Blog 1 - Personal Biography
Hello, world! My name is Josue Quintana and today marks day one of my blogging journey. I was born in Oceanside, California where I spent the first four years of my life before moving to Wichita, Kansas, where I resided until moving here to Manhattan to attend Kansas State University. Once, during my sophomore year in high school, my programming teacher came up to me and asked me if I wanted to take part in a programming competition hosted by K-State. I was a little hesitant at first, but eventually I agreed to join my school's team for the beginner programming event. When I first arrived at K-State, for the competition, I was amazed at the sheer magnitude of the campus and of the people there. It may have been the fact that I had never experienced a college of that size, but I fell in love. My team ended up winning first that year and my mind had been set on K-State since.
Computer science is fun. I will always remember the first time I ever made a program run. I found it fascinating how I could make words that I typed appear on the screen like they were part of a professional made program (I had never really bothered to ponder on how programs were made in the first place). As the semester progressed, I found myself enjoying the challenges and puzzles brought by increasingly complex programs. Eventually, when it came down to sitting down and thinking about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I thought back to all the things I enjoyed doing and decided that I wanted to be a programmer.
I do have many interests outside of programming as well. I love basically all racket based sports. I played tennis for three years in my high school and ended up winning 2nd in the city tournament in no.2 singles my senior year. I also plan on playing on the intramural table tennis for K-State and I play badminton and racquetball recreationally. I am also a pretty avid gamer and played World of Warcraft for six years and console fps such as Halo, and Call of Duty for about as long. I have also recently started picking up chess as a form of recreation.
This is all just a basic background on my interest and past. What you should know is that when I find enjoyment in something, I do amazing work. I love a challenge and am eager to learn and explore new things. I am a strong leader and worker and hope to accomplish great things here at K-State.
