In addition to being a pole dance instructor and owner of Flying Curves Dance Studio, I also own a video production company, MercVille Productions, with my boyfriend. I was a reality television producer for over a decade and I always knew I wanted to bring my love for pole dancing and my love for storytelling and production together. I started doing this with my student showcase “Goddesses Empowered: The Show” and brought it out to a wider audience with our web series The Pole Dancing Chronicles . Our newest project with creator of Pole Expo, Fawnia Mondey, is a Pole-tical campaign that features my students Audra, Molly, and Jaime talking about how pole dancing makes them feel. Check it out and let me know how pole dancing makes you feel!

Patience and Pole:
Patience and Pole do not usually go hand in hand. I am reminded of that in every class I teach and take myself. It is very easy to become impatient when you look at the other students around you accomplishing tricks faster then you. The thing is impatience will do nothing more than sabotage your own progress. Why waste the energy being upset with yourself when you can put that energy into learning the trick. Everybody is at different fitness levels and moves at a different pace. That is something to keep in mind at all times throughout your pole journey. You will get there. Focus (on yourself), the tricks at hand, and most important stay consistent with your pole practice. I have seen the difference in my students that come once a week vs 2 times a week but coming once a week is better than coming once every other week or once a month The point is stay consistent with it and you will become stronger and then surprise you will find yourself accomplishing tricks that once seemed impossible. Practicing patience with the pole will make you more productive!! The photo above is of one of my students who has been frustrated with her "inability" to climb. Well, take a look at her now!

This is a group pic from the studio’s Halloween Party :) I am so grateful to have the most amazing students (not all are pictured). Every day is a constant reminder that I have chosen the right path in life. I get to be a part of their journey to finding the best versions of themselves. Confident, adventurous, bold, fierce. These are women with different backgrounds, all sizes, shapes, and ages. They come to class open minded and open hearted to whatever class will bring them that night/day. There are tears, laughter, or both at the same time. Stories are told through movement. Problems are worked out through movement. They heal, they grow, they discover, they find themselves. And I witness this every day. Their stories fill my heart and I am inspired by them. I truly am “hashtag” blessed.

This is a piece from our guest stars from the Mudo Movement Team. Most who have never danced or performed before. A pole student's story...
Goddess Name: Bella Rose When Bella first walked in the door a year and a half ago, I wasn’t sure that she would be come a “lifer.” “Lifers” is a term I use for the lovely ladies who make my classes a regular part of their lives. In walks this lovely girl with a friend for support. She was a plus -sized beauty covered from neck to toe. Long sleeve shirt. long skirt and long leggings underneath. She was nervous (evident in her giggles throughout the class) and on the more conservative side. Upon asking her why she wanted to try the class, she informed me that she had just broken up with her boyfriend and was looking to try something new. She recently confessed that her impression when she first walked into my class was that she that she felt like she “walked into a porn”. That says a lot about her state of mind then, lol. She was uber shy and was easily embarrassed when her fellow students would direct their attention to her while dancing and god forbid you came her way, she would blush like a schoolgirl. She was 26 years old and had never in her life gone lingerie shopping. We remedied that with a group field trip to Frederick’s of Hollywood! Guess who came out with a couple of bags of goodies ;) Since then Bella Rose (sans her friend) has transformed into a completely different person. She comes 3 times a week and is dedicated. She reaches new levels in each class. The once self-proclaimed non-emotional one now tells stories, expresses herself loudly and boldly through dance. Mind you she does not have a lick of dance experience. She now climbs, inverts, and powers out her pole tricks. She does all our themed classes, goes out of her comfort zone by shedding clothes (we still can’t believe it) and even assists me by helping my new students. She has become fierce, confident, and adventurous. She has shed the pounds. Did I say she is now marrying the man she was broken up with when she started class? I could go on forever about how amazing she is but this won’t be the last post on her. She has too many break throughs to have just one post dedicated to her. She inspires my students and I so much and I am so very proud of her.

Welcome to the Goddesses Empowered blog!
Hi, I'm Christina and I own Flying Curves Dance Studio located in Northridge, CA. I wanted to write this blog when I first opened the studio and it ended up falling by the wayside but no more. There are just too many stories to tell! I started Flying Curves Dance Studio a year and a half ago out of my home. I was a reality tv producer and had to quit teaching pole dancing ( I trained at a top studio and taught as I was producing) some years ago due to schedule conflicts. After a tragic incident changed my life and left me devastated, I took a look at my priorities and decided to leave the business temporarily to do something that was more fulfilling and rewarding. Guiding and helping women become the best versions of themselves through pole dancing. So many beautiful transformations have taken place in this studio that I felt it necessary to share their stories here. For now, I just wanted to introduce myself and give you the background on this blog. Whether you are a pole dancer or not, these women's stories are sure to touch and inspire you. Please follow for weekly stories starting this week! Thank you!
