It's so important to me that Jonathan is so soft in the Superman movie. Jonathan is there asking Lois with worried eyes if their boy is going to be okay. Jonathan is there tearily telling Clark he's proud of him. Jonathan is there recognizing how upset Clark is and coaxing him to talk about it. Jonathan loudly loves his son. There is no guessing game, no question, no room for uncertainty.

And Clark reflects that every day as Superman.

look I've harped on this before but I think it's worth doing again. if you put "cis men dni" you are forcing trans men to out themselves to interact with you and that's shitty. you're also making eggs and closeted transfems feel worse about themselves and making the distance between womanhood/femininity and themselves feel that much wider and unassailable. (source: me) you're ALSO making recently out/early stages of transition/just very insecure trans women feel like shit, and probably desperately consider what the difference is between themselves and men, and they likely won't interact with you either. (source: me again) also yk what I get it kind of if ur making sapphic posts or whatever but sometimes it just isn't necessary. sometimes it genuinely is just shitty to cis men too and it promotes a weird ass culture of bioessentialism. just. you're showing a message. and it's maybe not the one you think you are, or the one you want.

I don't know exactly how to articulate this but... if you repeatedly show historical fiction women rejecting traditionally female skills/duties and doing swords instead, because swords is obviously the Most Important Thing, you are kind of implying that all the work that has been traditionally done by female hands for millennia was useless all along and not, you know, keeping civilization going. Because it's usually rejected not as a personal preference but as This Is The Important Stuff (male work) and That is The Dumb Useless Stuff (women's work) and that kind of bothers me. The message was supposed to be Vital But Underpaid and Underappreciated, not women's work is insignificant so let's all go do swords.

really enamored with an offhand remark i heard where folk horror was described as "pragmatic". i love that. horror that doesnt have time to waste on "but ghosts arent real! but monsters cant exist! what is happening! how can this be!". horror where you hear a howl in the distance and go to gather the wolfsbane and silver because six inch fangs ripping into your neck dont care if youre a believer or not. horror where the impossible nightmare is real because its here and, as is often the case in folk horror, it has been here much longer than you.
