Another Time

New AU! More info under the cut :3

Kai from Monstrosity ends up in the past! Like, waaaay in the past. As in before Lloyd ever even meets the other ninja (but after he leaves the school). Kai accidentally ends up taking him in.

He spends most of the time unintentionally building himself a cryptid status, with a bit of vigilantism and eliminating old issues before they become problems (ie. Nadakhan, Harumi, the Great Devourer, etc.). He wants to keep his younger self and family safe and innocent.

In this AU, Lloyd doesn't grow up too fast and Kai teaches him to control his powers.

Cosmetic differences: Kai is literally in black and white, because I think it's cool as hell. The land of monsters holds on to him even decades in the past. Most people don't notice he's devoid of colour unless he removes his hat and mask. His eyes are completely white (like the ninja turtles), but sometimes he can make them more human looking, with a pupil and whatnot, except his iris remains white (with a dark ring)!

Lloyd's eyes stay red (rather than becoming green like they do in most headcanon's I've seen), and his oni/dragon traits show more gradually, naturally, and earlier than they do in canon (probably because subconsciously he feels safer to be himself around Kai).

Kai is the ultimate big brother/dad, even when he's going through some things. Because, believe me, he is NOT okay.

There ARE two Kais running around in this world, because I think younger Kai's reaction to his future self would be really funny.

Headcanon that dragons raise their young communally, so when Heatwave and his kid move in with the ninja (to Heatwave's eyes, a gang of mostly Wyldfyre-shaped individuals, as well as one baby dragon and one strangely Wyldfyre-shaped dragon, ) he immediately accepts that he and Kai are co-parenting Wyldfyre (he isn't so sure about the 25 year old Wyldfyre-shaped Lloyd).

So like whenever the Ninja go off with Wyldfyre he's like: "great, Red One has the child. Nap time." And whenever he's around Ryuu, he gives him the good old parental:"I see you don't you try anything," look that seems to transcend species.

He eventually grows to view an adult-but-not-quite-child-rearing-age Lloyd the same way humans might view the collage grad student they hired as a babysitter. Lloyd doesn't know the cultural context, but he knows Something is going on. Ryuu's bedtime is enforced by THREE adults, and he's so over it. Kai has no idea he and Heatwave are in an established custody agreement. It doesn't occur to Wyldfyre to mention this to anyone.

Nya: Uh, Kai???

Kai, dialing back: Y-you stepped on the ant! What did she ever do to you?!?! She even made sure to stay out of your food whenever you dont finish it!!!

Nya, half asleep: ...I'm gonna go now and check on Jay. You, uh, continue whatever it is you're doing.

Kai: She was the queen bee!! Or, queen ant? But no, there's already a queen ant... anyway, you've incurred the wrath of her clique. I can't save you this time, sis. Just know I warned you.

Nya: Kai, eat some breakfast. Now.

(For the next few days, Nya would get 3x as many ant bites as normal)
