crowfather - "dopamine"
youtube
minneapolis has such a lush music culture; after all, it's the home of prince, lizzo, the replacements, and of course big bob dylan. it's also where craig finn sets a lot of his story songs for the hold steady since he's from there, despite the hold steady being a band from brooklyn. i digress.
and minneapolis is also home to crowfather, a hip-hop artist who has been coming up in the city's local scene over the past several years. his latest ep late nights & side quests dropped on 3/14/25, and it's a work tinged with his usual rich storytelling and incredible flow. but the new record also takes influence from the music of video games, anime, and prestige cable television. the six tracks on the record therefore all have a very epic feel, something much bigger than the already vast sum of its parts.
healing and transformation are all major themes in crowfather's work, and they are certainly present on "dopamine", a thundering track chronicling crowfather's search for positivity and happiness through the mess of life. the backing beat sounds like a spin on overworld music from sprawling rpgs like final fantasy, emphasizing the constant grind of battling for little bits of joy like experience points in order to level up.
the crisp beats and high reverb give this a very old-school rap feel, as in the stuff of the early 90s, where artists sampled direct from the turntable and served rhymes straight from the heart. not to say that those things don't happen in today's hip-hop, but there was something very special about that sound from decades ago, and i believe crowfather has found it on late nights & side quests. every track - from the swashbuckling "nostalgia" to the chilled-out "boss fight" - has something analog about it, a little more grit that feels natural. whether that's in the production or in crowfather's raw talent is hard to say, but i do like to think it's the latter.
(as an aside, as someone who grew up vibing to video game music and theme songs from anime, you know full well that this entire album was right up my alley)
"dopamine" is a great track as are all the songs of late nights & side quests, and you may stream them all now using the links below. thank you
stream "dopamine" on spotify or wherever you stream music stream no soap radio's latest and certifiable bangers playlist on spotify

Republicans deliberately use coded language to trick people to vote for them and radicalize their group. Many don't even realize they're radicalized or what they're saying is even racist. This is why they think the Left is "over reacting" because the either know they're using coded language and don't care, or they don't know anything at all.

The U.S. DOJ has published plans to execute undocumented immigrants.
This is how the U.S. genocide begins. Spread this to everyone. Protect your neighbors. We’re all citizens here!

The threat was loud and clear: Report your so-called “DEI” employees or else. What exactly “DEIA or similar ideologies” means is up in the air, but the message was out there. And so was the email address of the DEIA snitching hotline. Fake emails quickly started to roll in. ‘I don’t care, fuck these McCarthyite bastards,” one BlueSky user said, with an screenshot attached of an email to the hotline where he ironically reported Donald Trump and JD Vance for being “put in their positions solely because of their race and/or gender despite the fact that they are wholly unqualified for their jobs and, in some cases, have criminal records.” “Anyone have a script to fire off a billion e-mails an hour??” another user asked in the replies. “Anyone can email anything of any size even if it crashes the site,” one X user noted. The scope and effectiveness of this latest phase of Trump’s anti-DEI crusade remains to be seen.

I haven’t slept in three days.
I’ve been working around the clock to back up over a petabyte of research data and records and articles from the National Library of Medicine before it gets attacked by that elongated dipstick and his gestapo squad. Trying to get copies of every federal research program’s data before it gets destroyed in the crossfire. I hope to God that it won’t, but I have no confidence that it will be safe. Lots of copies keep stuff safe.
