Modern au Shanksace where Ace is a single parent with five year old Luffy. He's only 20 something years old and is in desperate need of money because he wants to give Luffy a good life. He looks for a lot of jobs, but nothing that has good pay, allows him to spend time with Luffy, and the other things have bad pay that's not enough. While looking for jobs, he meets some shady people, and that's how he gets into prostitution. He spends the whole day with Luffy and works the nights. The pay is really good and most of his clients aren't troublesome.

Shanks here is a depressed and lonely businessman who spends his days working and nights drinking. He also sleeps around. A lot. One night, he goes out with his some business partners and meets Ace in a club. Shanks usually isn't one to pay for sex but Ace is irresistible, and whatever brief conversation they have leaves him wanting more.

They have sex and Shanks becomes obsessed.

He keeps coming back to Ace and soon becomes his regular customer. Ace likes Shanks. He is sweet, charming, and good in bed. Ace enjoys his time with Shanks, and it doesn’t hurt that Shanks pays well. He finds himself waiting for Shanks every day. Everything's going well until one day Shanks has to go on an unexpected business trip, and he can't visit Ace for a month.

They both miss each other terribly, and Ace thinks maybe Shanks got bored and isn't gonna come anymore. But then a month later, Shanks does, and Ace is elated. That's when Shanks makes Ace an offer. He asks Ace if he wants to form a contractual relationship where Ace is ONLY with Shanks and Shanks pays for his time. Sugar baby, basically.

Ace is shocked and confused. He doesn’t know what to say, and Shanks says he can take his time to think about it. Later, Ace does think about it, and he knows that it might be a good opportunity for both him and Luffy. But he's also scared of being too dependent on Shanks because what if he gets bored and decides to end things suddenly. What will Ace do then?

Ace agrees to Shanks' deal but on the condition that he'll get a day job. He also tells Shanks about Ace and asks if he really wants someone with a kid. Shanks is more than okay and even asks to meet Luffy. Ace knows Luffy might have to meet Shanks later, so it's better to just get over with it.

Shanks takes Ace and Luffy to lunch, and Luffy LOVES Shanks. The feeling is clearly mutual because Shanks immediately dotes on Luffy. This is what pushes Ace to completely agree and seal the deal.

Things are great at first. Ace makes way more than he did with his earlier job, and he and Luffy can move into a better place. Shanks buys him and Luffy clothes, shoes, and food and then takes them out as well. All Ace has to do is be a pretty arm candy for Shanks at parties and then get fucked after that.

Everything is fine until he catches feelings.

Ace swallowed, staring back at Shanks with his last sip. The man’s lips quirked. They were red with drink, and Ace was abruptly aware that Shanks had the same taste on his tongue in that instant. He wondered if the flavor would be different coming from his mouth, as opposed to the glass—if it might be more intoxicating. It had to be, served with Shanks’ hand trailing down his spine, or—or his hips between Ace’s thighs— Shanks inclined his head, silky bangs falling into keen eyes.

something I really love abt ur ace fics specifically is the smut-emotional-catharsis 😭 for a character w so much emotional issues there’s surprisingly a lack of focus on it in most fics I read involving ace and it makes me sad! esp when it’s so sexy 😞 Coming across your writing was a dream come true for me fr

Yeah, I totally agree! Ace is often written as confident without any of uncertainty beneath the surface which on the one hand can be very enjoyable, but on the other hand, it doesn't touch what I really like about his character. I think the best written Aces are those who are confident and somewhat charming, but are brash in ways that show the insecurity beneath.

have I ever thrown my 2 cents in on the ASL sun/moon aesthetic? i think:

Luffy=day

Sabo=night, and

Ace=sunrise/sunset

Like Luffy is easy, all unconcealed, uncompromising joy

Sabo operates in darkness but with parallel purpose and conviction to Luffy

And Ace is more about transition, and letting yourself be changed through connection

Shanks going blonde as he ages!!!

That first hair sometime in his fifties. Beck notices first as with most things.

They are talking about something on the deck of the ship, relaxing as the fight for the one piece has long gone. This is their retirement where they hang around to make sure things are safe on the sea, but its mostly adventure and shenanigans.

Beck tilts his head as he watches Shanks gesture with his good arm, excited about something or other.

He shifts the cigarette in his lips, reaching out across the gap to take that long strand of hair between his long fingers.

Shanks stops mid word, blinking as Beck doesn't usually just reach out without some warning in the form of a teasing word.

"Hmm?" Shanks tries to look down but at the angle they are sitting he can't see whats so special about his hair. Beck is so focused on it. "What is it?"

"You're going gray." He chuckles. "About time, never thought you'd catch up with me" Beck having gone gray in his early thirties.

"Eh?" Shanks jumps to his feet. "No way" He leans over the railing. The ocean is still enough and their small boat low enough to the water that he can see his reflection. "Shit, you're right" he wraps the disclored strand that was hiding between waves of red. "Its not even red, irs blonde" He slumps. "Im going to look like old man, this is shit" Shanks grumbles. "Or Shams, with his dumb braid"

Beck wraps his arms around his captain, his lover. "You'll pull it off better then either of them" He leaves a soft kiss on Shanks' cheek just under the scar.

"Yeah?" Shanks turns around to face him, the both adjust until his back is pressed into the railing "You into this, the gray old fox?"

"Wouldn't call you gray or old, Shanks" Another kiss, this time on the lips "And I can learn to be into blondes" Beck laughs low, a deep rumble in his chest.

"Oh can you?" Shanks returns the kiss with his own soft laugh.

As his own hand trailed down his stomach, Ace turned over, and retreated to the most secluded, private corner of his thoughts.
