Hi.
I’m your kid’s teacher, and I would take a bullet for your child. But I wish you wouldn’t ask me to.
.
We had an intruder drill today.
.
I have shepherded children through a lot of intruder drills. I have also, on one memorable occasion, shepherded children through a non-drill. When I was a children’s librarian in a rough suburb, armed men got into a fight in the alley behind our building. We ushered all of the kids - most of whom were unattended - into the basement while we waited for the police.
During intruder drills, some children - from five-year-olds all the way to high school kids - get visibly upset. At one school, the intruder drill included administrators running down the hallways, screaming and banging on lockers to simulate the “real thing.” Kids cry. Kindergartners wet themselves. Teenagers laugh, nudging each other, even as the blood drains from their faces.
Other children handle intruder drills matter-of-factly. “Would the guy be able to shoot us through the door?” they ask, the same way they’d ask a question about their math homework. In some ways, this is worse than the kids who cry. To be so young and so accustomed to fear that these drills seem routine.
And then there are the teachers. There is no way, huddling in a corner with your students, ducking out of view of the windows and doors, to avoid thinking about what happens when it’s not a drill.
.
People really hate teachers. I don’t take it personally. It actually makes a lot of sense: what other group of professionals do we know so well? How many doctors have you had? How many plumbers? How many secretaries?
Over the course of my public school education, I had at least fifty teachers for at least a year each. So of course some of them were bad. You take fifty people from any profession, and a couple of them are going to be terrible at their job.
So I had a couple of teachers who were terrible, and a few teachers who were amazing, inspirational figures - the kinds of teachers they make movies about.
And then I had a lot of teachers who did a good job. They came to school every day and worked hard. They’d planned our lessons and they graded our papers. I learned what I was supposed to, more or less, even if it wasn’t the most incredible learning experience of my life.
Most teachers fall into that category. I’m sure I do.
Looking at it from the other side, though, I see something that I didn’t know when I was a kid.
Those workhorse teachers who tried, who failed sometimes and sometimes succeeded, who showed up every day and did their jobs: those teachers loved us.
.
Of course you can never know what you’ll do in the event. That’s what they always say. In the event of an intruder, a fire, a tornado.
You can never know until you know.
But part of what’s so terrifying, so upsetting about an intruder drill as a teacher, is that on some level you do know. You don’t aspire to martyrdom; you’ve never wanted to be a hero. You go home every night to a family that loves you, and you intend to spend the next fifty years with them. You will do everything in your power to hide yourself in that office along with your kids.
But if you can’t.
If you can’t.
.
When people tell me about why they oppose gun control, I can’t hear it anymore.
I’m from a part of the country where everybody has guns. I used to be really moderate about this stuff, and I am not anymore.
I can’t be.
Every day, I go to work in a building that contains hundreds of children. Every single one of those kids, including every kid that makes me crazy, is a joy and a blessing. They make their parents’ lives meaningful. They make my life meaningful. They are the reason I go to work in the morning, and the reason I worry and plan when I come home.
Parents usually know a handful of kids who are the most wonderful creatures on the planet. I know a couple thousand. It is an incredible privilege, and it is also terrifying. The world is big and scary, and I love so many small people who must go out into it.
So when adults tell me, “I have the right to own a gun”, all I can hear is: “My right to own a gun outweighs your students’ right to be alive.” All I can hear is: “My right to own a gun is more important than kindergarteners feeling safe at school.” All I can hear is: “Mine. Mine. Mine.”
.
When you are sitting there hiding in the corner of your classroom, you know.
The alternative would be unthinkable.
.
We live in a country where children are acceptable casualties. Every time someone tells me about the second amendment I want to give them a history lesson. I also want to ask them: in what universe is your right to walk into a Wal-Mart to buy a gun more important than the lives of hundreds of children shot dead in their schools?
Parents send their kids to school every day with this shadow. Teachers live with the shadow. We work alongside it. We plan for it. In the event.
In the event, parents know that their children’s teachers will do everything in their power to keep them safe. We plan for it.
And when those plans don’t work, teachers die protecting their students.
We love your children. That’s why we’re here. Some of us love the subject we teach, too, and that’s important, but all of us love your kids.
The alternative would be unthinkable.
.
When you are waiting, waiting, waiting for the voice to come on over the PA, telling you that the drill is over, you look at the apprehensive faces around you. You didn’t grow up like this. You never once hid with your teacher in a corner, wondering if a gunman was just around the corner. It is astonishing to you that anyone tolerates this.
And the kids are nervous, but they are all looking to you. You’re their teacher.
They know what you didn’t know, back when you were a kid, back before Columbine. They know that you love them. They know you will keep them safe.
You’re their teacher.
.
If you are a parent who thinks it’s totally reasonable for civilians to have a house full of deadly weapons, and who accepts the blood of innocent people in exchange for that right, it doesn’t change anything for me. I will love your kid. I will treat you, and your child, the same way I treat everyone else: with all of the respect and the care that is in me.
In the event, I will do everything in my power to keep your child safe.
I just want you to know what you are asking me to do.

Idalia – Behold of the sun
“I saved every letter you wrote to me. From the moment I read them, I knew you were mine…” If it had been up to Lin and Lin alone, she hadn’t been in need to sing any more. He would have signed her up as Eliza the moment she hit the first note. She was just flawless. Not only her voice but also her appearance matched Eliza perfectly. Her hair was of the deepest, darkest brown and her skin had the most perfect sun kissed olive complexion. If he should have guessed, he would have said that she was from the south, maybe Italy or Greece.

We know the way (Lin x reader)
Summary: Lin and reader meet during a screening of Beauty and the Beast.
Word Count: 1,897
A/N: Welcome to my second Lin fiction. Hope somebody reads and likes it. Please let me know what you think!
You slightly turned your head, when you heard the sniffling from the seat next to you. You hadn’t paid much attention to who was sitting next to you, as he had slipped into his seat last minute, just when the film was about to start. Now you observed him from the corner of your eye. He was young, probably early thirties and handsome. And he was sniffling and seemed desperately trying to keep his tears at bay. As you yourself had already shed a tear or two, you had the tissues at hand and now handed one to him. You received a grateful look from him, before you both turned back to the film.
It was about an hour later, when the lights came back on, that you heard him talking to you. “Thanks for coming to my rescue. I am a hopeless case when it comes to Disney. And I forgot to bring my own tissues.” You smiled at him. “Never mind. Cried myself so it’s fine.” You offered him your hand. “Hi, I am y/n.” “Lin, pleased to meet you!” How did you like the film?” “It was beautiful. Just magical. I love Disney films. I actually wanted to see Moana. A friend told me that the music of that one is really good, but it wasn’t screened until later so I decided to see Beauty and the Beast first.” The smile you received from him was really damn cute.” “So you are seeing it now?” “Yeah, wanna join me?” “Sure, why not? Let’s get tickets.” You joined Lin in the queue to get your tickets. When he insisted to invite you, you offered to get snacks and drinks for the two of you. And so it was that you shortly after crying to the Beauty and the Beast, cried to Moana’s story.
When the film was finished, you turned to Lin in the seat next to you. “Seeing that we both had our share of crying for today ad they won’t play another Disney film, you’d like to join me for dinner?” You looked at him. You hadn’t expected to go for dinner, and even more not with a stranger, but why not? You had enjoyed his silent company during the films, you both loved Disney so at least you would have something to talk about during dinner. “Sure, why not? Got an idea where to go to?” Lin nodded and together you made your way out of the cinema.
“So did you enjoy the film and the music?”, Lin enquired as soon as you sat down at an nearby Italian place you had decided to go to. “Absolutely! It’s a beautiful story and such wonderful songs.” “Which one’s your favourite?” You thought about that for a moment. “They are all beautiful and magical but I think I liked “We know the way” best.” Lin smiled and nodded. “That was one of my favourites to write too.” You gaped at him. “Writing, like in you writing that songs?” He grinned sheepishly and nodded. “Yeah you got me. I’ve written the music for Moana.” You were up for an Oscar? My friend said the writer was!” He nodded again while you put your face in your hands. “Oh gosh, I made you see the film you wrote the music for. You must think I am totally dense.” “No! Absolutely not. It’s refreshing. I love to see people enjoy a good Disney film. And that you liked my song was just the icing on the cake.” You inhaled deeply. “Ok. So what else have you written? What should I know about so that I don’t make fun of myself when talking to you?” Lin laughed. “Don’t worry about it. Just two other things really. It was for Broadway. Maybe you have heard of In the Heights or Hamilton?” “You’ve written Hamilton?” Lin nodded. “Yup, that’s me.” “My god, I must have lived under a rock not to recognize you. You have been all over the news lately.” He grinned again. “I was, but it feels great that I can still go out without being recognized.” “It must be tiresome to be a person of every ones interest.” Lin nodded. “It sure is on some day but I love the fans and their dedication to Hamilton. I’ve always wanted people to love it, so that makes me happy, even if I lose some of my privacy.” You nodded. “One can see that it makes you happy. You come alive, when speaking about it.” You smiled at him. He really was cute when he was animated and alive like he was now talking about his work. He began talking about the story, how it came alive and spoke about his cast mates like you knew every one of them. And you felt like you did just that. With how he introduced them to you, it seemed like you really know all of them. While all of this you had dinner, opened a bottle of wine and just enjoyed each other’s company. “You should come along, meet everyone and see the show if you like.” You were baffled. You barely knew each other and he invited you to meet his friends and see his sold-out Broadway hit? “You sure? You barely know me. For all you know, I could be a crazy fan.” Lin nodded. “Yeah, I am sure. I trust my instincts and…I like you.” The last words were mumbled and he looked down at his empty plate. You smiled to yourself. He was just too cute for his own good. “I like you too and I would love to come to the theatre and meet everyone.”
It was some days later that you found yourself in front of the Richard Rodgers theatres stage door. Lin had told you to meet him here but he had just texted that he would be five minutes late. So you took your time and looked at your surroundings. You were in the middle of theatre district near Times Square and surrounded by theatres. When you had moved to New York you used to come to Manhattan often. Strolling through the Central Park and visiting all the touristy spots. Now that you lived here for ten years, you mainly stayed in the Bronx in the neighbourhood that you lived and worked in. “Hi, Hi, Hi! So sorry I am late but I’ve brought coffee and lunch.” You turned to see Lin hurry towards you with a take away bag in one and a cup holder in the other hand. “Don’t worry. I’ve just arrived some minutes ago and enjoyed the atmosphere.” “Ok, then lets head inside, enjoy our food and afterwards I will make you meet each and every one working in this theatre." You smiled and followed Lin into the theatre. He led the way to his dressing room while greeting the few people you met along the way. His room was much cosier than you had imagined it. Next to his costumes and make-up waiting for later, there was a large couch, as large as the room allowed, which Lin now occupied. He began to spread he food on the table while you were still looking around. “Come, sit. I’ve got Falafel, Hummus, Tabbouleh and everything else you heart desires. We should enjoy our food as long as we can. It’s not long before every one will come in and they are known for stealing food.” You laughed and flopped down beside Lin. “Tuck in!” He handed you a fork and both of you began to eat your lunch. As Lin had predicted, it wasn’t long before a knock sounded at Lin’s door and a man with crazy hair popped into the room. “Man! What do I smell?” Lin laughed and gestured to the man. “See! I told you. As soon as they are in, they come for my food. You’d think we don’t pay them and they have to starve.” You laughed along with Lin. “Man, we are your manners? Introduce me to the lovely lady!” Lin laughed again. “Y/N, this is Daveed, he is playing Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson.” You smiled at Daveed who still had an eye on your food. “Pleasure to meet you. If you are hungry please take something, I’m stuffed.” He grinned. “Lin, wherever you found her, she is a goddess. We should keep her.” Lin buried his head in his hands. “Great impression you made. Coming in and stealing her food. I wonder why she is not yet on the run.” You loved the friendly banter between them. Soon enough more and more people filled into the room. Some brought their own food but others stole from you, Lin or the other that brought something. You felt totally welcome among all the actors who included you in their friendly pre-rehearsal get-together as if you had always been there. In the end it was Alex or Lac as the group called him, who made everyone get up and get going. Rehearsals were planned and Lin tagged you along to watch. While everyone took their places, Lac seated you on the edge of the stage so that you could watch everything.
You were just blown away. The rehearsals had already given you an idea that you were seeing something truly great but the actual show with costumes and all was just amazing. The power, their voices. It was a work of genius. You couldn’t believe your luck to be here, be friends with Lin and meet all the amazing people who just took their bows. You frenetically cheered to all off them and whistled when Lin bowed. After the curtain came down, you made your way to the door leading backstage, were you would meet with everyone again. Pippa was the first to meet you backstage. “You were amazing.” The young actress smiled at you. “Thank you. If you are looking for Lin, I think he is still on stage.” You thanked her and with directions you made your way to stage, complementing everyone you met, on the great show. When you arrived on stage, Lin was standing in the middle of the stage, looking like he was deeply in though. Slowly you walked up to him. When you were only three steps away, he looked up and smiled at you. “Did you enjoy the show?” “Absolutely, you were amazing. Lin, you created the work of genius.” “Coming from you that means a lot.” He came a step closer and hugged you. When you separated again, he still smiled at you. “Y/N it feels like we have known each other for years.” He lifted his hand and caressed your cheek. For you it felt like sparks were coming from where he touched you. It was just a moment before he leaned forward and touched your lips with his. The kiss felt like magic to you and the firework started in your belly. When you both were out of air, you pulled apart and looked deep into each other’s eyes. “Would you come on a date with me? Cinema, we sitting in the last row, watching something romantic and maybe share a kiss or two?” You laughed at him. “Sounds like a plan if we can both keep our tears at bay.” He joined in on your laugh and then pulled you in for another kiss.

Alarice, the Noble Queen
TITLE: Alarice, the Noble Queen
CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: One shot
AUTHOR: countessofkrolock
ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine being the young queen of Sakaar and meeting Loki. You give your hospitality, making him think you are the princess. When he asks to meet the king and queen you simply smile and offer your hand. “I am queen y/n of Sakaar.” He’s shocked and greets you as a gentleman should, apologizing for mistaking you.
NOTES/WARNINGS: This is basically the first thing I have written in ages. I hope I made no big errors as I have been out of all fandoms for a while. Christy-winchester, this is for you. Thank you for bringing back my inspiration with this imagine! The name Alarice was brought to me by my friend Google and is a royal name which means the noble, regal ruler.
It was when Loki first arrived on Sakaar that he met her. Her sight was one a man won’t forget easily. Her long flowing dark brown hair was braided in parts so that her features were free for his view to roam over. Delicately build as well in frame as in facial features, her sparkling blue eyes and cheery red lips were what had caught Loki’s attention from the very first moment. When her eyes finally caught his, she bowed her head slightly. “Your royal highness, a warm welcome to Sakaar.” He bowed his head as well. “It’s my pleasure. Thank you for welcoming me here.” His eyes again began to travel up and down her frame. The beautiful dark blue dress, which clung to her frame, was embroidered with sparkling gem stones, which led him to assume that she belonged to the royal family of Sakaar. She could as well be a princess as far as he was concerned. Maybe a sister or even a daughter to the new Queen of Sakaar? He wasn’t given much information about the new queen when his father chose him to make this courtesy visit. Their families never had been close, however his father seemed eager to change this and therefor sent him here. Her voice brought Loki back from his thoughts. “May I lead our way to the dining hall? A small lunch was arranged upon your arrival. Afterwards you will be led to your room to prepare yourself for the reception this evening.” Loki bowed slightly, before offering her his arm. “Please lead the way.” She lightly put her hand on his arm before starting to move.

However, it wasn’t only up to him whom they would cast. But he knew that she had to end up in the cast, no matter if as Eliza or in the ensemble, as long as his name was Lin-Manuel Miranda she would be cast. “Thank you.” Lin was stunned when the music stopped and Tommy thanked her. Through his musings he had missed most of her song. He leaned over to Tommy who officially was in charge of the casting here in Berlin. “Let’s hear another thing from her.” “You like her?” “Yeah, I guess.” Tommy nodded and returned his focus to the young woman in front of them. “Would you mind singing something else?” She smiled at them and handed Lac, who was at the piano another set of sheet music. Lin’s stomach was in knots as soon as he saw her smile. What a beautiful smile she had. Tommy gave him a painful nudge in the rips and whispered: “You wanted another song, so listen and not just stare into space.” Lin once again focused and listened to her. Her second song was Halo from Beyoncé which she sung like she was on fire. When she finished, he couldn’t hold back himself and jumped up, which caused his chair to crashed to the ground, and applaud her. While he got funny looks from Tommy, Lac and probably everyone else in the room, he couldn’t care less. His focus was on her. She blushed slightly and gave a little bow into Lin’s direction. When Lin finally stopped his applause Tommy thanked her again and she left the room. Lin wanted to follow her, but was pulled back by Tommy who had grabbed him by the collar of his favorite grey sweater. “What the hell was that?” Lin stared at Tommy as he didn’t understand the fuss. “I liked her performance!” “Don’t ya say! Never would have guessed that.” Lin glared at Lac who had strolled over to them. “We are here to cast a HamFam for Germany and not fangirl over the ones auditioning. At least not as long as we haven’t anyone signed up. I thought you knew that.” “I KNOW that! But didn’t you hear her? I think she might be the perfect Eliza! Her voice is flawless and she got the looks for god’s sake!” Tommy huffed but didn’t say another thing. Everyone including Lin got back to their seats for the auditions to continue.
It was several hours later when they had heard everyone for the day, that Lin was sitting down on the floor of the room with Lac, Tommy and Ralph, the German casting director, and pictures were spread in front of them. The wanted to narrow down the choices for the Schuyler sisters, so that they could do a second set of auditions the next morning. “Okay, let’s put together this three ones and then two other sets of sisters to hear. I think we have included everyone’s favorites and I am positive that we will find out who will be Angelica, Eliza and Peggy tomorrow.” Everyone nodded to Tommy’s words and got up to leave. Lin also was satisfied. His favorite Eliza, her name was y/n as he now knew, was in the trio of the most promising actresses they had chosen for tomorrow.
The next morning started bright and early and in Lin’s case with a trip to the coffee shop he had discovered near his hotel. He had been up well into the night writing. Y/n had inspired him. He had written fragments for at least two songs. Even if they were not completed yet and neither he knew for what he had written them, he knew the he wanted her to sing them. He was still deep in his thoughts when he entered the shop. The young woman, who was just on her way to leave the shop and focused on her phone, therefor didn’t catch his attention until they crashed into each other and her coffee spilled over both of their shirts. “Oh shit, I am sorry…” Lin was lost of words when noticed exactly who he’d crushed into. It was y/n, the woman who had caused his thoughts to drift of. “Hi there! Sorry about this.” He gestured between their two ruined shirts. “Never mind, however you will need to explain why I am auditioning in a coffee stained shirt as I won’t have time to run home for a clean one.” “Oh shit! Now I am even sorrier.” He thought for a moment. “I have an idea. Do you trust me?” She smiled at him. “Sure!” “Ok, than lets go back to my hotel room, but first: let’s grab coffee!”
“That should work out!” Lin looked up from the sheet music he had written during the night. Y/n had returned from his bathroom in one of his clean white dress shirts. She had rolled up the sleeved to her elbows and buttoned it up to a decadent high. However he was still able to see her collarbone, which was highly distracting. “You think I can audition like this?” “Sure thing, but we should head out, otherwise we both will be late.” She nodded and began to gather her things. Lin had also changed into a clean shirt and now stuffed his sheet music into his bag before grabbing his keycard and coffee cup.
“Is that a new song you are working on?” Lin glanced up to Lac who was looking down on him, sitting on the floor. “Yeah, the idea struck me last night. Dunno were this is leading to but I will go with the flow.” Alex nodded and strolled away. They were on a short break in between auditions. Idalia and her group had been up first in the morning. The second group with a really promising Angelica had also finished their audition. Now only no more group was up for singing their song. Although Lin desperately wanted y/n to be Eliza, he knew the one in the second group had also been very good. But he was thinking positive: even if he was going to outnumbered in the selection of Eliza, y/n would at least be part of the cast as understudy. She was simple to good for them to let her go. “Can we start again?” Lin looked up to Ralph who had once more taken his place at the table. Lin sat up and put his things back into his backpack. “Sure, let’s find the Schuyler sisters!” Lin installed himself in his chair once again.
“I am happy to announce that we have found our Schuyler sisters.” Although Lin knew which three names would be called, he felt as nervous as the nine women looking at Tommy who was speaking. He tuned out while Angelica and Peggy were announced. He focused on y/n who seemed to be waiting patiently if her name was being called. “And now at last we are happy to announce that y/n y/ln will be our Eliza.” Although disappointed, all other girls applauded her. When finally her look fell upon Lin, he smiled proudly at her. He knew she would make it. While Tommy suggested to the other women that they might get a call for the understudy positions, Lin got up and personally complimented all Schuyler sisters on their good work. As last one he spoke to y/n. “I hope I did not just get the role because you spilled my coffee?” Lin laughed at this. “Nope, sorry. No such thing. You were just too good to not be part of this cast.” “Thank you. This has been my dream since I first listened to Hamilton. Your music is just magical.” Now it was Lin’s turn to blush. “That means a lot. Would you like to listen and maybe even sing something completely different that I have written?” “Sure thing! I’d absolutely love to.” “Meet me at the door in 5 and we will head to the piano store round the corner and maybe dinner afterwards?” Lin shyly smiled at Idalia and both gathered their things to leave. Together.

My very dear followers!
As you might (or might not) know I vary widely in my interests. If you could look upon my favorite posts on Tumblr your head might explode from the varity of things.
However what comes next is on the one hand still musical fandom so to speak. On the other hand I certainly know that not everyone will like it. After reading some really amazing Lin Manuel, Daveed Digs, Alex Lacamoire and other fanfictions, my muse finally came back. I used to write since some years (first NCIS, than Harry Potter, musical actor real person fictions and lately two Loki fics) however I had lost interest in writting for a while. Possibly because I had to put all my writing in my dissertation. Now that my MSc is nearly finished I have sat down today and wrote my first every fiction with Lin Manuel Miranda.
@secretschuylersister, @manuelmiranduh and @manuelmirandamn have inspired me so much for this with their writing so that I like to say THANK YOU before I am tipping down my hand written fiction and then post it for all who are interested.

wELL THEN I NEEDED THIS

Tbh I normally never comment on such things but as I really like what and more important how @manuelmiranduh writes, I feel the urge to do so. I know (and accept) that not everyone likes rpf. Thats totally ok. But its also ok to like and read it. And as @manuelmiranduh pointed out: Tumblrs search is living a life on its own. You ever know whats pops up in your search. I personally prefer not to read fanfictions about the characters from my favorite musicals/shows/books/whatever, because the stories are thought of by great authors and thats how I like them and do not want to read somebodys additions to that. End of it. But nevertheless they pop up when I am searching for fics on here when I am searching for something. If you are going crazy about tagging like this, I'd suggest you read elsewhere, where you can search more specified. And if you decide to read on Tumblr, let everyone do their thing and read just what you like. And scroll over what you do not like. We all do that. Thats my opinion, which I wont discuss with anyone. Hate messages in my inbox will be deleted, positivity and love will be spread ❤
PSA
Many Lin fans do not want to see your lin x reader (or any hamilcast x reader) posts in the lin manuel miranda tag. You can find everyone interested, and everyone interested can find you, with the lin x reader tag. Thanks for your consideration!

Have been terribly lazy and silent on herr lately! 🙈 But life goes on! This week alone I've been to London to see Willemijn Verkaiks first Wicked show and been to 'The One' show in Berlin. And on saturday we are seeing one of the many Luther shows going on at the moment!

I saw some productions I wish I could see back on stage with exactly that cast. From all of them, Sweeney Todd is number one. Its so sad that Theater Magdeburg isnt playing it anymore.

yes I do hate trump supporters. i don’t care who they are as individuals. once you put your support behind a disgusting sexist racist xenophobic homophobic oversized cheeto man with a $3 toupee you automatically are saying you do not care about minorities or the poor or women. you are automatically giving your vote to a man who will monumentally fuck up years of progression and work towards equality. you are as bad as he is. so yes. I hate all trump supporters.
