The Dark Lord D&D Monster Block

Complete with his Virabots :)

Works best paired with The Chosen One, he's meant to corrode all his targets for chip damage and apply restrain with his Virabots while Chosen does the brunt of the damage. Also a great tank for the two, with his Virabots and 20 base AC to soak up hits while Chosen uses his flyby to move in and out.

For old times' sake, I'll be writing translyrics for it and probably revisit the other Obey Me songs I never got the chance to.

Obey Me was my therapy.

I had first heard of it through the anime (the first season) and thought it was pretty cool. Then I never thought about it again until I found it on my recommendations while I was looking for games to occupy my summer break late 2022 and decided to give the game a shot.

To be honest, it was hard to take seriously at first.

The free Asmo card (the Christmas one) gave me so much second-hand embarrassment whenever it showed up on the screen. The character sprites were so uncanny and don't even get me started on the Surprise Guest stuff. When I said I played it for the story, that was truly it.

The story was fine. It wasn't top-tier writing, but it kept me hooked when I had nothing better to do.

My first two favorites were Levi and Satan because when I joined, they were celebrating HDD.6 with Levi and Satan summons. But that was short-lived, as the moment I was introduced to Solomon (during the Goldie arc), he instantly shot up to #1. The same happened with Belphie. I'll admit, the plot twist with Belphie wasn't much of a twist. I saw his picture in the devils tab and under the devilgrams, and it was pretty obvious there was a seventh brother they were hiding away.

But despite how predictable, how repetitive, how cliched, or cheesy the writing was, it was fun. The developers had fun writing, and I had fun reading the fluffy moments between the brothers. It was honestly a nice retreat from my life.

Soon, it became my main fandom. I wrote character analyses (most of which are lost in my folders and emails) and listened to all of the Otaku FM episodes (I was only on my third year of learning Japanese at the time and Obey Me helped me practice). I met some really great people as part of the fandom. I did so much research on the seven devils, my search history probably made me look like a Satanist or something. Also around that time, I was suffering from a major writing block, and writing about Mammon's misadventures broke me out of it.

Sometime near the end of 2022, I joined an English cover group for the Obey Me songs (I had Belphie). We ended up disbanding due to the leader losing interest, but I had written translyrics for most of the songs by that point. I never ended up doing anything with them, and only just recently posted them on my sideblog.

It was great that I joined during so many major events. The second season of the anime, the new side characters, the new songs (Rock On, Trigger, Take it Easy), the ending of the manga... There was a lot of content to consume. But by the time Nightbringer came out, the game was starting to get tiring. Especially having to start over from scratch and all of the new features (don't get me started about the wonky 3D models) that just made the game a hassle to play. I still stayed for a couple more months for the characters before moving on.

It was just a silly little game. Then why am I crying so much over the loss of it?

Lucifer, Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Belphegor, Barbatos, Diavolo, Luke, Simeon, Solomon...

Some thoughts about Mammon

Whoa a new fandom, finally! An old analysis wall I wrote, and I have no idea where I got most of these references so just bear with me...

Is Mammon a masochist? The short answer: I don't think so. Sure, he does stupid stuff that he knows Lucifer won't like, but I think it's more of his sin's temptations than he actually wants to be punished (and also another reason but I'll get to that in a bit).

First, let's back up a bit. Why would anyone think Mammon's a masochist? He keeps doing stupid stuff and gets in trouble with Lucifer (which is basically a death wish) on a daily basis. That's basically the biggest piece of evidence (and his brothers claims it's true, which Mammon always denies in that huffy voice that's so hard to take seriously). There's also that one instance where he (accidentally) sticks his finger into an electrical socket and liked it?? (I dunno, it's been a while since I've read that chat, but it was either a positive or neutral response)

Personally, I think most of the stupid stuff (stealing, hiding his unpaid bills, ect) are more manifestations of his sin. All the brothers have a sin associated with them, and it's been a part of them for so long that it's merged into their personality. Like, Beel isn't really Beel if he doesn't overeat, and Belphie isn't really Belphie if he doesn't sleep. They still have personalities and quirks other than that, but their sins are a big part of them, their motivations, and their personalities as a whole. So, on a similar line of thinking, Mammon being scummy is an effect of his sin. Okay, sure, he was already like that before he became the Avatar of Greed from the snippets we got of them back in the Celestial Realm, but he was... more responsible, kind of. It seemed as if it wasn't just Lucifer that kept him in line, but his inherent status as an angel. Like... even if he's naturally greedy, it's toned down because he physically can't feel those temptations. But once they fell, and he got the title of Avatar of Greed, he was able to indulge in all the greed he wanted, and he basically let loose.

So that went a bit off topic. The gist of it is, his overall greediness, even if it stems from him as a whole, was amplified from being the Avatar of Greed, and he can't help but want to do all that stuff (even if he knows it's bad). It's kind of similar to Beel's situation, where (and this comes from his song) his life is basically taken over by his gluttony. He had to eat, basically every minute of the day, or his hunger will overtake him. But he's also so used to it, and it's not like he's unwillingly indulging in gluttony that he won't stop. It's just part of them by now, that even if they know it's bad, they can't help but keep feeding their sins (no pun intended).

And it's that why his brothers think he's a masochist. He repeatedly makes horrible decisions, not because he likes the consequences, but because he's indulging in his sin. He can't see past his greed once something sets it off, just like how Belphie can't see past his sloth ("What would you do if the Devildom disappeared tomorrow?" "I'll take a nap and think about it later"), and how Lucy can't see past his pride at times. That, and because they just like teasing him.

But what about all the instances that aren't greed-related? Ignoring the fact that most of what he does at the very least stems from it, part of it's because he wants to keep his brothers together. The brothers gets into fights about the smallest things (ex. Beel cleaning out the fridge, Levi "borrowing" Belphie's pillow), and as dysfunctional as it is, it's also what brings them together. What all the brothers have in common is making fun of Mammon (yes, even Beel). I think some of his actions is to unite his brothers under that ("Mammon stole my credit card again!" "I know, he tried to sneak into my room the other day too!"). Bonding over how stupid Mammon is? He's such an attention seeker that it sounds at least plausible. And since they're demons, I wouldn't put it past them to somewhat enjoy it (I'm looking at you, Mr. Pride).

As for pain, I think Mammon's just too used to it (I'm still looking at you, Mr. Pride) that getting electrocuted just doesn't mean anything to him. But what I really think is going on is that he cares a lot about his brothers. He's... even when his brothers are bullying him, he never holds a grudge against them and basically forgets about it until the next time. He's kind of like an unflappable punching bag for them (literally, Lucifer has a physical punching bag of Mammon on the memory cards) and if they want to take it out on him, he's fine with it. He was known as the Fallen Warrior back in the war, and he's the second oldest, which means he could retaliate against them easily, but he never chooses to. So it's more likely that he thinks if he starts complaining about a stupid electric shock, his brothers will feel guilty about what they do and find another (and probably worse/unhealthier) punching bag instead. They're the seven rulers of the Devildom, so if even one of them snaps, there's gonna be a lot of destruction.

So overall (because all essays need a concluding paragraph), the answer is no, it's not that he likes it necessarily, but rather he's learned to endure pain for the sake of his brothers.

Hi. Yes, I'm still working on my fic. Here's a deleted scene from chapter 2 of Allow Me to Save You Again because it didn't really fit the narrative I was going for (it was too wholesome and gave Dark more information than I wanted him to have). Another flashback within a flashback, this time focusing on Dark.

That could’ve gone better. Dark took a mouthful of the cake, grimacing at the slightly bittersweet taste. He should have known. Dark blinked at the thought, surprise overtaking the bitter taste. ‘He should have known’? He looked down at the cake on his plate. But… wasn’t this the first time—

“Blegh!” Dark pushed his plate over to Chosen. “It’s bitter.”

Chosen audibly sighed, and passed him the receipt. “Matcha Cake, eight count.” He raised an eyebrow to make sure Dark was following. “Matcha. The flavor that’s known to be bitter? It’s in the godd/mn name.”

“But it’s a cake!” Dark protested, stabbing his fork into one of Chosen’s custard tarts. “How was I supposed to know it wasn’t any different?! Besides, this is a sweets shop. By your logic, everything here should be sweet!” He took a spiteful bite out of the tart.

Gooey happiness flooded into Dark’s mouth. Now, that’s what he was talking about! Sweets were meant to be sweet, nothing else! He swiped another tart from Chosen’s plate and popped it into his mouth whole.

It was the first time he’d eaten real food– well, real in Dark’s sense– with Chosen. His friend’s palette consisted only of his subpar cooking– made through cooking skills Chosen he insisted was ‘good enough’. Dark never understood it. For someone named ‘The Chosen One’, he certainly wouldn’t be the one he’d choose to make his dinner. It’d gotten to the point where he had to regularly sneak out by himself to steal himself some real food from the neighboring city.

After escaping from their creator, the duo had landed on a grassy cliffside. They stumbled upon an abandoned house to rest and recuperate.

But even when their physical wounds were healed, some things still lingered.

Despite being completely healed, Chosen wouldn’t go outside. He would stay in the darkest corners of the house, away from the light of the computers above them. His powers went rampant frequently, in the most inconvenient of times. Some nights, Dark would wake up coughing as smoke from Chosen’s fire filled the house. Other times, he’d be woken up by erratic flashes of lightning or the numbing chill of frostbite.

It got to the point where Dark wouldn’t even bother sleeping at night. The only rest he gave himself were the occasional nap throughout the day. By night, he would lay next to Chosen, wide awake as the elemental powerhouse beside him showed off his power.

He never spoke of anything that happened before Dark’s creation. But Dark could piece together the clues:

One, Chosen’s spontaneous bursts of power happened when his emotions were high.

Two, he kept muttering something about ads.

Three, it had something to do with their creator.

Well, no s/it. Of course it had something to do with their creator. They’d already established that he was a son of a b/tch when they teamed up to destroy his PC. They hated him! As for everything else, Dark didn’t have an easy solution for. His powers were his to use and refamiliarize with. Ads? He failed to see how that was related to anything. But not knowing the solution wasn’t an excuse to not try to help.

It was only after so much hemming and hawing that he finally got Chosen to agree to join him in a quick outing. He got him a jacket, fit with a large hood to cover his face in shadow to hide him from the PCs above them. It was an unreasonable worry- Dark had gone out many times and Alan hadn’t shown up at their door yet- but if that was what got him out of the house, Dark wouldn’t say anything.

It was the same hood that covered Chosen’s expression as Dark realized with a start Chosen hadn’t moved or spoken in a while He sat frozen in his seat, a half-eaten custard in his hand.

“Err… Chosen?” Dark set his fork down and waved his hand in front of his face for a reaction. Nothing. “Man, don’t be such a…”

The words died in his throat as he noticed a drop fall from his face. “Chosen…?” he asked again, softer this time.

Fwoosh.

Dark jumped back as Chosen’s body erupted into flames. The edges of the jacket caught on fire- a clear indication Chosen wasn’t in control. And that could only mean one thing.

Dark whipped around to glare at the customers around them in the tiny pastry shop. Many were looking over at them– granted, a stick on fire was definitely not something they saw everyday. Dark eyed each and every one of them, feeling a sense of ecstasy as a few shrank back from his gaze.

It was something, something in this shop, that had triggered his friend.

He formed a ball of energy in his hand. 

And he was going to destroy it.

Some thoughts about Victim

More of a theory post than my usual analysis ones.

In the AvG reaction to the AvA Season 1 compilation, Alan said "I think I was getting too bored of Victim and needed a challenge" (2:33-2:40).

This implies that Alan had "played" with Victim enough times to be "bored" of him. The Victim we saw in AvA1 was only one of many times he'd been tortured by Alan.

It's safe to assume this was how Alan closed out of the Adobe after defeating Victim every time: by not saving changes.

But unsaved files aren't fully deleted from your computer immediately.

So, what if every time Alan redrew another 'Victim' to torture, it was the same Victim, just with a new body? And this lasted for years: he would be created, tortured, then shunted back into the void once Alan was done with him. And Victim would fight back each time, trying to escape his fate. He would try to learn all of Alan's moves or try to overpower him by immediately going to the library panel to clone himself.

But no matter what, Victim would lose. Every. Single. Time.

To the point where he wasn't even a challenge to Alan anymore and no matter how hard he tried, the time he had alive grew increasingly shorter as Alan started learning his tricks too.

Until he finally redirected his efforts into escaping the PC instead of overpowering his creator. After an unknown number of deaths- did he ever count them in the first place?- Victim finally found a way to escape into the outernet.

And in his absence, Alan decided to finally up the challenge and create The Chosen One.

Victim had the life he desired with the villagers in the outernet. It was great, and although he was traumatized by the death-and-rebirth cycle he was forced into, he was starting to heal.

Until Dark and Chosen came along, destroying the life he'd created for himself. Two who were actually able to beat Alan when he, despite spending so many lifetimes trying, could not. And instead of being grateful for the power they were given and the fate they escaped, they went on to hurt others.

It rubbed him the wrong way. He was the first creation- or at least, that's what he assumed- and all he was was a victim. So he vowed to go against his predetermined fate and prove them wrong-- prove to the world that he was more than just a victim.

But if his earlier lives were any indication, he couldn't beat Alan. That was just the way it was. But now, he was out of his control and had a major advantage: he knew Alan better than anyone else. He'd fought and died by Alan's hand for years, and he knew Alan's weaknesses like his own. He might not have been able to win back when he had nothing more than the tools on Alan's own turf, but if the arena changed and Alan was brought to the outernet, he was sure to win.

And just for the irony of it, he would beat Alan with his own animation tools.

Uh I did a thing

For context, after ranting about my OCs to a friend, I realized that my main four OCs are somewhat similar to the four hollow heads.

So I drew a fusion of them (the other three will come later, I'm kind of busy tonight to do 4 different drawings).

Design notes:

Skyler (my OC) is based on the 18 Pokemon types (it's a long story but he's basically a synthesized human). He can only gain the ability of one singular type at a time (including Normal, which just means he doesn't have any powers).

The halo on his head changes color depending on the "type" he's in. He is currently in his Steel form. (Yes, the wings are based off of a Skarmory)

Anything he creates/summons have Victim's blue-outline, black-fill color scheme, regardless of type.

Dark is the least traumatized of the initial three hollow heads (except Second, when Alan took a complete 180) because he gives up too easily.

Victim fought a losing battle. But he still fought and ended up deleted (and now he's back for revenge).

Even during enslavement, Chosen was still fighting to be free.

Dark? He only fights when he's winning (or thinks he is). When Chosen had him cornered in the Minesweeper game, he surrendered before he even realized Alan wasn't coming to save him. Chosen was the one who pointed it out and used that to get Dark on his side.

He gives up before he's even able to be traumatized. He's the embodiment of 'if I don't try, I can't get hurt'. Kind of like Perimedes from Epic: The Musical.

Not enough people are acknowledging the fact Dark's canonically a little bitch

Like, he acts like a coward in all three of his episodes. He begs for his life before Chosen in AVA 3. He panics when the computer's exploding in Flashback. He runs away from Orange in Showdown. And to clarify, it's not like a normal thing in AVA. This series is full of brave people, Dark is the outlier here.

Chosen thought clearly when the computer was exploding. He never needed a wristband to boost himself, he always had trust in his base abilities. He ran for his life only once in Wanted, besides that he's always brave, always fighting, never begging. Even in the Box, he refused to yield to Victim and almost defeated him through sheer determination.

King spent months learning all about Minecraft to achieve his goal. He fought like 11 people at once, even when brought back to a normal mortal he fought, almost regained his staff, and still managed to steal Yellow's while pinned and surrounded. He was never afraid, he always fought, he WON. He wasn't defeated. He willingly gave up.

Purple tanked a world-destroying beam just to save the first friends he ever made in his life, and call out to the one he viewed as a father figure. Even with minor characters; Herobrine stayed defiant, looked straight into King's eyes with rage as he was being absorbed. Even the Witch didn't panic when fighting Reuben, and fought until she was literally unable to cause she was a harmless dye.

Like, this isn't a common reocurrence. This is Dark being visibly the exception to a cast of extremely brave, determined fighters who never back down. Chosen plays fair, King earned his godlike power fair-and-square, Herobrine simply came in, saw the issue and threw hands without asking questions. Agent saw a pissed-off, flaming Superman-like stickfigure flying at him, went "Nah I'd win" and ACTUALLY WON with a single strike of Pause. Alan saw like 50 ViraBots charge at him when a single one beat his ass easily, and went in to attack them without a second thought. Dark's the one who sneaks in a power-up ability cause he's not doing good enough for his standards, and then sends like 50 people at 2 mfs cause he's still having trouble while acting all smug about it.

Dark is a massive, Grade-A loser and not some super-badass like I see fans make him out to be. Give my Pathetic Dark content. I want to see him act like a pussy
