Post-Mortem - Run, Chicken, RUN!!!
One thing I’d change about how I developed my prototype is to spend more time working on my game. Due to scheduling conflicts with work and other uni assessments, I was unable to work on Run, Chicken, RUN!!! As much as I wanted. This resulted in a very buggy, early version of the game. One thing I’d change about the design of my prototype is to customise the score and health bars. This would provide more life and character for the game and could appeal to more users. I’d also like to try out different powerups. I’d love to try out a sword mechanic, or a dash mechanic and i-frames.

Run, Chicken, RUN!!! - Playstesting
After playtesting the first version of my game, it gave me a lot to consider
Personally, I noticed:
Sometimes the score glitched out and made clearing the level impossible
The hitbox for the chicken was disjointed, and some hits felt unfair and he could "float" on some platforms
Jumping beneath the moving platform would make the chicken fly.
Besides this, I also acquired valuable feedback from a random playtester.

Overall, I hope this experience helps me in resolving bugs, implementing powerups, and making more enjoyable games and versions in the future!!!

Week 7 - Racer
During week 7, I attempted the racing tutorial.
During the tutorial, I discovered and further developed my skills in using variables, groups, camera adjustments and so much more!!!
What I learned from this tutorial has further developed my skills, and I'm feeling much more confident in my game design abilities!!!

Racing Game Elevator Pitch
Imagine a racing game where Rhythm Heaven meets Reckless Racing. Tempo Runner is a racing game in which a driver must utilise the power of music to get ahead in a race to the death!
An Arcade-Style, pixelated racing game cross rhythm game, the player will be assigned a genre of music. When the racer presses a button at the right time, they will be rewarded with a speed boost.
The primary mechanics will have the racer dodging and weaving the track using the A and D keys. When doing well in the rhythm section, the player will be able to take shortcuts and cut ahead of the other racers!
The setting of the levels will take place in a music studio, with speaker obstacles on the road, music notes moving in the background, and music-themes vehicles.
The target audience for my game includes teenagers with a broad style of music. Teens with interests in rock, pop, or even classical music are welcomed!

Speaker Obstacle
Tumblr media
Music powered vehicles, inspired by Samba de Amigo
Tumblr media
Rhythm bar for rhythm sections of the game.
Tumblr media
A and D based control scheme, for moving left and right.
Three unique selling points
Combines Rhythm Games with Racing Games
Fun music-based game which rewards excellent rhythm skills and shortcuts
Variety of music genres suitable for everyone with a broad music taste

Week 4 - Asteroids
During this week, I joined the workshop to further progress my skills in game development.
Tumblr media
I learned about lives and scores, and how to switch between scenes - for either victory or defeat conditions.
I also learned how to restart the game from the win/lose conditions.
Asteroids has given me a lot to think about in terms of my "Run Chicken, RUN!!!" game, and I'm excited to incorporate what I've learned so far!!!

Week 2 - Part 2
After some experimentation, I was able to understand the creation process for AI enemies, as well as understanding coding terms, like boolean values.
I was also able to implement a combat mechanic for defeating this enemy - Jumping on their heads.
This put into perspective the simplicity of "Run, Chicken, RUN!" and is making me debate a UNIQUE combat mechanic.
Instead of jumping on enemy heads, what is the chicken shoots weaponised words - like the player presses Q or something and "BAWK" is shot at the enemy.
I also need to consider implementation of coins or collectables for the player to collect, as well as a scoreboard system
I realistically hope to create a simple level with a few basic enemies and some kind of projectile before my next blog.
I'm happy with everything I'm learning so far!!!

Week 2
During week 2 I began my journey in Gdevelop.
I learned how to create a new project - specifically a platformer which will help in the development of Run, Chicken, RUN!
I also learned how to manage and rename scenes to keep them organised, add objects and assign models and behaviours - including the creation of a character sprite and platforms.
Finally, I incorporated actions to make the camera centre on the Main Character during platforming.
All of these factors, especially the use of actions, will be super helpful and the key factors for developing my game.
It's pretty basic currently and is only the workshop material, but the project is looking good

Run, Chicken, RUN! - Elevator Pitch
Imagine a platformer where Crossy Road meets Super Mario Bros. ‘Run, Chicken,RUN!’ is a platformer in which a chicken must traverse deadly terrain to make it back to the henhouse… hopefully.
Following the Auto-runner subgenre, my game will have the chicken dodging and weaving platforms from the left to the right side of the stage.
The primary mechanics will have the chicken jumping on the heads of dangerous ducklings who aim to hurt the chicken. The chicken will also be able to run into chicken feed for a health-up!
The setting of the levels will take place in a farm-world, with platforms made up of haybales, and animal-themed enemies.
The target audience for my game are teenagers to young adults, aiming for an audience who are proficient with their hands.
Tumblr media
The MC, Mr Chicken
Tumblr media
A possible model of the platforms
Tumblr media
Enemies such as Mr Duck, who aims to damage and eliminate the MC.
Tumblr media
The HenHouse, the goal of the chicken
Tumblr media
Simple Control scheme makes getting into the gameplay easy for anyone!!!
My three unique selling points!!!
Whimsical spin on a massive and successful genre
A classic and successful gameplay loop
Challenging and rewarding gameplay that will make it hard for gamers to put it down.

Week 1
Hey all!!! My name is Kodin and this will be my first year studying BGIE! My favourite game of all time is probably persona 4, something about the combat and the characters and the music is just so GOOD! A game that’s recently got me addicted has to be either elden ring or marvel rivals. A game developer that I love and adore has to be Toby Fox, he just radiates chaotic energy and just cooks in every game he touches (also his pixel style is so iconic).
My goal for this unit is to produce a game that can mimic a fraction of the chaos and enjoyment that you'd get from a Toby Fox game, including some signature mechanics and some silly jokes
