Cecelia and the Living Fossils
Shameless dinosaur necromancer story plug
I wanna play a Kenku ancestral barbarian who's ancestors they summon include ghost dinosaurs. Like the idea of summoning ghosts from your evolutionary lineage sounds so, so cool. Unfortunately I haven't found a dm who takes the idea seriously enough to let me play it. 😔
an actual understanding of prehistory has SO much worldbuilding potential for games of all kinds, STORIES of all kinds, and I'm sick of it just being "monsters that people can shoot and/or tame I guess"

I always feel sort of complicated about the idea of terraforming other planets because it's a totally untouched natural landscape. I don't think building and farming is bad, but I think it's worth considering that things just won't be the same there ever again. This may not be realistic but I wish we could protect and preserve planets like national parks, maybe building research outposts but largely leaving them intact. Definitely adds some extra considerations if there's unique microbial life there.
#once we start transforming a landscape we can't get that 'virgin' native state back#as a person who does a lot of prairie restoration stuff now i feel like this is worth thinking about#because as i'm ripping johnson grass out of the ground i'm thinking 'this will never be exactly like it was 10000 years ago'#we can get very close#but never quite the same

The Dunk Shrunk Event, 2023
In the wake of the recently released publication by Engelman, the famous Dunkleosteus got its size cut from the previously humongous 7 metres long beast of an Arthrodire have now downsized into 3 - 5 metres long Hydrogen bomb shaped fat fish. Here are my rendition of the new dunk, honestly, I am fond of the new form of this animal.
Figure 1. Size estimate and skull diagram of Dunkleosteus terrelli based on the specimen CMNH 5768, the most popular of its species
Figure 2. Size comparison of the older version of dunk (above) compared to the new and chonkier version of dunk (below).
On other platforms, such as twitter and instagram, I have been called a prophet, for the gift of premonition have been bestowed upon me in the year of 2021 because I created this round fellow, aptly named "Dunkball", it was a local sensation when it first conceived.

Figure 3. The Dunkball, look at this boi, bask in his glorious spherical presence, for he is a perfect specimen.
Also just for fun, I created these joke dunk forms for you fellow enthusiasts to enjoy:

If you're following Cecelia and the Living Fossils, Chapter 29 just dropped!
If you haven't had a chance to read, you can catch up on the website or on Wattpad.
I'm at like ⭐930-something reads⭐ on Wattpad right now, which is really exciting for me. I've never posted any writing online before, so the reads and comments are keeping me going. It's so fun and wild to get live feedback.
What should we do if we hit 1000 reads? It's a big number to me and I really want to celebrate and thank you guys, so I feel like something cool should happen.
Is there anything you'd want to see or do? Art? Polls? Q&A? Maybe I could make a silly personality quiz or something? I have a playlist for this story. I could show you that if you want?
#catlf#cecelia and the living fossils#p.s.#I've been struggling with my mailing list plugin on my website#so I haven't been able to send out chapters in a few weeks. It's driving me crazy. I'm going to try really hard to get that fixed this week

This is an illustration for an article I wrote about Acrocanthosaurus!
Acrocanthosaurus appears in Cecelia and the Living Fossils, a story about a teenage necromancer who brings dinosaurs back to life.
I'm thinking about maybe making a sticker pack out of this illustration series or something similar.

This is an illustration for an article I wrote about Deinonychus antirrhopus. You can read it here.
Coloration is based on a screech owl. I gave him speculative ear tufts because I think they're cute.
This raptor is from a weekly serial I'm writing called Cecelia and the Living Fossils. It's about a teenage necromancer who brings dinosaurs back to life.

⭐Heads up⭐
For my CatLF friends--I had an emergency happen at work this week. Everything turned out okay, but it was pretty exhausting and set me back on writing. I'm gonna go easy on myself and give you my best, so instead of a chapter I'm gonna post a Cecelia: Unearthed tomorrow with some new paleoart I'm really excited about.

I will say, worms are a lot more horrendous-looking when they're dead and their jaws are fully extended. This is also a picture of the belly of the worm, and honestly that's never really any bug's good side. On video, they're almost kinda soft-looking. I love the way they row their bristle-scales in rolling body waves to move through the water. You can skip to :37 if you just want to see the worm.
youtube
Also, some scale worms are rainbowy--like Peinaleopolynoe. They do have pretty serious chompers. You can see where this one had a few bites taken out of its armor by other scale worms.
x
Let's combine your two scary animals into one antarctic scale worm
Every part of this creature looks like it causes pain.

A super low-res symmetrical Deinonychus I never got around to finishing.
He's from chapter 21 of Cecelia and the Living Fossils. I like the idea of owl tufts on raptors.
