"Damavea gallophilus: An omnivorous quadroped adapted for life on the peripheries of marshes and river estuaries where it wades on its lean legs. I've observed them scavenging dead birds and rodents and grazing various flora but their favourite meal appears to be crabs. They chase down the crustaceans with fervour and sley them with a quick stamp of the forelegs which usually punctures their shell on first impact. The enlarged upper vertibrae are intriguing and its my theory these are an adaptation for the violent rutting behaviour I've observed. Males and females both compete for dominance in their respective pecking orders. A challenger will instigate a duel with a head butt and then the combatants will lock in at shoulder and neck, each attempting to dipp their opponents head and throw them off balance and into the mud. Conflicts like this at the highest levels of the social order can end with the loser being held by the victors forelegs underwater for some time. " Nephilael lepuer: A cipher of creeping paranoia whose appetite for human fear has become apparent to me as my forays into its domain have brought me face to face with its many mechanisms of extracting that emotion. To recount my observations of this species is to call into analysis those praeterliminal nightmares into which I have strayed and within which I have little ability to act at all rationaly let alone record data accurately. It goes without saying then that my notes on the creature in situ must be interpreted only as occulted impressions of a being whose true nature is yet to be illuminated. Unlike the other species recounted thus far this creature does not normally puncture the planus nostri with any phisical body but instead intersects our plane only at the threads of its pshychomantic web. It was this weave that drew my astral body to it like a fish on a hook and it was only because of my somewhat paranoid routine of shielding rituals that I was spared serious psychospiritual trauma. In following encounters I was able to engeneer a sort of astral toxin within the extremities of my own body. As the creature fed on these parts it was gradually weakened untill during the latest visitation I was able to drag the spectre back into the realm of man. The shock of entry calified its body and the effort has taken a terrible tole on me. But I now have a phisical specimen to study and research can continue soon.. "Scarabus bibliophagus: At present I can say little about the habits of this highly elusive hexaped. I have observed them alive only in fleeting moments but have managed to aquire specimens, shed exoskeletons and a single deceased adult, retrieved from the great libraries by my allies who have access there. I've struck a sort of research arrangement with those scholars who lack the common superstitious nerves and share my interest in these fauna which scuttle in the liminal darkness. Also, the result of its grazing habits are set to cost the library somewhat! Its elusiveness appears largely due to the ability to colour its epidermis at will or in reflex to the exact shade of its surroundings, much like certain reptiles & aquatic octapeds I've seen in the tropics. This ability lies in the shell itself and can occasionally be triggered in the exoskeletons in my collection. At a glance its anatomy is insectoid, with what appear to be mandibles, segmented body and dual stings, retractable into a bulbous abdomen. This similarity is only cosmetic of course. As is evident by the many books found stripped of their content, texts redused to incomprehensible gibberish, the creature is a bibliophage, or to be more precise a scientiophage. It is my belief that by some occult means the creature is sustained by the resonance between the written word and its counterpart in the mind of man. I think the hollow chambers and odd extensions of its exoskeleton serve as resonating chambers and antennae for these aetheric transmissions. The process seems to strip not only the tomes of their meaning but the minds of those who have read them of the specific knowledge gained therin." Its the day before Jesus Christs birthday.. Heres another lie.. "Scitiphus picos: It appears that though diminutive winglike appendages persist this creature has long ago lost its true flight in favour of long strong legs and a leaping form of locomotion. Through what affliction, heavenly curse or natural processes this can be attributed I can only speculate at this point. The feathers that remain serve only to stabilise the creature in the air as it leaps accross the rocks of the Tibetan plateau springing up to 30 yards at a time and landing with uncanny grace on its pad like feet. It feads on flying insects the same as some of the local birds though I have also observed it scurrying on the backs of grasing Yak to pick off the skin parasites there. The call of Scitiphus can be likened to the scraping of rusted metal plates, interspersed with low and resonant "knocks". The volume and frequency of the knocking sound increases when the creature is atop a particularly lousy Yak. The next creature to be unearthed.. "Furmico aegarica: A highly intelligent bipedal carnivore that inhabits british wood and heathland and feeds mainly on rodents and young birds. Careful observation has revealed this species to be nomadic with individuals forming close social bonds within travelling troops of around ten or so members. Seasonal mating occurs in the darkest winter months around certain weirding sites Ive discovered where many troops gather. These gatherings can last for months and during this time individuals play, quarrel, fight in competition and pair off for copulation. Troops exchange members and upon reaching some kind of agreement within their number, will leave the site to travel on. I have noticed that rarely do parental pairs remain within the same troop for the coming year. Fermico young are raised by the troop and form no discernable bond to their biological parents stronger than that between any other member of the troop." Some work that a few of you might not have seen. Going right back to 2013 around when I started this account.. or possibly much much earlier to sometime around the 16th century and a little known rogue alchemist.. This odd critter and the others that will follow, were pulled onto this plane of reality partly to aid my own mental health at the time and partly to manifest in hyperstitious construction of the manifold legend that is/was/will be Praeterlimina.. Damiur curilli: A curious creature, apparently mammalian, which utilities a symbiosis with a necrotizing bacteria to hunt prey much larger than itself. The nature of its immunity is unknown but the bacteria are passed from mother to child in her milk and colonise the newborns gut and, later their respiratory tract. Curilli hunt in packs and target larger mammals, infecting them by spraying with saliva. Adults will pounce, latch on with their elongate limbs and use their flexible, boney toungue to inject saliva beneath the softer fleshy areas. The pack will then stalk at a distance for the days or weeks that it takes the prey to become weakened by the infection.
