Jurassic World: Rebirth - My Thoughts

So, finally got to go see Rebirth on Wednesday after spending months getting myself more and more hyped for what was coming! Jurassic's always been a franchise dear to my heart, as one of the big things that got me into both dinosaurs and writing in general, and even though some of their more recent output (Dominion & Camp Cretaceous' final two seasons), every instalment has had at least something that stuck with me and kept me going back.
I'll start off with just general non-spoilery thoughts and then dive into spoiler territory under a post cut, so without further ado...

For general thoughts, I loved this movie! I definitely needed some big-screen dinosaurs in my life again and Rebirth delivered that in spades, with each dinosaur looking absolutely stunning and able to show off what they're all about. Getting to see Spinosaurus again on the big screen was a particular joy. It was nice to see them brought to the forefront of the plot again after Dominion pivoted toward a locust conspiracy.
I thought the characters were generally fine, they did enough to get me to like them and want them to make it through. One exception though, but that's for the spoiler part. Dr. Henry Loomis was the highlight for me, but across the board I felt the cast all did great.
Overall, the movie was a great time and something I think every Jurassic fan should at least give it a shot. It's third in my personal ranking of the movies (behind Fallen Kingdom and the original), a generally solid movie that I wish personally did a little more, but nothing too bad.
And now for spoilers...

Getting into spoiler territory, my main issue with the movie is Martin Krebs. Even with Dominion's human villains on the roster, Krebs is easily the franchise's weakest human antagonist. He feels like the writers didn't actually know what they wanted Krebs to be, so they have him be generally okay and then put him into a situation that forces him to "do an evil" (to put it one way) so that he can be the film's villain. Even his heel turn moment when everyone reunites at the worker village felt half-baked. If they wanted Krebs to be the villain, they needed to commit to making him such.
Outside of that, generally my other gripes are mostly nitpicks, or stuff the film didn't do that I wish it did. I was expecting the Spinosaurus group to properly chase the team onto the beach when the Mosasaurus couldn't follow them any longer, and while there was one chilling on the shore that bagged a kill, I wanted to see how they were properly on land.
The Velociraptors too...now, I wasn't expecting them to have huge roles, especially once the Mutadons were revealed in trailer 2, but I definitely expected more than just a background shot while some guy nips for a piss. It felt like a bit of an insult to an animal that's been a franchise staple since the beginning, especially with the T.rex getting a really cool river raft sequence in comparison.
For more positive spoiler talk, getting to see the Dunkleosteus for a few seconds was awesome and makes me really excited for the sorts of creatures we could see in future entries. The other funky lil animals we got to see throughout were cool too. More Paleozoic and Cenozoic animals, please!
The kills we got were pretty cool too. My favourites would have to be the fifth Spinosaurus ambushing that girl from the beach, the Quetzalcoatlus' kill and watching its neck bulge while swallowing that guy was creepy, and the Distortus' helicopter kill was pretty cool too.

As for the mutants, they were alright. I'll always maintain that the Indominus rex is my least favourite hybrid species in Jurassic, and I'm glad that the Distortus rex and Mutadon fall more in line with Camp Cretaceous' Scorpius rex, being freaky-looking dino monsters. Was pleasantly surprised that the D.rex lived, and I look forward to maybe seeing it again.
Overall though, again, I had a good time with Rebirth despite wanting a bit more from it, and I look forward to seeing what Jurassic has in store next.

The joy I feel for Jurassic World: Rebirth, especially after yesterday's trailer, is very difficult for me to put into words.

Jurassic as a franchise has always been one of my favourites, and has always been one of my biggest inspirations creatively, and Rebirth has been making me feel like a kid watching the original all over again.
July can't get here soon enough

Went to see Thunderbolts a couple days ago, might just be the most fun I've had with a Marvel movie (that wasn't Spider-Man or Deadpool) in ages, it is SO good!
One bone to pick with it, but other than that, no notes. Go see Thunderbolts if you can!

What people expect when I say I’m a writer: writing a whole novel
What I actually do: get into a fandom or come up with an original idea, go to sleep every night thinking of the story, make imaginary scenarios and Pinterest boards, make Spotify playlists, and finally sit down to write it out 2 months later only to get another idea and abandon the story. Repeat the cycle.

Happy World Book Day!
In celebration of World Book Day over here, wanted to both share my growing Beast Quest collection and also let y'all know that I've made a dedicated side blog for the series so I can gush about it!

Not much else to say, but hopefully I'll be able to start putting out some more original content on this blog while nerding out over Beast Quest on its own page!
Until next time :)

Sharing cuz Beast Quest fanart in 2025 is awesome and more people should do it!
been thinking a lot about beast quest recently...unlike the rest of tumblr lol
a lot of the beasts are a bit generic (after all it was a mass-produced series) but there's some real banger designs in there so i drew some!

(left to right) kama the faceless beast, soltra the stone charmer, doomskull the king of fear, koba ghoul of the shadows and vespick the wasp queen

sometimes you just have to let yourself be a bit neurodivergent.
i hate going out, it gives me a lot of anxiety and sensory input that i dont like, and i am often forced to talk to people.
so i do this thing on more difficult days, or sometimes just for fun, where i "bring a fictional character with me". i walk and imagine Fictional Character walking next to me. they talk to me, reassure me, hype me up, whatever i need them to do.
today dean winchester came christmas shopping with me. he went over the list with me of stuff i needed to get, told me i was doing a good job every time i finished in a certain shop, reminded me to take a deep breath when i got a little overwhelmed.
and yea. its kinda silly. and i know its just me talking to myself in a different voice, but it Works! especially since all of my special interests/hyperfixations tend to be tv/movie related.
so do what you gotta do to Get Shit Done. stop holding yourself to neurotypical standards. if you need Fictional Character to tell you you're doing a good job, do it! if you need Favourite Singer to walk you to school, do it! yea it might feel silly but you're literally fighting against your own brain to get stuff done every single day. you can have a little self indulgent daydream, as a treat.

Any Beast Quest fans still roaming around the Internet?
This has been my favourite book series since I was a kid, and I still take comfort in it to this day, it holds up surprisingly well.
If you do see this, let me know what your favourite book in the series is!
