The bartender scoffed. "That's what he asked me to say but I figured I'd do him an actual favour and give you a proper reason not to. He's gone clean. Works for Nova now. Apparently he single-handedly saved Xandar and blasted that Ronan feller with an Infinity Rock." The reptile shrugged with all his arms. "Can't tell you the truth of that, but I can tell you he's not worth trying to take on the whole damn Corps for." He sighed and held out a holo of a younger reptiloid that looked very much like him, wearing a bright pink bow and squeezing what looked like a life-sized Rocket plushie but closer inspection revealed to in fact be a very pissed-off looking Rocket instead. "Plus my little one thinks he's cute."

"Is that from today?"

The barman grunted. "He wanted a favour so I asked for one in return."

For the record, Rocket and Groot aren't going as each other, but it's close enough for them to argue about.

Technically doing the prompts out of order but thats only coz the others are stuck mid-upload. A rather silly take for "Candy" I had far, faaaar too much fun with XD

I know Blackjack is the one I gave a gum obsession to in-fic, but the CRONCH! bit was the first thing I drew and too good to cut/change.

And when all is said and done I need to find a way to put Batch 89 on a sugar planet with cotton candy clouds and all the sweets you can eat... And stick Rocket to a piece of gum.

I like to think that deep down Rocket had his suspicions about Sire- its not a coincidence that he happened to have all the pieces he needed to replicate a key. I think he rationalised it to himself and was sorta living in denial- but he's also too smart to not notice there's something "off" about Sire. Like when Sire grabs him by his head and squeezes. Ditto for Lylla who really didn't take too much convincing to go along with the escape plan. I feel Floor and Teefs could have probably discerned it given a biiiit more time. And like- Sire incinerated a turtle in front of Rocket- I definetly think that would have given a kid nightmares lol. And that goes without bringing up Theel who's contempt is about as unsubtle as a brick wall. Honestly I feel like the whole reason they believed the whole New World stuff was because they wanted to believe it. They wanted there to be a reason and a meaning for all the pain, and they rationslised it as being because of love.

Very dark, gut wrenching stuff but it makes for really compelling writing x3

Ya know... you might be right about that actually. I sorta pictured it as yellow when I wrote the clothes line- but the Bigby/Zafersly prison is also meant to be one of his first- and probably the first uniform he would have worn for an extended period of time so.. lets just say my brain wasnt adding up the writing correctly and green is perfect XD

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this part since I first read it, it's so sad but it fits really well with Rocket's backstory. Clothes are like a symbol of civilized society, with Rocket’s first clothes being a prison uniform it’s kind of like saying “You can be a part of our society, but we don’t really want you here.” It marks him as undesirable and outcasted, someone on the lowest rung of the ladder. He’s already been told he doesn’t belong in a perfect world, and now it seems like he can’t even belong to an imperfect one either. It would only serve to reinforce in his mind all those awful, terrible things the HE said to him. It hurts me to think of poor little Rocket just trying to fit in, perhaps not fully understanding all the social conventions that come with clothes, and people only look down at him because all he’s got is an ill-fitting prison jumpsuit. 

It also more obviously represents his future of criminality. I imagine in the beginning he only stole out of necessity, since the outside world was completely new to him and he was just trying to survive, but it eventually evolved into truly criminal behavior because he never really had any other option. He did what he had to do to get by in a world that treated him cruelly, it’s no wonder he became so embittered and cynical. 😢

I wouldn't even say he stole out of necessity- noone ever told him stealing was wrong!!! Even when hes a little kid in Sire's arms and he gets sticky fingers for a piece he hides in his prosthetics I don't think he knew he was doing anything wrong. He's just a kid who didn't know any better.

Your analysis is spot on but I'd like to add- the excerpt comes as part of a scene where he's giving his Batchmates clothes (and the fit-in line was mostly set-up for Floor putting pants on her antennae lol) and the ones he gives them are all brand-new, modeled after the ones he wears now as one of Xandar's heroes and a respected and beloved member of Xandarian society and made as close to their measurements as he can get- because they mean the world to him and he wants them to have better experiences than the ones he had.

Im gonna go through his whole Oliver Twist era at some point eventually, I have a lot of headcanons- and as much as I like little Rocky it's fun to Break The Cutie.

And I haven't even started talking about the art yet- oh boy! Green isnt actually the colour I envisioned but I like it because it's his OG comic colour. You drew him excellently- he looks very small and scared and vulnerable. I particularly like the lighting on his face- hes just been tossed into a too-big cell and all the light left is flitting in through the bars of the door while he's left wondering what he even did wrong.

I like to think it was Lylla. She would make cozy sweaters for all her little siblings (even the ones bigger than her lol). Alternatively it was Floor- something something spider bunny and weaving- but also now that I think about it I feel like this is something they'd all do together.

Didn't know who to draw with Rocket, but ya know I figures there's plenty of characters with Best Friends in the Guardians and I've wanted to draw Floor and Blackjack together for a while.

The insane lengths Rocket will go to to save his friends from their creator's clutches when they return to his life in the wake of Xandar. It would be a hell of a lot easier if they frickin' remembered him. And a hell of a lot easier if his new friends didn't keep getting in the way.

One of the prompt options was 'Sun' and this is technically a redraw of something I drew ages ago after first watching GotG 3 so everyone will forgive me for being a tad overzealous lol.

But yeah I have a lot of thoughts about young Rocket- here he is seeing his first sunrise. Just the painful contrast of the sky being so beutiful and Rocket being so utterly and completely alone. I'll likely colour it later and such- wanted to stay on-theme for Inktober.

Alright lets see- it's 5am and I don't have access to my LIST and some of this is less headcanon more just me analysing the films but off the top of my head: The first item of clothing Rocket wore was a Prison Uniform. He only started wearing clothes because he wanted to fit in with the Interplanetary Community. He was not particularly successful in this regards.

(Less headcanon and more implied but I find it amusing regardless) Thanos cut Nebula's hair because Gamora used it to beat her once.

It took Rocket FLARKING FOREVER to understand the original Groot.

The Secret Ingredient is Love- the only reason Rocket could invent stuff- ie have creativity in a way the HE could appreciate (I believe he says True Invention in-film) was because he had someone to invent for (in this case, his friends)- this was also how/why he figured out there was a problem with the filtration. He loved Sire and just wanted to help.

Since I hate the HE... Post Vol 3 the HE got himself killed (or at least seriously beaten up) in some embarassing and or ridiculous and stupid (but most importantly funny) way while trying to escape. He did not have Rocket's knack for it. <3

Kylosians celebrate birthdays by going on death-defying adventures. Drax drags his friends on these quests while Quill prepares a more traditional surprise party kind of deal for when they inevitably return.

Groot has some of Old Groot's memories by virtue of their species' hive mindism. I also headcanon that there can only be One Flora Collosa Alive At A Time- but I know thats contradicted by comics and stuff lol.
