We lived through this massacre in every painful detail, and we are still in pain 😔. We were so happy when the ceasefire was announced, and we returned to our homes in the north of Gaza after being displaced for a year and a half in a tent in the south of the Strip. After we fixed a small room in our destroyed house to live in and start over, unfortunately, the war returned, stronger than before 💔. Now, we have no shelter and no source of income. We have exhausted all our savings during the war. I know that I started my campaign very late, but that’s because there is no other way to help my family 🙏. I am fully confident and hopeful that someone here will help us as much as they can and save my family in these difficult circumstances 😔.

I need to rant about how much I love 160 Acres. I especially love the historical setting, America in the 70s is something I've always been obsessed about. I love every single cultural reference in this, from the car Sirius drives to the clothes they wear. Especially that honeymoon resort that I had no idea existed in real life and has been abandoned for decades! I've spent a couple hours reading about it and looking up pictures and it's truly fascinating.

I was wondering, do you follow any specific historical researching process?

I do a TON of historical research!! Probably more than is strictly necessary for fanfic, which, let’s face it, is not exactly known for being the most realistic genre. But in this case, I do want every detail to be as accurate as possible.

My research is usually on an as-needed basis. When I need something to happen, I start researching. Here are some of my rabbit holes:

I needed a popular 70s honeymoon destination and landed on those psychotically weird Poconos hotels with heart-shaped beds and champagne glass bathtubs. Penn Hills Resort was, indeed, a real place!

I read A LOT of Billboard Top 40 lists. Can’t have them listening to a song that’s not released yet! Here’s the week of June 2, 1973. The song on the radio in chapter 1 (Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree) is not only on that list, but also offers a bit of foreshadowing.

I learned that the most popular lube for gay men at that time was Crisco. (Thank you, Columbia University). Prior to that it was Vaseline, so much so that a well-known Central Park cruising spot was known as “Vaseline Alley.”

I wanted one of them to refer to “Stockholm syndrome” but found out that the bank robbery that inspired that phrase hadn’t happened yet!! It happens in August 1973, and in this story, it’s still only June.

I discovered that $20 would have been enough money for four people to have breakfast at a diner (with change) because of this vintage menu on eBay.

I wanted a reason for the Salvation Army to be empty of shoppers, so I researched sporting events in the summer 1973 and landed on Secretariat winning the triple crown on June 9.

Also, since I was attempting some semblance of historical realism, I knew there was no way Cassie could travel through the American South in the early 70s (or even now) without encountering racism, hence their experience in a sundown town.

All of their clothes (Lily’s bridesmaid outfit, the band t-shirts, Remus’s patched jeans) are based on real reference pics from googling, Pinterest, etc.

James sends Jean a telegram to tell him that Sirius and three friends are coming to New Orleans.

There are lots more details that are coming. But trust that every song, every car, every price, every everything will be researched by me.
