Sometimes you have to tell someone that they are the cause of their own problems, even though it's hard to hear.

Hi, I noticed your story has conflict in it, and I was wondering why you didn't just write people who are right doing everything correctly with a note saying "I enthusiastically co-sign everything in this story"? Must be some kind of mistake haha

I actually do feel like the "unemployed friend on a Tuesday" meme actually helps de-stigmatize unemployment because it frequently affirms that when you don't have a job you're more likely to be getting up to some weird shit rather than just lazing around. But I also feel like the unemployed friend is frequently up to some random shit because there's a whole pile of miscellaneous life tasks that full-time employment keeps people from. The unemployed friend is helping their cousin move, or babysitting, or checking in with a neighbor with mobility issues. The unemployed friend is a walking thesis on the inflexibility of our current labor landscape and just how much work exists outside of work.

You pride yourself on your knowledge and love of literature, yet you believe in the banning of certain books?
You know to criticise a topic, you have to talk about it, but let's ban Lolita, right?
It's always "A society that doesn't learn from history is doomed to repeat it", but we should ban Mein Kampf, right?
We say, "If you don't like it, don't read it," but not the book that is uncomfortable to read, it should be banned, right?
You believe in sex positivity, but books that include fetishes or odd kinks shouldn't be on shelves, right?
You can like villains in TV shows while understanding that they are evil and that their behavior shouldn't be repeated, but books that don't condemn the behavior or romanticize it should be banned, right?
Books like The Sun and Her Flowers, Are You There God? It's Me Margaret, and Front Desk are being banned in schools thanks to conservative groups like Moms for Liberty, and you agree that it's wrong. Yet when it comes to books you personally find immoral, those ones should be banned, right?
You are no different than those that want to ban queer books in schools, you think you are morally superior to others and believe in censorship of knowledge because of it. Don't be a hypocrite, do not support the banning of ANY book, even the ones that make you uncomfortable.

writing really is just googling synonyms. that's it. just a constant carousel of "I used this word two paragraphs ago, what is another word for this word"

Underrated annoyance when discussing lightlark: the book titles refer to multiple concepts in-universe, or similar sounding ones.
So we have Lightlark the book, which takes place in the pocket dimension of Lightlark, which contains an island called... Lightlark.
The people who made Lightlark isle and Lightlark world came from Skyshade world, introduced in Skyshade the book, and all of this is unrelated to the Skyling people (who live on Skyling the island, and once lived on Sky isle)
The Nightshades (an irl plant) have nightbane (a fictional plant, book 2 title) and live on Nightshade island.
This.... is no way to name things.

Self-advocacy is really a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing. Many people growing up are taught [at least in my culture] that asking for things that you want or need unprompted is disrespectful. Especially if it's from an authority figure who does not view the need as necessity.
We already live in a point in time where people feel bad for taking up the space and time of others, they feel like they are burdening their friends by needing reciprocation, they feel like the servers hate them just for talking, and there's a heavy weight around asking for more than what you are currently being given. A fear of being told you are undeserving of more, or that those around you can't provide what you need. And a general understanding that asking for things may make you seem high-maintenance, entitled, or annoying.
On the other hand, if you don't directly ask for something you need, you are often shamed for not communicating well, even if you were taught that asking for stuff is rude. Even if everything above is weighing on your soul before the question or assertion of need has left your lips.
There are tons of reasons someone might be scared to ask for something, the last thing they need is for someone to complain that they need to communicate better. Or that they should have made it clearer.
We really do need to lead with compassion first when someone expresses a need to us, yes it can be annoying that they didn't tell you sooner, but when you say things like that you are verbally punishing them for telling you at all.
Educators and parents, you need to be laying the foundation for self-advocacy and listening to those in your care, friends and partners we need to show understanding of the journey it takes to open up about our needs and wants with one another. And collectively we can all work on being better at speaking our needs, and being compassionate of others.

A lot of people think autism research is solely this vague grouping of evil non autistic people guessing at things from afar, but as much as that happens, I want to inform you with insider knowledge a lot of modern autism research is done by autistic people!
And a fun fact related to this: "autism" is a common special interest! As in, a lot of autistic people have autism itself as a special interest (esp women, perhaps bc they're likely to be late or self diagnosed). People with a special interest in autism are also more likely to get involved in autism research as participants, and thus there's a known overrepresention of it as a special interest in data

Writing Ideas: Betrayal Tropes
Tumblr media
Bad Samaritan: The villain who acts kind and uses good deeds to lure the heroes into a false sense of security, before turning the tables on them for their master plan.
Black Shirt: Someone who secretly wishes for the enemy to win so they can side with them.
Broken Pedestal: Someone finds out that the person they idolized wasn't quite as heroic and noble as they thought they were.
Dead Person Impersonation: A character impersonates a beloved dead member of another group.
Defecting for Love: A character switches sides due to falling in love with someone of the other camp.
Personal Horror: The one thing worse than being betrayed by others is betraying yourself and your sense of who you are.
Prisoner's Dilemma: Do you cooperate, stay silent and hope your partner doesn't betray you, or do you rat them out and hope they don't do the same to you?
Turncoat: A character that switches sides in order to help out the other side.
Unwitting Pawn: Someone is being manipulated all along and doesn't know it.
Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Manipulating people by pretending that someone hurt you.
These tropes include how characters betray each other's trust
Usually a Plot Twist of some kind (except when it isn't).
Contrast with Trusting and Loyalty tropes.
Victims of betrayal are often motivated to seek retribution against the traitor through revenge.
