed. This is a test of strength and honor and should be fought as such. ((We will be using Grindstone rules so the first to three wins and knocks their opponent to the ground.))

Archery

Competition Archery for the event will be handled by traditional Mongolian/Xaela rules. Sixteen archers will be allowed to compete in this competition and will be given four arrows per set. Each set will consist of four rounds during which a wall of surs will be set up in front of the Archers. The surs will be wooden cylinders stacked three high with one pillar per archer, standing approximately eight ilms tall. Archers will receive points based on how many surs they knock out of the wall each round. After all four rounds the four highest scoring archers of each group from the first set will move on to a second set and repeat. From the second set the four winners will move on to a final set, at which point the highest scoring archer will be declared the winner.

Horseback Racing

The third and final competition that will be held during the Festival will be Horseback Racing. The race will start from the Northern gate of Reunion and run the entire length of the Azim Steppes with four checkpoints throughout, and finishing when passing through the Southern gate of Reunion. Each checkpoint will have an obstacle the the riders will have to bypass before moving on to the next. The first racer to make it through the finish gate wins.

Sign ups:

Sign ups for each of the events will begin on October 1st and End on October 31st at 11:59 PM EST. Any participants beyond the number allowed for each event will be listed as backups in case the initial sign ups do not show to the event.

The Festivities will start with an Opening Ceremony by the Dusk-Spear Tribe at 8 PM EST and the contests will start at 9 PM EST. After the open ceremony ends vendors will be free to sell their wares and performances will also start.

An official event document will be posted as we get closer to the date. Again if you wish to volunteer to be a vendor, performer, or to assist with one of the competitions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

I decided to build a new alt and since I wasn't actively role-playing in-game with Chi I figured what would be the harm?! We’ll go over how he convinces women to lower their guard, attempts to coerce them into ERP, socially isolates them from other RPers, and discards them once he’s successfully acquired what he wanted.

Warning/PSA : Lord Sesshomaru

Every once in a while, our FC will tentatively open our recruitment gates. We usually get a wide variety of applications. Some are thoroughly filled out, while others barely have anything written in them. For the applications that aren’t filled in completely, our officers are in charge of handling OOC interviews (typically 1-3 questions) to get a feel for whether or not a person is a good fit for our FC. In late April of last month, we received a rather blank application from a player named Lord Sesshomaru. We saved their lodestone link (standard procedure in case they name-change) as we considered recruiting them if they passed the OOC interview questions.

On April 30th, Lord Sesshomaru contacted one of our officers. This is the log…

Lord Sesshomaru’s reaction to such a standard OOC interview question left a rather bad impression on our staff, so we dismissed their application while other players had no issue answering the same question.

Today (May 15th), Lord Sesshomaru submitted another FC application, this time more filled out. However, due to the attitude they exhibited back on April 30th, we were very apprehensive. They were offline when we denied their app, so we could not contact them to talk. Soon afterward, they signed in and contacted one of our officers. Here are the logs…

TLDR; This person tried to re-apply to NOX and we rejected their application. They claimed the April 30th log we have on them isn’t actually them (even though they exhibit the same typing style and emotes, and we had saved their lodestone link). They then claimed to contact a GM about it, then threatened to slander our FC for not letting them in.

Please be aware this person is highly unstable, and the same stuffy attitude they exhibited toward our recruitment officer last month ended up seeping out yet again with another one of our officers.
