Chapter One
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gabriel knocked on the Salvatore's door, Elena answered. "How did I know I'd find you here?" Gabriel said lightly, and she looked awkward.
"Gabriel." Damon said behind her.
"Damon." He responded.
"You two met?" Elena said, confused.
"Mhmm. Let me in." He returned, and they stepped back. Gabriel headed in. "So, vampires, Elena? Really?"
"You know?"
"People in this town are… so oblivious." He said and looked to Damon.
"Check out the Vervain, Elena." Damon said dryly.
"…Huh."
"Yeah. So, why does John hate you, other than the obvious?"
"Mainly the obvious. But there's also a vague fact that he wants me to do something, and I don't want to do it."
"Hmm, what's that?"
"I don't trust you."
"Weird choice from the vampire who stakes his own kind to save his own skin."
"… Harsh. You just hunt us for money."
"I hunt Obvious Vampires that made enemies."
"Hmm. So, not me?"
"Damon. People hate the Salvatore brothers. But most of the ones who care enough don't have anything worth the trade, and now, Elena's dating Stefan. So, congrats, you're officially off limits."
"Good. I don't like being on peoples lists. Can I have the names of the ones who tried?"
"No."
"Ugh. Annoying."
"Mhmm. Elena, you're abandoning me with John in that house. Why?"
"I'm avoiding him. I was just on my way out. You coming?"
"No. I'll bother Damon for a minute."
"Right…" She said, looking worried.
"Who?"
"What?" She asked, confused.
"Who do you think is going to hurt who?" Gabriel asked her with a sigh.
"… Just be careful." She said, turning to the door.
"I am Not that bad." Damon said dryly. "And anyway, how did you know about me?" He asked as Elena closed the door behind her.
"I have my tricks and secrets." He hummed. "Where's your brother?"
"In the basement. In time out." He said dryly, and Gabriel smiled slightly.
"Sorry. Blood addicted vampire is the norm, right?"
"Not to this level. You here to convince me to help your uncle?"
"I'm not a kill all vampires hunter." He said, shaking his head. "I'm just bored and avoiding him. You're like repellent."
"Ouch. And I wish. He keeps turning up."
"Hmm, fair enough. I also want to ask a… slightly un-bias source. Alaric Saltzman, what's he like?"
"Hunter. Kinda hates me. Tried to kill me. Seems good otherwise. Worried about your aunt?"
"Yes. She doesn't exactly have the best track record. Elena picks boring, Jeremys… unfortunate, Jenna picks pricks."
"Elena's dating my brother."
"Mhmm. I'm waiting to be proved wrong."
~
"They were leaving." Gabriel said lightly after John staked two vampires. "Why would you do that?"
"They're still vampires." He said simply as they walked to the car.
"They didn't hurt anyone, blood from bags, stayed in one house. They just wanted a normal life." He continued as they got back to the car, and John dropped his bag into the trunk.
"A vampire is a vampire. And that means they should be dead. That's our Family, Gabriel."
"Your family. I'm not doing that. You'd kill every Vampire in town? Stefan? Elena's boyfriend?"
"Yes. Just like Grayson would have."
"Maybe it's a good thing Dad was Already disappointed in me when he died then. Because he couldn't view me worse than him sending me away to an incompetent hunter."
"Is that why you didn't come to the funeral?"
"No. My invitation seemed to get lost in the mail. No one Told me until after."
"Have you even visited them?"
"Have you?" John frowned and pulled his phone out, calling the sheriff pointing to the car.
Gabriel stared for a moment, and when John turned his back on him, he turned around and walking away from him and the car.
He made his way to the road almost home when John pulled up beside him. "Get in the car."
"Screw you."
"Re, get-"
"Don't. Don't call me that." He snapped, then continued to walk and heard a car door close. John was walking beside him, and he continued to ignore him.
"Do you have any idea-! I thought a vampire grabbed you, Gabriel!"
"They didn't, all safe. You can leave now." John grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stop. "You know, you're getting a little too quick to grab me."
"You think?"
"Yes. Get off me." He snapped.
"Are you going to listen to me?"
"You're not my Dad. Not even my legal guardian. So no. I'm not. I'm going back to see Jenna. Who Is, in fact, legally in charge."
"I'm still family."
"I barely have a family. You and Dad decided that for me. I'm trying to get that back best I can if you don't mind." He said, ripping from him.
"There's a Reason Greyson asked me."
"I don't care." He said snapped back quickly. John went as if to speak before heading back to his car as Gabriel continued away from him.
~
Almost all of the next day, Gabriel hid out at the grill with his laptop and a notebook until he saw Elena meeting someone, a vampire. He frowned for a moment and slipped his things into his bag, and went to head out, assuming Damon would know why. But the women stopped him.
"Gabriel?"
The teen looked to Elena and then to her. "Do I… know you?"
"No, not yet. I'm Isobel. Your sister searched for me." She said, and he nodded.
"Okay… creepy. I'm -"
"I'm your mother." She said.
He stilled where he was going to point to the exit hand slowly lowering as he finally met her eyes, then looked to Elena, who immediately looked away.
He expression fell to an uncharacteristically neutral one. "You're mistaken. My mom was Miranda Sommers-Gilbert." He said flatly.
"She never gave birth to you."
"… Even so. You're no mother. You're a vicious leech here to blackmail someone, aren't you?"
Isobel smiled lightly. "Brave."
"Elena. We're both leaving."
"Are you?" Isobel asked as Elena stood.
"He's right."
"Elena, sit down." She said simply. "And call off your boyfriend." Elena slowly sat. "You too."
He tilted his head to one side and smiled in amusement. "Bite me." He said simply and turning to leave.
She didn't follow.
Gabriel got home eyes red from holding back tears as he walked to the kitchen on instinct. He went to make coffee and ended up scolding his hand and moved to the sink with a loud swear.
"Are you okay?" Jenna asked, coming in, and he turned to look at her.
"Am I… I'm adopted?" He asked and she looked slightly horrified and the tears hit him harder then expected not even remembering to turn off the tap as he turned sliding down the counter as tears fell chest shaking as he tried not to sob.
Jenna moved to his side taking the short second to turn the tap off before wrapping his arms around him and he, despite wanting to pull away, ended up curling into her crying silently into her shoulder as she ran a hand through his hair softly.
There were footsteps coming into the room, and Gabriel didn't move, but Jenna looked up, seeing John looking genuinely worried.
Gabriel slowly pulled away and pulled his knees to his chest. "Is that the real reason they didn't keep me when I came out?" He asked, not looking.
"What?" It was John who spoke.
"He found out he's adopted." Jenna said simply. "No -"
"Of course not." John cuts her off. "They loved you."
"I spent over a quarter of my life without them. Dad never even called more then… twice." He said shakily.
"He loved you." John repeated. "They just thought, small town, better if you came back the man you wanted to be. Rather than let the people throw you off of your course."
"I would have been happier with my family. Who apparently didn't care enough to tell me I wasn't family."
"You're still family." Jenna said sharply. Gabriel looked to her in surprise. "No matter what happens. You're family. Okay? You are my nerdy nephew, Jeremy's big brother and Elenas trouble making Twin."
"Does Jer know?"
"I think Elena planned to tell him, did she tell you?"
"No. I found out in the Grill." He said and pushed up, pulling his hoodie off, leaving him in his vest, showing scars that cover the newly exposed skin.
"Gabe…" Jenna said, getting to her feet, catching his wrists.
"What happened?"
"Which ones? …. scrap that. Violent dog. Wrong place, wrong time." He told her, but she didn't look like he believed him. "Honestly, Aunt Jenna. I'm okay. Sorry for… that. I'm usually better at emotion… That's a lie."
"Yeah, that's a lie. You just usually don't do sad." Jenna agreed, and she pulled him into another hug. They heard Jeremy coming, leaving someone a voicemail.
Gabriel pulled back eyes flick to his arms, and grabbed his hoodie again, pulling it on with a sigh and pushed to his feet.
"How is Anna? I like that girl, she has fire." Jenna asked as they both stood, turning to Jeremy.
"I don't know. She won't return my calls." He said carefully, seeming slightly confused.
"Girl trouble?" John asked.
"No, no trouble. Anna just owes me a call, that's it."
"Is that the girl that I show you with at the Founders' pageant? You two are getting hot and heavy. When was the last time you saw her?"
"Why?" Jeremy asked, looking to him with a frown.
"I was just making conversation. No one else in this house likes me." John said. Jenna and Gabriel looked to each other and shrugged. "At least I can talk to you, especially if you need someone to talk to about girls."
"I'm also available for girl talk. If you want someone to talk to, that isn't… John." He offered jokingly, and Jeremy laughed.
"You don't even like girls."
"I just prefer men. And girls like me." He shrugged, and Jeremy laughed.
"That's my cue to leave." Jenna said, heading out.
"So, seriously, how well do you know Anna?" John asked, heading into the kitchen properly. Gabriel started back making coffee again, careful not to burn himself again.
"I know Anna extremely well."
"I want you to know that you can talk to me about anything. I'm here to answer any questions that you have to help you in any way I can." John said carefully. Gabriel passed Jeremy a coffee, and he took it, still looking to John.
"Why?"
"Because your dad would want me to."
"I'm ah…" He frowned. "I'm good." He said, heading out of the kitchen.
"John. That's not going to help. Why are you actually interested in Anna?"
"Pretty sure she's a vampire." He said simply once Jeremy was gone.
"Don't… Don't kill his girlfriend." He sighed. "I'm going out." He said, taking a drink before dropping the cup by the sink.
"We should talk about the scars -"
"No. I'm good, thanks." He said, grabbing his backpack and paused, when he saw Elena walk in. Then he turned and went out the back door instead.
Gabriel looked around before slipping through the back window of a house with a foreclosure sign out front. He dropped his bag and shifted, sitting crossed legged pulling out books, looking through the couple of bestiaries, and the new journal he'd been sent. He twisted the pen in his pen and started to write skipping over the first page.
As soon as they did, their phone rang, and he hit answer, continuing to write.
`You're finally using it?` The man said lightly that caused his pen to stop for a short moment before it continued.
"That's creepy."
`The witch told me the spell finally took effect, Love. Have you been busy?`
"Family drama. Found out I'm adopted. I was officially the last one to know." He said simply.
`Ah, that's never fun. I wasn't happy when I found out Father wasn't my father. How are you handling it?`
"Pissed at my siblings for not to telling me. But it makes sense, I guess."
`Of course. So, are you using it as a diary?`
"No. No way. I'm making my own version a Bestiary." He said with a smile.
`Ah, so you don't have to just edit one?`
"Some are so bad." Gabriel chuckled softly. "And this one means I can put, actually Events in, and nothing can be used against me. Or you."
`Sweet of you to think so. Do I get my own section?`
"Weirdo."
`I'm serious! I deserve my own entry.`
"Fine, but that means if I ever meet another, they also do."
`Ugh, must they?`
"Yes. Oh, there's a vampire in town, a nuisance. Kind of want to kill her. But nothing serious."
`Hmm, nothing otherwise notable?`
"No. No, new witches to register. A couple of harmless vampires with hunters to match."
`Right. How's the place you're staying?`
"Boring but still drama. I am currently borrowing a foreclosure to get away from everything."
`Not the most expensive one though?`
"No, still a higher one though. I wish I had compulsion. So much easier to do things."
`Can't have it without the rest, love.`
"Mhmmm, not that worth it, not yet. How's the newest witch?"
`Amazing.`
"Powerful enough?"
`Not alone.`
"Shame."
Chapter two
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gabriel pulled up the Gilbert house stopping his bike and taking a backpack out of the storage before heading to the door and knocking. The door was answered by a man and he paused in surprised. "Uncle John?"
"Gabriel?" A woman's voice came behind him and Gabriel grinned as John was pulled aside and a women, mousey hair up in a ponytail pulled him into a hug.
"I missed you, Aunt Jenna." He said wrapping his arms around her before they headed inside.
"Coffee?" She asked and he nodded light. "Come on in. Let's get you settled." She said and Gabriel walked in placing his helmet on the first table and following Jenna to the kitchen. "You just missed Elena and Jeremy, they're at school."
"Good, School's important." He said in a mock serious tone and Jenna looked to him pointedly as she handed him a coffee.
"Mhmm, you been going?"
"No." He said with a laugh.
"Gabriel, you have to-"
"Oh no, please don't lecture me." He sighed taking a drink of his coffee. "Every phone call, Jenna. My education is fine. I just don't do well in a classroom."
"What about grades?"
"Don't worry about it."
"Legally-"
"Legally I haven't been in this house properly since 13, Jenna." He reminded her softly as John finally came to join them.
"You don't go to school?"
"Don't you start, John." He said frowning.
"You need someone to tell you apparently."
"Don't try it. I'm fine. Maths, English, science. I'm good."
"Languages?"
"Latin, French, Spanish. Latin just reading wise though." John frowned but nodded. "Also Nordic runes. That was a slow week." He added with a small shrug. "How've they been?"
"They're better, Elena's got a new boyfriend. But Jeremy did just lose a friend, so be nice." Jenna explained.
"Sure. It's Jeremy." He nodded.
"Thank you."
"And you?"
"What about me?"
"New guy? Girl?" She teased.
"There was… maybe a guy."
"Oh, tell me."
"Really?" John said dryly.
"Nowhere else to be John?" Jenna asked.
"I just got here."
"Bye, John." Jenna said and Gabriel laughed lightly.
"One quick question John, can I borrow a couple of Johnathan Gilberts Journals? I want to cross reference a few things I'm researching with what he wrote."
"I'll see if I can get you one, anything specific?"
"We can talk it later."
"Oh, Gilbert secrets?" Jenna asked.
"Just the stupid local battle." Gabriel told her easily and John hummed lightly. "You know me, violence is interesting."
"I know the ones I'll get you." He said simply before heading towards the door.
"That's a new way to get rid of him." Jenna said in a whisper and Gabriel laughed softly.
"It's a founding family trait I've found. They're so proud of their ancestors." Gabriel said dryly. "Which is so interesting, but weird."
"Agreed." Jenna said dryly and they both laughed softly. "Oh, you chose the Worst time to come. You hate traditions. It's Founders day kick off." Jenna said and Gabriel stopped coffee stopping most of the way to his lips before groaning putting the cup down.
~
Gabriel was lying on his back pen in one hand book in another as he read adding slight notes to it when the door opened. "Gabe!?" Jeremy said and Gabriel was on his feet in seconds pen and book forgotten as he dragged Jeremy into a hug."Hey, baby brother." He said as he pulled back."When did you get back?"
"Today, apparently I just missed you."
"You and Uncle John in one day. Proper family reunion." He said with a half smile.
"Where's our sister?"
"Probably with Stefan."
"Stefan?"
"Her boyfriend."
"Oh, obviously. She totally tells me things like that." He said.
"I'm sure, mhmm. You cooking? I remember last time you were here, you were a great cook. You and… You and dad used to make the best meals."
"I'll cook, Jer." He agreed as John came back in and he headed to the kitchen.
Elena came in with a guy as Gabriel was cooking and Jeremy moved making sure food wouldn't burn when Gabriel moved to meet her. "`Lena?" He said when she moved to go upstairs and she stopped for a moment.
"Gabe?" She said lightly and moved arms wrapping around his shoulders leaning close for a while.
"You gonna introduce me?" He asked softly tapping her shoulder and she pulled back looking to Stefan.
"Right… So, Stefan, this is Gabriel. Gabe this is Stefan my boyfriend." She said moving to take Stefan's hand.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Elenas twin brother, I'm the older one." He offered.
"Barely!" Elena complained.
"I'm making dinner, joining us, Stefan?"
"If you don't mind."
"I don't. I think John's the only one who would, and no one cares about that."
They were sitting at the table eating Jenna joining for a while before heading to the couch to do her work. Elena and Stefan headed upstairs about school work.
"I've no interest in the Founders' Day Kick-off Party." Jeremy said to John, and Gabriel hummed in agreement.
"Sure, you do. It's tradition."
"It will be our role to break the tradition." Jenna said, and Gabriel smiled over to her while John looked unimpressed.
"The Gilberts have been a part of this town for a hundred and fifty years. We're one of the founding families, and with that distinction comes certain obligations, including going to the party. One day, when you can appreciate the significance, I'll tell you all about your heritage." John told Jeremy.
"Hmm, the Gilbert family legacy. I forgot how sacred it was. I'm not a Gilbert, so I was never cool enough to hear it." Jenna added again.
"It's not that interesting." Gabriel said dryly, and John raised an eyebrow.
"Why does she hate you?" Jeremy asked John in a low voice."We used to sleep together." John said bluntly, and Jenna immediately threw a bag at him.
"I'm right here." She complained."Wow, Jenna, standards were low, weren't they?" Gabriel said, getting a laugh from Jenna and Jeremy as John rolled his eyes.
"Are you going to take the metal out of your face for the party?" John asked.
"I'm not going." Gabriel said pen spinning in his fingers, not even looking to him.
"Yes, you are." He said, annoyed. "You're a Gilbert. You're coming."
"A banished Gilbert. Four years, John."
"You weren't banished, don't be dramatic."
"I was sent away from my home and family." He said, standing and turning to him. "What would you call it?"
"An adjustment period."
"Mhmm, is that right? Screw you." He said with a half laugh. "I don't even have the clothes for this event, John. I don't do formal, and I got that choice because on my 'adjustment period'. No one needed me to go to fancy parties. I just learned, trained, researched, and travelled." He went to go past him, and John caught his arm.
"I'll get you suit. Sit down, I'll be back." He said, walking from the room, and Gabriel glared after him before he sat down again.
"Jenna, he's a dick. How am I related to him?"
"You're also a dick." Jenna said after a moment and looked from her work with a teasing smile.
"… Oh yeah. That." They said with a laugh and moved sitting on the couch beside her. "Can't I just have yours and moms side of the Genetics?"
"Unfortunately, not. You're stuck with it." She told him, and he frowned at her slightly stilted tone.
"Everything okay?"
"Fine. Wanna hear what I have to write?"
"Oh, yeah. Do tell." Gabriel nodded, happy to listen as Jenna started to talk through the work.
On the way out, Gabriel grabbed his jacket and helmet. "You're not actually planning to ride that thing, are you?" John asked.
"They'll already think I'm trash. I'm going in my way, Johnny." He told him, pulling the helmet on.
"So, cool." Jeremy said lightly, and he chuckled lightly, heading out to his bike and headed off before the others got to the car.
Gabriel got to the house and paused at the door, seeing the look of only just disguised disgust from the Lockwoods, minus Tyler - the son."Hey, Ty." He waved, and Tyler paused, then moved to meet him as he removed the helmet.
"Angel?" He asked in surprise, and the other grinned.
"You recognise me? And here I thought you'd forget about me." He said as they moved hands, meeting pulling each other in a quick half hug.
"Yeah, the texting does that." He said as he pulled back. "Totally wiped my mind. You don't even exist." He said casuall. Gabriel laughed, walking with him towards where his parents stood."
And you are?" His father asked.
"Gabriel Gilbert, Mayor Lockwood. Sorry, I know it's been a while. Eldest Gilbert child."
"Gabriel. You do look different." Carol said with a smile. "Wonderful to see you again, the others just headed in. I'm sure Tyler will let you put your jacket and helmet in his room." She offered pointedly.
"Thank you, ma'am." Gabriel said with an easy, polite smile. "It's wonderful to see you both again."
"And you, Gabriel." The Mayor offered with a plastic smile as Tyler motioned for Gabriel to follow.
As soon as they got upstairs, they both started laughing. "They hate me so much." Gabriel barely got out.
"But you're a founding family, this is amazing, they can't do anything about it." Tyler said, pulling the helmet from him. "This is neat, since when do you ride?"
"Two years ago?" He offered. "You can get a license for one of those at 15. It's great. Freedom, Ty. It's magical."
"I bet." He nodded, and they dropped the jacket and helmet onto Tylers bed.
"Abandoned me and came back as the Town rebel."
"Really? That sounds interesting, but I'm pretty sure your parents think I'm the trashiest guy here."
"Thank god you met them before this, or I would never be allowed around you." He chuckled.
"Oh, don't worry, I know." He said he hummed as they headed back down the stairs, and he fixed his shirt cuffs. "I gotta go see who that is talking to my aunt."
"That's Mr Saltzman." Tyler said. "Or Ric, the newest history teacher."
"Ugh, is he one of those, 'I'm a cool guy' teachers?"
"… Yeah, actually."
"Wonderful." He muttered. "Still want to talk to him."
"No threatening people in my house." He said, mostly joking in tone.
"Don't be boring, Ty." He said and walked away as Tyler laughed.
"Aunt Jenna. Sorry, putting things in Ty's room. Who's this?" He asked, looking to Alaric.
"This is Alaric Saltzman."
"Ah, hey." He said, smiling at him.
"I'm Gabriel. Jenna's nephew." He informed the man.
"Nice to meet you." He said easily.
"Where's everyone?" He asked Jenna.
"Elena's dancing, Jeremy? No clue. John? Don't care."
"I'll go see if I can disappoint John some more."
"Oh, stop. That's easy every thing disappoints him." Jenna smiled. "Just have fun." She said simply.
"This is why you're the best."
"Just don't get drunk." She added, and Gabriel rolled his eyes, heading away from him.
Gabriel caught Elena with Matt as they were heading towards the door. "Hey, have you seen Ty? I wanted to grab my things and sneak out." He said.
"No, sorry, you seen my mom?"
"No, sorry. How are you guys doing? I heard about Vickie, I'm sorry, Matt." He returned to the blonde boy, and he just nodded as they walked outside and Elena froze. Gabriel frowned and then did the same as it was Tyler making out with Matts mother.
Matt rushed, pulling Tyler away from her, Matt punched him, but Tyler quickly got the upper hand, hitting him repeatedly. As Elena yelled for help, Gabriel jumped in to drag Tyler off him.
"Hey, you wanna fight, come for me, Tyler." He told him, pushing him back away from Matt. Tyler threw a punch straight at his jaw, and he stumbled slightly but caught the next one twisting the wrist and threw him into the wall. "Calm down." He hissed quietly. "You're dads coming." He said in a soften voice. He felt Tyler force himself to calm down, and he stepped back.
"Sorry." He mumbled as Elena went to help Matt. Gabriels eyes flicked to where Alaric was stood ready to step in.
"I need my jacket, show me to your room?" He said, and Tyler nodded happily, just getting in before his father had a chance to say anything.
In the room, Tyler dropped onto his bed. "What's wrong with me?"
"Full moon?" He joked. "Next time you hit me, I'm hitting back, by the way." Gabriel warned him, hand moving over his jaw. "That shit hurt." He said as he grabbed his jacket.
"Oh yeah, the full moon, I'm a werewolf. That's totally it." Tyler said dryly, sitting up. "You need to work on the anger issues, though, Ty, seriously."
"… I know."
"And Matt's going to be pissed at you." He offered. "And you kinda deserve it, Ty. Why were you kissing his Mom?"
"I don't know."
"Right. If you need to talk, Ty. Come find me, but… Clean up. Stay safe. I'm going to head home. Okay?"
"Yeah, I know where to find you." He said as Gabriel picked up his helmet.
Gabriel got home and headed upstairs and saw Jeremy in Elenas room and paused. "Are you reading Elena's Journal?" He asked with a frown, and Jeremys head snapped up.
"I… she was lying to me."
"About?"
"They said Vicki died of an OD. But she was buried, and then I was talking to Elena and she couldn't look me in the eye. I needed to see what she knew."
"Which was?"
"It wasn't an OD." He said simply.
"Okay, no riddles, snoop. Just talk to me." He said. Jeremy frowned, and then slowly stood and just handed him the book. His eyes scanned the pages. "Vampires." He said lightly eyes on the pages, then slowly looked to Jeremy. "Is this real or her way of coping with someone else she knew dying?"
"You don't believe it?"
"She always wanted to be a writer." He said, passing it back to him.
"I'll find proof and show you." He said. "Don't tell Elena."
"She's my twin… but you're my little brother."
"Thank you."
"Don't… Don't let it take over, okay? Vampire obsessions can be all consuming."
"Okay." He said gently but didn't look at him.
Gabriel frowned his hand going to the teardrop shaped bottle of red, of blood, around his neck and the resin and wood sword beside it that had Vervain flowers encased in it, but then just sighed turning from the room.
~
"Gabe?" John asked, walking into the front room the next morning. The teen moved from his push-ups to his feet and looked to him. "What are you doing?"
"Morning routine?"
"You do a work out?"
"Just a basic one."
"Right… Why?"
"Done it since I was 13, every day. Hard routine to break, I guess. Why do you care?"
"Well, it's just us in the house, I thought we'd talk since you seem to know some things." He said simply. "I made coffee." He offered, holding the cup out. He frowned but took it and wrinkled his nose slightly but continued to drink it.
"So..?"
"Why do you want the journals?"
"You know why."
"Who told you?"
"The idiot Dad sent me to? Who died, by the way. Trained me first, though."
"How old were you?"
"Died when I was 14. I travelled after that."
"You could have come home."
"No." He said simply.
"You didn't use your card, how did you get things."
"Trades. You'd be amazed at the councils and Witches willing to pay or trade for someone to kill a vampire."
"You became a mercenary hunter?"
"I was a hunter who found a way to live doing it."
"Why didn't you call me?" Gabriel just stared at him, eyebrows raised. "What'd I do to make you hate me?"
"You're kind of a dick, John. You were the one who helped dad decide to send me away."
"Lovely." He said and sighed. "I wanted to introduce you to the council. Our council." He offered. "So they know who the next Gilbert in line will be. Would you like to come to the meeting?"
"Oh, fun. Yes, please." He nodded.
"Will you take -"
"Not taking the piercings out."
"Right." He sighed. "Get dressed." He said simply, and Gabriel gave a mock salute.
They got to the founders hall, and John greeted the two that were there. "This is Gabriel, you remember my nephew, Sheriff? Gabe, this is Damon Salvatore." He waved.
"Pleasure." Damon offered, holding out a hand, and Gabriel took it slightly amused.
"And you, Mr Salvatore."
"Oh, Damon, Mr Salvatore was my father."
"Damon." He nodded and dropped the hand, then looked the Sheriff Forbes. "It's good to see you again, Ma'am."
"You too, Gabriel." She said, then looked to John, confused.
"Gabriel is in the know." John said. "I thought it best if at least he is known to the council so when I'm not here, the Gilberts are still represented."
"You told him? I thought we all agreed that the kids…" She trailed off as Gabriel laughed lightly.
"Sheriff, I'm barely a kid now. You need people who know how to handle vampires, that's me. And it wasn't John or dad that told me. When I was away, my guardian there was attacked before I was there. He taught me what he knew. Unfortunately, in the next fight, he wasn't so successful. I was." Gabriel told her in a calm tone. "You don't mind me being here, do you? I have the experience and the knowledge."
"You have Vervain?" She asked, and he just pointed to the sword charm around his neck.
"I also drink it, just in case." He said pointedly, looking to Damon. "Do you?"
"We do, Damon supplies us."
"What in the vial?" Damon asked.
"It's some gothic 'blood' pact deal I have the one who gave me this one has one from me in return." He said lightly. "It's mostly aesthetics."
"Right." He said lightly.
"Good. On with the reason we're here." The Sheriff said softly. "There was a disturbance at the hospital blood bank last night; some of the supply was compromised."
"Compromised? You mean stolen?" Damon asked.
"We almost missed it. The inventory records were altered, but when the night manager was questioned, he had no recollection of changing them."
"Meaning that the vampire who stole the blood used mind control to hide the theft." John said, looking to Damon, who looked unimpressed at the pointed comment.
"I know what you meant."
"We wouldn't have noticed had John not alerted us to recent discrepancies in other hospital blood banks in the county."
"How lucky for us, we have John." Damon said in response to the Sheriff but was still looking at John."We're stepping up security at the hospital, giving the guard vervain to prevent this from happening again."
"Sheriff, may I offer a suggestion? Why don't Damon and I put our heads together? We can track down whoever is doing this." John offered. Gabriel looked surprised. "Truthfully, I can use the extra hands. Is that something you would be willing to do?"
"Well, of course, I mean if it'll help." Damon agreed.
"I think we could make a good team, don't you think, Damon?"
"John, whatever I can do to help keep this town safe; even if it means spending time with you."
"Wow, almost spoken like a Gilbert." Gabriel joked.
"Woah, insulting." Damon said, his smile shifting to more genuine looking to Gabriel.
"I'm a Gilbert." He reminded.
"Mhmm."
"Your brother is dating my sister."
"Well, Elena's a good one."
"Ouch. Get to know me before you stake me, killer."
"Oh, tough words, newbie."
"Not so new." He said as he got a text. "I… have three years of hunting experience. Gotta go. John. You owe me a training day. Wonderful to see you again, sheriff… Damon." He said, turning to head away.
"Where you going?" John questioned.
"I've been sent a gift. Need to go pick it up."
"You have a hunt?" John asked, surprised.
"I don't know yet. This one just likes me." He said, waving him off as he headed off. "That's the fun!" He called behind him.
"He gets a trade to hunt a vampire?" Damon asked John.
"I just found that out."
"That's an assassination." The Sheriff said lightly, frowning.
"He's just doing something more effectively than us." John corrected. "He's a good kid."
"Who's been caring for him, John?" The Sheriff asked softly.
"… I don't know." He said before heading to his car.
~
Gabriel looked at the bestiary and the journal, looking at the note telling him it would only be openable to the first to write in it. He pulled his phone out, hitting call.
You got my gift?
"I did. This is more than you usually send me. Our deal is over remember, I'm home."
I can still send you gifts. He said. Can't I? I was so sure we bonded. He said dramatically, and Gabe gave a small laugh.
"Fine, but what is it you want?"
You said you were in Virginia, and while I'm still a bit upset, you won't give me an address, I want you to keep an eye on a town if you're near it. Mystic Falls. It's an interesting town.
"Is it? What is it you want to know about?"
Just... anything interesting.
"If I see it, I'll pass it on. As long-"
As it's not you or yours, yes I know. He said dryly. It was my rule first.
"At least mine are -"
Don't start. Are you going to be going to school?
"I don't know."
You should. It's just one year. Education is good for you.
"Mhmm. Well, there is someone working there I want to keep an eye on."
There you go. Try and get that final year of school as your normalcy.
"Oh, I passed that so long ago."
Have fun, Angel. But not too much. He said before hanging up Gabriel put the phone away but was smiling at the books and turned towards the house again.

TMA OCs, bc my brain is running. So... Heres a first draft Art - heres likely the first of... at least three I have designed.
Statement of Cecelia Raven Magnus on...
On a father's betrayal.
Statement Begins.
I wasn't all that old that night. I think I was... newly 18. The collections of my father's books were finally coming back to bite him. Well, not him. An avatar of the Desolation came.
But that wasn't the thing that woke me; it was... arguing? Something. It seemed like something had been in my room. I was worried and, honestly, probably a little stupid, so I got up. I picked up and lit the candle by my bed. I still remember the surprise at how warm the night was when I stepped out. It was February; the nights were usually rather chilly. I followed the light steps; I assumed maybe it had been my father. There were times my father used to check on me, not as often as he had when I was young. Usually when he was going to end up in the office for days. But... I was lying to myself. Because those steps were too soft to be my father's.
The halls were so dark. More so than usual. I don't know why it was starting to make me... claustrophobic. But only a little. I called out to my father, and he called back but told me not to come closer. But it was timed so... badly. As he called me to stay, the person I thought was following appeared. This teenager, her eyes had this hatred, and I don't know, but the candle in my hand burnt faster in my hand; I barely noticed. Especially since her appearance made me scream and drop it. She hadn't been there before; I KNOW she hadn't been. But there she was. And now I could see everything perfectly. Father was at the other side of the hall, outside the library. The fire that quickly took our carpet runner lit up pretty well; he'd been arguing with a man.
I don't know who he was, but he must have wanted the book. Father held it so tightly. And the man seems distracted by the fire. And the girl seemed so pleased with it. Father killed that man. Didn't seem to take much. I don't even think he bled. His skin gave in like warm wax. The next thing I know, the girl was screaming. The fire was crawling over my skin. And... clothes were very flammable back then. I was so scared. I yelled for my father. A woman myself or not, I thought he'd help. It felt like a nightmare. I was dying. I was about to die. And his worry shifted to interest as I fell against a door that didn't exist.
The girl followed me. And the fire seemed to follow her. And I knew Father wasn't going to do anything.
So fear fell away. Betray and Anger won. The door opened behind me, and I dragged her in with me.
Turns out my curiosity and ability to just allow myself to treat it as a dream helped me survive.
What I found behind it. Well, they ate the girl. She got lost too fast.
So. I learnt my own way. A laugh became a friend. I was only there a decade or so.
Well. I say that. We travelled together for a while.
And while that delicious madness fed me. I also craved the destruction I could cause. The fire and the madness becoming one. I learnt fast you couldn't really separate the entities.
So I changed. I don't know how much of me is that teenager anymore. I'm rather sure that version of me died. The little Magnus, dead because of her father's inaction. I am curious. But not that curious to know what he told people of my disappearance. He always was good with words.
I always wondered if he said I ran away. I guess that at least wouldn't be far off the truth.

Tora Mikaelson; The lives and deaths

Summery: The lives of a Mikaelson are never easy. And the deaths tend to be just as harsh.
Word Count: 3101
Rating: General/Teen [Canon typical Violence and All]
A/N: I said I was gonna post this. This can absolutely be read as a One shot so, no cliffhanger.
If you can't tell, I have a fondness for Mikaelson characters because its fun and more history is developed for them. The next one won't be a Mikaelson,though, promise.
~~~~~~~~~
Tora and Elijah were found, more often then not, attached at the hip. Both annoyingly quite and quick from the moment the pair could move. Equally determined and helpful as they learned and grew. Both did their best to get Finn to join them. He rarely did. Their parents certainly didn't. They all but ignored them outside of necessity.
They did succeed at times to get small smiles and playful moments from their older brother. But as he hit around ten, he could barely look at Tora. She never knew what she did. It was her mother who explained.
"You look so much like your sister. Your hair and such, my sweet girl." She offered once, brushing hair from her face. "Finn misses your sister as much as we do." She said. "Don't take it personally. He cares for you just as much." It was after that that the girl tried to cut her hair. It was getting her too many comparisons to her dead sister. Even Mikael seemed to look at her with sorrow at times as she grew. Elijah was, as usual, the one to stop her. Worried about Mikaels reaction. He was not the calmest man at the best of times, and the action may not bring his best side out.
When Klaus was born, their father seemed hopeful, almost kind for a few years. Until he attempted to teach the boy to fight and hunt, then he immediately seemed to take a dislike to a child. Elijah and Tora began helping their little brother learn more. Tora with swords and Elijah with the hunting, each taking their own strengths. Not that any of the other men in the family liked to admit Tora was easily the best of the siblings with a blade.
Mikael doubled down on refusing to allow Rebekah to learn with comments on Toras 'misuse' of her skill. [Read; using her ability to fight to flirt with the neighbours.] Which she denied being the reason she fought with those from the neighbouring village, she simply enjoyed the challenge of fighting someone other than family, and the werewolves were more of a challenge.
She started to learn magic, learning early on she wasn't very strong. When she mentioned 'borrowing' magic from nature being tiring both her younger brother, Kol, and mother looked confused so she decidedly didn't mentioned it again and stuck to incredibly minimal magic, learning theory without fully taking to the practical.
At age 21, when Klaus turned 16, Tora and Mikaels generally calm father-daughter relationship became strained fast as she quickly took to challenge his reasons to hurt her brother and all but threw herself forward protecting her brother from his whip or blade when she could. He tended to pull back more when she, over Elijah, stepped in. He was always harsher on the brothers.
She began courting one of the werewolves, one of their neighbours, and eventually married him after they turned 26, after a year of courting. She was still often found around her family. Her husband, at times, joined them happily, slipping in to help with chores. And she would return the favour with his parents. Both more friends than anything but, with expectations, decided marrying was easier.
One of the days, they returned home to their father having Klaus with a sword to his throat, and she moved thoughtlessly grabbing the fallen sword and moving it to rest at her Father's throat. "Step Away from my brother." She said, anger shaking her voice at seeing her younger brother so close to tears and her father. Mikael seemed so angry and determined. She didn't trust him not to kill him in that moment.
Mikael carefully turned to look at her despite the blade at his throat. "You want to challenge me, my darling daughter?"
"I will do anything to get you away from him."
Mikael shifted from the blade standing once more, Tora kept her blade on him as she held out a hand to help Klaus up. Klaus hesitated, then took it, and Elijah pulled their brother to him just in time for Tora to block Mikael's harsh swing. She pushed his blade back, lashing back out at him not missing a beat in the mans challenge, silent in her moves, unlike Elijah, who was quick to quip during their fights.
"You coddle the boy like the child you could never have." Mikael snapped as he swung she looked at him in betrayal at the comment against her before she moved cutting his belt from his waist, and his anger seemed to double. "And you teach him your stupid little tricks." He snapped arms moving wide a moment as he looked at the belt and missed her move, slamming the handle of the sword into his wrist, throwing the sword from it. His eyes fell to his blade in surprise.
"Distractions. Father." She said, kicking his legs from under him, sword aimed at his throat. "They help you win against those who think themselves better than you." She said calmly. "You taught me that."
"You wouldn't kill me. You don't have the nerve. You're not a true warrior."
"How sure are you?" She asked as the tip of her blade pressed close.
"Tora!" Esther yelled in disbelief, but the word didn't register as the fighters were locked on each others stares.
"Sister... Step away." Elijahs voice came, calmer, and she turned quickly to her siblings, seeing fear and worry on their faces. She slowly lowered her blade. Mikael didn't spare a moment as he stood once more and slapped the woman hard enough to send her to the ground, and she stayed where she was, eyes on the floor as Mikael spoke.
"You're a good fighter. But if you Ever do that again. I will not go easy on you, you ungrateful -."
"Mikael. That's enough." Esther spoke, and the man backed away and turned to walk past his wife. Elijah was quickly at Tora's side.
"You have to stop picking fights with him." He said, and she gave wet laugh looking at him, face red and lips split.
"It's fine. I'll be okay. Better me than any of you."
Elijah frowned. "Come, let's get you cleaned up."
She did end up stepping into another fight with him, as much for training as anything else, but even so, as he said previously, he never held back. And while she gave as good as she got, she was still hesitant to draw blood.
Mikael had no such worry.
She had scattered cuts on her skin and tears in her dress, nowhere overly indecent. He went for a blow that could have all but killed her, seeming to have forgotten who he was fighting as she pulled away the blade caught over her face, slicing deep across her cheek and to her nose, barely missing her eyes. She cried out in pain dropping back.
Mikael seemed to snap from his anger, looking wide-eyed even dropping his sword as he came towards her, but she immediately backed away from him. The blood coated half her face, but it was the genuine Fear in her eyes that made him stop. She had been the last of his children that had never looked at him like that. Anger? Yes. But never fear, even during yelling and beatings, she never showed such obvious Fear.
"Elijah! Come help your sister to Ayana." He called making his voice even. Elijah, who had been doing chores, helping their parents and not being aware of what happened immediately ran to them at the call of his name and paused in horror.
"What happened?" He asked, rushing to her side.
"She learned what a real fight is like." Mikael said flatly as Tora clung to her brother as he helped her up barely, holding back at yelling at his father and simply helped his sister to Ayana so she could have her wounds seen to.
Her wounds were cleaned, an ointment was applied over them, and those that could be were wrapped in cloth. The witch allowed them a moment, and Tora all but fell into her brothers arms as tears finally poured from her glistening eyes. "He could have blinded me." She murmured. "What did we do? Why does he hate us?"
"Nothing. We did nothing." He said, running a hand through her hair. "You must be careful though, Tora. Father is... a ruthless man. We all ready knew this."
"But Elijah..."
"Be careful. He has obviously lost his hesitance with you."
"Perhaps I no longer remind him of Her." Elijah didn't respond simply holding her as she slowly relaxed.
"Let's return you home. Your husband will be worried." He said.
She sighed but nodded, pulling from the embrace. "How do I look?"
"As if you went against an army thinking you could win."
She gave a soft laugh. "Well... That's how I feel so. Fair enough."
"You're fine, sister. You're simply in need of time and rest." He said simply. "Ayana's work never fails."
She smiled slightly and winced as it pulled at the still red wound slitting it slightly once more, a small line of blood slipping from it. "Okay, home. Let's hope my husband isn't too mad that I got into a fight again."
"You're always in fights." Elijah said simply as they headed out both thanking Ayana again as they moved past her as they left, and she simply waved them off.
It was a while later when their youngest brother, Henrik, died. The next night, she stayed with her family to grieve the boy. Mikael gave them wine.
Then he killed them all. Driving a sword through their chest and forced them to drink blood.
And that was the beginning of something completely new for their family. The last night as humans. Their life dragged from them against their will, without even the illusion of choice, just simple determination and force from their father.
The first thing she noticed was the feeling of power. Of magic. Suddenly understanding why Kol and Esther were so confused at her statements when they were younger. If this was how they'd felt, the idea of drawing from the earth or others would seem... unnecessary and confusing. Then, the weaknesses of what they had begun seemed to kick in.
The sun trapped the siblings in doors for weeks before their mother figured out how to combat it. Rings. They all had one lapis lazuli in a simple gold signet type ring.
When she tried to see her husband, he simply refused to let her in, and she couldn't enter.
The others seemed to take the lead, realising that the houses 'protected' them. Not that they were dangerous. Or she didn't think so. Not until they were.
The need for blood overwhelmed them all one by one. Rebekah was the first to give in. Kol was a quick second. The eldest three held off better. Klaus, though, when he gave in. Killed eight men and found himself turning to a beast.
Revealing an affair of their mother many years before. It sent Mikael into a rage. Forcing Esther to bind their brother's wolf side. And she shunned him.
But it wasn't enough for Mikael. He took out the pack, killing almost all of them.
Despite the abandonment, Tora cried when she found her partner in the bodies of those he slayed. Their father then one upped his betrayal by killing Esther.
The majority of their village had already fled when Tora returned, joining Elijah, Klaus, and Rebekah, burying their mother and swearing an oath. From their mother and now theirs. One that will continue to follow them.
Always and Forever.
Mikael came back. Intent on killing Niklaus and seemingly whoever was in his way. So they ran.
~
It took them a year to get away from his searching. All of them, together. They ended up in southern france.
On one of their feeds, they'd took out a carriage, a man not much different in age then themselves survived. And amusingly convinced them to spare him. Despite the technical draw of the vote. It was decided Elijahs and Tora's vote was classed as one long before they became creatures of the night and blood.
So, they adorned the clothes of the nobleman and women, and Lucien guided them into the castle, giving them reason and, in Klaus's case? Friendship.
Tora kept quite, and to one side, most of her hobbies and pass times had been taken as too 'masculine' for her, and as much as she despised that, she understood to not comment in public.
Elijah allowed her to drag him back outside, going over sports and games together in the evening when others were avoiding the area.
Though over the year, Tristan came to find out and was rather unimpressed at the idea of a 'lady' having such skills.
"Is a lady not allowed to protect herself, Lord Tristan."
"A Lady should have a lord around to do so, Lady Tora."
"More of my siblings are younger than me than older. I will not have them protecting me. I am older. I can help protect them."
"Is that how you got that horrendous scar? Believeing that You can protect them." She immediately straightened any humour immediately disappearing at the reminder of the mark. "It's unfortunate, you'd be so pretty without it. It's likely what stops you marrying."
"I was married. He's dead." She said calmly. "And you do Not get to claim anything about me until you are able to best me in battle yourself. My lord." She said with a mock bow and sarcasm dripping from the title. Elijah closed his eyes with a silent sigh as Tristan was glaring at her. She smiled sweetly at him. "I believe I'll take my leave, brother. Goodnight, Elijah."
"Goodnight." He said easily and watched Tristan, who watched her leave, but when the man coughed lightly. "Lord Tristan. Please, do not attempt to follow her. Allow her to calm. It wasn't long before we joined you that she lost him. She can be... short at times as he is brought up."
"I noticed." He said calmly. "Perhaps you should remind her of her manners." Tristan told him. "A pretty face is negated by ugly words."
"You just told her she Wasn't pretty." Elijah said flatly.
"My apologies, are you so worried about your little sister?"
"We were both born together. Twins."
"And I assume you were born first."
"Mother told us I came second. Despite me being the one that was expected."
"Well, of course they expected a boy. They're stronger and will continue the line." Elijah barely held back a look of distaste and simply gave the man a plastic smile.
~
They found out their blood was able to heal and turned others to be like themselves due to Lucien.
The poor man had been tortured, healed, and killed all in the same day. He then turned. Feeding on a family in the castle.
Aurora wasn't far behind him. Although she took her life and change into her own hands. Between the new two, Kol and Klaus's blood lusts, word spread of them and Father was coming. So, they ran.
They ended up in a lovely place in Italy and settled their for about a hundred years. Only for it to end as Rebekah fell for a man who was part of a group of hunters that wished to kill them. But the siblings didn't seem to believe the man knew they were also those that the five wished dead.
But they did. And they found this out with a silver dagger to the heart. It didn't work on Klaus, luckily enough. Though, it also gave Klaus the exact weapon he began to use against them. Finn was never woken from his magical sleep.
Tora was unsure how to take it. She and Finn never truly got close due to her being too much of a reminder of their eldest sister. But she didn't fully believe he deserved to have his life taken from him.
They never got to stay anywhere else as long for another 600 years when they found themself in a french colony, New Orleans, in 1713.
She watched as Elijah fell for a woman happy once more. Rebekah became fond of a man herself, but Klaus, as usual, ended up killing the man. He was the son of the man who was currently hosting them, so they ended up joining the funeral party, which was where Klaus met Marcellus. Then they all but took the child in giving the family a new member.
Rebekah and Marcel fell in love after the boy grew up. And, in response, Klaus daggered Rebekah. For 52 years. After giving Marcel the option of turning or undagger her.
In 1919, after all the happiness, them all finally happy. Rebekah and Marcel together. Klaus was happy and comfortable. Elijah was even relaxed. He and Tora were both simply taking joy in seeing their younger siblings happy.
Then Mikael appeared and he began to burn it down around them.
As Elijah got Rebekah and Klaus from the theatre, Tora held back, fighting off their father. Hoping to get Marcel from where he'd been tied.
"You do Not wish to fight me, daughter."
"I just want my friend back, father." She said. "Just let me take him and leave?" She all but plead. "Father, please."
"No." He said simply and stepped towards Marcel to feed from him. Tora threw herself forward as Marcel cried out in pain.
"Leave him be." She growled out, throwing him away from them. He dropped his stake, and they moved in time they grabbed it in time, and the wood split in half, and the half in Mikaels hand drove through her chest.
"Father..." She breathed out as tears fell in pain.
Mikael seemed upset himself. She heard Elijah call her name, just as the stake drove itself her heart. Fire burst around the stake, and the scream dragged itself from her throat.
Both Mikael and Elijah watched. Mikael; in sadness, that became blank, and Elijah in sorrow almost feeling the flames himself as his twin died. His eyes locked on Mikael as the man took the last of the stake from his dead childs hand before it could burn and he looked to his son whose eyes filled with a strength of hatred he hadn't seen. Even protecting their brother.
He was on his feet and headed towards Elijah, and his son ran.
Mikael followed.
A/N: Last chapter of this. May do little fill in one shot things but this is the end of this.
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They're here." Klaus said opening Marquez bedroom door. He paused as he saw Marquez pouring a concoction into a glass vial. "What's that?"
"Spell. Magic." He said simply as he sealed it. "Want the version of Aurora me and Hope met. This brings the soul of the version I knew into her current body. All the memories, none of the chasing."
"Hmm... you want Aurora to have twenty years of extra information?"
Marquez shrugged. "I guess so."
"Not Tristan?"
"Tristan was dead."
"Ah. Well, shall we?" He waved to the door, and he nodded following him.
They entered to courtyard to Tristan and Lucien making vague comments at each other. "Lovely. We're all getting along!"
"Like a fuse and a match!" Lucien said and looked at Marques briefly before dismissing him.
"I take it Aurora is on her way?" Klaus asked.
At the sound of her name, she entered wearing a dark purple vintage, dress smiling brightly. Marques didn't stop the smile. "I'm sorry I'm late. Just freshening up. I did want to look pretty." She said and spun casually to show off the dress as she stopped at the table. Then she looked to Lucien, who looked at her starstuck. "Well, well. If it isn't my old friend Lucien."
Lucien stood fixing his jacket as she moved towards him. "Hello, Aurora. It's been ages. You look..."
"You look ravishing." Klaus cut in, taking her hand and kissing it. She smiled as him as Tristan and Lucien looked ready to start a fight.
"Welcome to our home!" Elijah spoke, descending the stairs. Marquez grabbed a drink from the table behind them. "I do wish it was under better circumstances. We all face a common threat; a prophecy warning that my siblings and I would all fall within a year." He paused, dramatic as any Mikaelson. "I fear there's already been some attempts on my sister."
"It was a precaution. And all was called off when we realised it was... unnecessary." Tristan said calmly, looking to Marquez, who just took a drink to hide his smile. "And then we protected her from the other threat that attempted to take her." He said. "The Strix are here to protect you, and while my main worry is, of course, yourself. Rebekah is just as important to us to keep safe." Aurora barely held back a pout at the pointed look at her.
"I see. So you understand we need to unite to prevent the prophecy from coming to pass. And, since any alliance is impossible without honesty..." Elijah said, exchanging a look with Klaus. "Let us begin this evening's proceedings by formally acknowledging your clandestine alliance." He said, motioning between Tristan and Lucien. Both looked uncomfortable.
"Now gentleman, before -" Lucien started, but Elijah cut him off.
"Shh, shh, shh, shh. Lucien, please. Let's not ruin the dinner before it begins."
"And, do try to bear in mind, we expect an honest and productive negotiation this evening!"
"Do I get an introduction to the new member?" Aurora asked casually.
"Marquez." They said holding out a hand to her. She took it, and he whispered a spell slightly, passing on a memory he had with her.
"What was that?"
"We've met. Wanna catch back up?" He asked and held up the spell jar to her. She looked at it then to him suspiciously. "Having you understand makes it easier for me to keep you and Tristan safe. And understand some of the actions you may take make things worse for Him." She glared and grabbed the jar, downing it even as Lucien went to stop her. Tristan also looked unsure.
She let out a gasp glass jar dropping to the ground, and Marquez moved, catching her arms as the phantom pain of her death hit for a second. She looked at him and slowly smiled. "Mar. That was an Awful idea."
"Was it?" He asked with a lopsided smile.
"Ugh. That's not fair, Marquez. You made it so I can't kill them."
"Yep. But now you and Tristan get to Live." He said defended.
She smiled and turned to Klaus. "Love. You may want to send someone to Luciens apartment your lovely Cami is there."
"Send the address to Marcel. We're having dinner." Marquez said calmly as Lucien turned pale. Klaus looked worried and was pulling his phone out, leaving the room.
"I love a scheming Mikaelson." She said. "Unless it's Elijah." Aurora joked before looking past him to Tristan, and her eyes went teary. "After everything you and your friends told me. You like him too." She looked back to Marquez.
"Yeah, well I'm an idiot." He said.
"Well. We all have our issues." She hummed, and they headed to the table.
"Tell me about it. But hey. We're doing our best."
"You should have let her break the sirelines."
"I like Jackson. And Elijah and Nik are family. So... No."
"Ugh. Fine." She mock sighed. "How's Hope?"
"With her mom." He said as they sat down.
The other men slowly joined. "Aw, I'm happy she gets her back." Aurora said with a smile.
"We all are." He said softly.
"Mhmm, I am so sorry about the sins of the father thing we had going on for a while."
"She's over it. Kinda happens when someone stands in front of a gods weapon and dies for you."
"Hmm. That easy?"
"I'm not pulling your soul from hell again, Aurora. Do not die. This only worked because this you wasn't killed with the spear." He said as Klaus finally sat glaring at Lucien.
"Perhaps, I should -" Lucien said calmly.
"Sit down." Marquez said simply.
"Oh! Bite him. He can't run then." Aurora said casually.
"Aurora..." Lucien said, looking at her upset, betrayed.
"Sorry. But you would let my brother die."
"Rory -"
"You didn't trust me either, Tristan." She said before the man could continue. "But Lucien can and will simply Kill Elijah. Not that I blame him. But unfortunately, his life is connected to yours."
"And he's my uncle." Marquez spoke up casually, picking up wine. "So. Either way."
"Yes, of course. Marquez is a friend. I promised to stop trying to kill his family."
"Thank you, Rory." He said with a smile, and Tristan raised an eyebrow.
"Tell me you and my sister never..."
"Oh no. Never. She tried to kill me... twice?"
"Mhmm. You bit me once as well." She said easily. "Horrid venom."
"I cured you." He shrugged.
"And I never succeeded."
"Exactly. So. Friends."
"This wasn't how I expected this dinner to go." Klaus said casually.
"I'm aware. It was supposed to be you and Elijah threatening us, correct? A little torture?" She said. "Then again, that time I had Rebekah... In a coffin at the bottom of the ocean. So maybe it wasn't as nice a dinner because of that." She said in an innocent tone, looking to Klaus, who looked horrified.
"That's what you had planned for her?"
"Well, Tristan used this nasty little stake with a curse attached ... I just added a step. It was rather clever. I had latitude, Tristan had the longitude. So, you couldn't kill us. But then you betrayed me. So I made a move that broke us. So I won't do that again."
"A Move? You compelled someone to... I'm leaving it alone." Marquez said and waved it off.
"Who?" Klaus asked him.
"No one. Since, I won't do it again."
Klaus pulled his phone out, getting a text. "Cami's with family." He said simply.
"Tristan, your Strix-" Marquez started.
"Ours darling." Tristan cut Marquez off. "You're a Strix, too."
"Excuse me?" Klaus asked.
"He did kill Aya, to be initiated." Tristan said easily. "Though I think he was simply trying to show off. Barely touched her and won. I'd hate to be against him." Marquez smiled and looked at the plate in front of them.
"Aya lost to a child?" Lucien asked. "He's barely been a vampire long!" He said, throwing a hand out. Marquez grabbed it, eyes changed, and his teeth sharpened, and he bit down harshly.
Lucien screamed in pain, and he let go. Black lines radiated out from the mark, and it his skin slowly shifted from red to black. Frost bitten skin followed the black veins across his skin.
"Not just a vampire, friend." They said, wiping blood from the edge of his lips. "I'm not born from a sire line. And hey, I'm a Grim. Omen of death. Made to balance my cousin by fates law. I don't lose fights to the death. I'm guided by them." He hummed. "I'll see you on the other side." He hummed and looked to him. "... Now you can leave." He said. Lucien moved to stand and just stumbled back all but falling.
"How long does he have?" Aurora asked.
"5... 4... 3... 2-"
Hope appeared dragging his heart of his chest. "Stop playing with your food." She said, throwing the heart to the side.
"But it's Fun."
"You're so your father." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Thanks." He grinned.
"Not... You know what. I like Uncle Kol. I'll leave it before you decide to insult me. Aurora. How are you?"
"Better for being alive."
"I'm glad. Especially now the prophecy is almost over and done with. Unless you're planning on messing with us?"
"Course not, little Mikaelson. As long as your cousin doesn't flirt with my brother to obviously in front of me."
"I don't know if Marquez knows proper boundaries." Hope said sitting and stole her cousins wine glass.
"Mhmm... You know what, I could be so much worse, and I don't get enough recognition for that. I just helped save your step dad, be nice."
"And the rest. But you did it as much to save him." She waved to Tristan.
"Eh. Cami, Jackson -"
"Davina." Hope added.
"And those poor witches." Aurora hummed. "Oh, you're stopping the Hollow. Clever."
Hope smiled lightly. "Saved you too." She returned.
"The hollow?" Klaus asked.
"The spirit of some witch that died forever ago." Aurora said casually.
"She's what tore our family apart." Hope said casually. "Possessed... A lot of people had split up."
"The four of you literally couldn't be in the same town. Not that it stopped you." Marquez said easily.
"...Dad visiting Elijah."
"My Dad was Pissed. Half the time, it was just as he bought mom flowers. They just... died."
"Yeah, I remember it being talked about." She hummed.
"Why would I allow that to happen?" Elijah asked, confused.
"Oh, you compelled away always and forever. So... the family and then you ran off to france." Marquez hummed.
"... Right."
"You thought you wouldn't stay away. Which, no one else understands, but you, Vincent, and Marcel." He shrugged.
"Marcel?"
"Yeah, he had an upgrade. Which he no longer can. So... Can't do that again."
"Thank goodness." Hope murmured.
"Anyway. So most of the threat now." Marquez looked to Tristan. "Is the Strix. How good is your control of them and the witches Aya had?"
"Perfect. No one will stand against me." He said easily.
"Good. So they can leave."
"We're staying. Until the year is over at least." He said calmly. "As you said, between yourself, Marcel and I. We can figure out how we figure things out to make sure we can keep them all safe." He smiled.
"We can protect ourselves, Tristan." Elijah drawled.
"Well, it's not just your life, Elijah." He said calmly. "There's many of us that want to be safe. So. Yes, we are staying here. Until we're sure you're ... all safe." He reasoned simply.
"Awful. Tell me you'll leave after. I don't think I like you." Hope said bluntly. Tristans eyes jumped to her eyesbrows raised in surprised.
"Excuse me?"
"You're kind of an ass." She said casually. "And the whole lock your sister up and getting her commited thing? Yikes."
"You don't know me." He said simply. "Aurora, my love, you didn't plant these awful thoughts about me, did you?"
"Of course not, Tristan." She said easily. "They simply decided they didn't like you. They didn't like me at first either, though."
"Hmm. Well, Marquez seems to like me."
"Depends which parts of our interactions you look at, darlin'. There's still the threat's."
"But there's also the dates and Sex."
"My uncles... are right here. Please don't say that outloud." He said, moving a hand to rub his eyes.
"Of course, how improper of me. Apologies." He said amused.
"And I can't kill him?" - "You should let me kill him." Elijah and Hope spoke in time.
"Okay. Dinners over." Marquez said and stood.
"Oh. Cool. Your mom wants to see you." Hope said and grabbed his arm, pulling him towards the door. "She and Kol didn't think you'd come alone."
His eyes widened as he was pulled from the compound. "Hope, what the hell?" He muttered.
~
Hope pushed Marquez towards Davina and Kol. Marquez suddenly looked smaller. "Hey." He said lightly.
Kol raised an eyebrow, amused at the change from earlier. While Davina smiled lightly. "Hi." She said lightly. "So, you're my... our son?" She asked lightly, and he nodded silently. "So, why have you been avoiding me? Am I not a good mom?"
Marquez immediately looked at her properly. "What? No. You're great. I'm just a mess." He told. "And I mean, we're the Same age." He reminded her. "That's not awkward for you?"
"... A little." She nodded. "Since I didn't know I wanted a child until I heard I apparently had one. And you stopped them from stopping ME bringing Kol back."
"That's my Dad. No one's ruining that. Even Uncle Nik." He muttered.
"Oh, so it was Klaus who was going to -"
"Please don't start family drama." He mumbled. "Nik was going to do something shitty, but it was to save her." He said, turning to look where Hayley was holding baby Hope. "And Uncle Niks was never exactly rational. But he did what he thought was best." He explained as he turned back to them. "You'd still have got dad back. You'd of figured out one of the... worst and most impressive spells to do so, bring Finn back by accident. And Rebekah would have been the reason you found the start of the spell. Because Aunt Bekah did everything she could to keep her word. Uncle Elijah was dealling with... alot. And helping look after Hope. Because of the ... everything that happened. They wanted Dad back, too." He told her calmly. "So please don't blame them." He said softly. "And... never make me be the sentimental one again." He grimaced lightly.
"So... how come I get you being snipey and Davina gets you being all sweet and nice." Kol asked.
"You were being all judgy. Immediately. You quite literally yelled at me." He said flatly. Davina hit his arm.
"Well, you did sleep with Tristan." He said, shrugging. "I was worried."
"Okay, who's Tristan?" Davina asked.
"Elijah's first turn." Kol told her. "Leader of the Strix. Who are a bunch of power-hungry vampires. All dramatics, blood, and such." Kol explained.
"And you slept with him?" Davina asked.
"He took me to dinner first." He shrugged, looking away for a moment, cheeks flushing slightly.
"You like him?" She asked uncomfortably.
"Kinda yeah. Don't know him much, though." He shrugged. "But we're... connected." He said casually, shrugging.
"Literally." Kol said, catching his wrist and pulling it into view.
"Dad -" Marquez groaned
"What the hell?" Davina said with a frown. "A tattoo?"
"No. It's a Mark. Grims get a connection to a ward. A family, group, place, or a person." Kol explained.
"I'm linked to Tristan. I'm marked to protect him... More than likely, a link towards Aurora as well, because she's so important to him. Probably, why I liked her so much. Despite the fight, she was a... not quite a friend."
"Great. Two crazy people who hate our family." Kol said, letting go of his wrist.
"Elijah. They hate Elijah. And for fair reasons. Tristan Hates Klaus because of the affair with Aurora. They don't care about you or Finn outside of the fact you're a Mikaelson. Rebekah is Aurora's friend... mostly."
Davina gave a half laugh. "Well, of course, Elijah and Klaus are the issue."
"Elijah's not that bad. He just has moments when he's trying to help family." He shrugged. "But can we... not do the debating family thing?" They asked. "There's meant to be a meeting, Strix, Marcel, and Elijah. Apparently, I'm meant to be there."
"You're spending the day here." Kol said decisively. Marquez raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms as an amused look fell over his face. "Okay, I know that look. That's my thing. It's a family day. You'll make your mother happy if you stick around." He said.
"Please? It'd be nice to get to know you." She said.
"... That's not fair." He muttered, then looked to her and bit his lip slightly. "Okay. that works." He said softly.
~
Aurora greeted Marquez and Hope as they were at Rousseau's for breakfast. "Hello, mini Mikaelsons."
"Aurora. This feels familiar." Marquez returned. Hope smiled. greeting her as well.
"You know, it's nice to skip the torture this time around. Thank you for that."
"Glad to help." Hope told her. "Where's your brother?" She asked curiously.
"Probably with the Strix. Or looking for your cousin. If I had to hear him mentioned again. I was going to pour bleach into my ears."
Marquez smiled without thought and then bit his lower lip for a moment to stop it. "I doubt it was that much."
"It was enough. My brother's never interested in someone. So, more than twice is too much."
"Awh, cute. Your brother has a crush." Hope joked.
"He just might." Aurora said calmly.
"Oh, don't make me seem so sentimental, sister." Tristan said. Aurora rolled her eyes, moving in as he motioned from her to and sat down. "You didn't come to our meeting." He said, looking to Marquez.
"Family." He shrugged.
"Well, next time. Do let us know. I imagine you'd do better making Elijah Accept help."
Hope and Marquez both laughed. "Elijah barely accepts help from family." Hope said simply.
"You'd have had to angle it as helping the family, not Him."
"Yes, that was Marcels way of reasoning it." He hummed.
"He knows the family pretty well, Tristan." Marquez told him.
"Yes, raised by Niklaus, not always exactly comforting."
"Excuse me?" Hope drawled.
He paused as he looked to her. "I'm sure you're a lovely girl, but Niklaus Mikaelson. The Man I knew? Wasn't exactly the best of men."
"And you are?"
"Never said that. Honestly, I never thought Kol was capable of raising a well-adjusted child. So, I'll allow the fact that they were able to change."
Hope laughed again as Marquez smiled. "Something I've never been called in my life." He drawled.
"Well-adjusted to be able to give our headteacher a heart attack." Hope responded.
"Not just Ric." He smirked.
"He just loved making peoples lives hell."
"They hated vampires and our family. They only liked us because we're powerful." He hummed, eye's shifting red whites turning black as veins bled down his face as soon as they appeared. She returned the look, hers going orange in response.
"Stop that." She sighed.
"Wolf issue, Hope." He grinned.
"Tribrid issue."
"Then why don't I have it? Yet Nik and your mother do?"
"... Fine. Wolf issue."
"Thank you." He nodded and looked to the de Martel siblings. "So, what are you two planning today?"
"Nothing to specific."
"I was going to bother one of you to show me around. Nik didn't do the best job." Aurora said simply.
"I'm good to play tour guide." Hope said easily.
"Then I can steal your cousin?" Tristan spoke, and they all looked at him.
"It's not stealing if he wants to go with you." Hope said. "And please... find somewhere between the whole old style of asking permission from an older family member and the expectation he's free." She drawled. "Uncle Kol already doesn't like you. Neither does Uncle Elijah. ...does anyone in our family?"
"Elijah and Finn used to." He said.
"Finn is Not a selling point." Marquez told him.
"He tried to kill me." Hope informed him.
"Anyway. Where are you taking me?" Marquez asked curiously.
"Are you willing to compromise this time? Let me take you to a tailor?"
"... Hm. You don't expect me to pay for something I'm wearing for you, do you?"
"Of course not."
"Fine. This once." He said playfully. Tristan smiled slightly, holding a hand out to him.
"Wonderful, shall we?"
Marquez looked at the hand, then up to him, and took it. "We shall." He said, then looked to Hope. "Have fun... Tell Uncle Eli or Dad I'm out if you see them first."
"Your dads going to be upset!" She told him as they headed away.
"Eh. He can deal with it." He returned over his shoulder.

[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 4]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marquez stopped as he came down to the courtyard to see Elijah and Klaus standing by a dead body. "If it makes you feel any better, we can kill Aurora together! Then neither of us need play her little mind games ever again, hmm?" Klaus was saying and began to leave.
"What's going on?" Marquez asked confused.
"Aurora." Elijah said bluntly. "Be safe. Perhaps visit your father." He said to Marquez before he followed after Klaus. They sighed and looked to the body for a moment, then just shook his head and headed out.
They headed straight to Rousseau's, slipping into a booth and pulled a laptop out as they had a drink and a plate of food by them.
"Marquez, how perfect to see you here." Tristan said and sat opposite him and raised an eyebrow. "Eyeliner?"
"I'm not actually a suit guy." He hummed. "Get with the times, darlin'. Guy's look good in eyeliner and I'm hot." He said with a flirtatious grin and a wink before looking back to the laptop. "I see you're joining me?"
"I hope you don't mind." He said. "Doing anything interesting."
"... No?" He said as he closed the tabs then the laptop itself before he moved it to the side, to pull his food in front of him. "So. What is it you want from me, honey?"
"Do you always use pet names rather than peoples names?"
"Just for the ones that annoyed me." He shrugged. "And the ones I find attractive."
Tristan looked amused, raising an eyebrow. "So which am I?"
"What do you mean?"
"Are you attracted to me, or do I annoy you?"
"Which do you think, sweetheart?"
Tristan gave a half smile. "I'm not sure your family would approve of you flirting with me."
"I'm pretty sure Uncle Eli didn't approve of me killing his ex-girlfriend. So..." He raised his hands in a shrug. "But I'm not exactly ever going to be the golden child."
"Does Niklaus know you're one of us?"
"Really? You want me to have a pissed Hybrid ranting at me daily?" He asked, picking up his fork eating just in time for Tristan to be served his own food. "Besides, why'd you want me as a Strix?"
"You were either powerful or just a brat. So we either got a powerful Ally or-"
"You got me killed and hurt your sire by making him watch?"
"Well... It wouldn't have been the worst reaction."
"Yes, well. I took out your oldest member. Regret it?"
"A bit. The lecture was honestly more annoying than her death."
"Wow. Harsh, darlin'."
"I assume you have your reasons for wanting her dead specifically."
"She was going to leave you in a crate to drown. And then try and kill my family." They said casually. "Got a lot of your merry band killed."
Tristans hand had paused halfway to his mouth and lowered it. "... You're not lying." He said slowly.
"Very powerful witches in my family. One wanted a few things fixed. I was part of that plan, apparently. Which... fair. I'm a determined bastard in my own right." He hummed. "I'm sure you understand the want to protect family."
"That I do. So, you're from the future?"
"Alternate future... Timelines and such. I'll get into more sciencey stuff another time. I'm a tech guy, not chronologist or physicist in general." He hummed. "I plan on making sure you don't get trapped, if that's a worry?"
"Very nice of you."
"Mhmm. If you try to capture Rebekah or any other sibling, I'll kill you myself." He said with a sweet smile. "And touch Davina -"
"Ah. Your Kol's boy." He said. "No, wonder you're so..."
"Chaotic?"
"Reckless."
"Well. I can't die. So, why not?"
"You mother can."
"And I will pull her soul back, and I'll send you to an endless cycle of fire and death. And no promises of anyone you care for surviving." He hummed, picking up his coffee. "And honestly. I want everything to go smoothly. I like Aurora. And she'd prefer you to live. So..." He shrugged as he took a drink and raised an eyebrow.
"I believe we can come to an arrangement." He said, and they smiled at him.
"Perfect. I thought so. I really do look forward to working together to make sure everyone survives... Mostly." Tristan looked intrigued about to ask when a jar with a heart in it was placed between them.
Marquez didn't even look up, just moving to the back of the booth. Elijah slipped into the seat.
"Elijah. I didn't realize we had a meeting on the books today." Tristan drawled.
"We don't. Unfortunately, your assistant refused to accommodate me." Elijah said, tapping the jar and pushing it to him once more.
Tristan stared at it for a moment, looking annoyed and raised a napkin to wipe his face before he dropped it on to his plate. "What would you like to discuss?"
"Recent events would suggest you've been less than forthcoming about threats facing my family."
"A threat to you is a threat to me." He said confused, his heart suddenly racing.
"Naughtly. Little. Liar." Elijah said, eyes narrowed.
"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about." Tristan said.
"Oh, I'm quite certain you do know precisely what I'm talking about, Tristan. I can hear that heart of yours racing away. You see, even as we speak, I suspect Niklaus is with your sister." Elijah said and pulled a bloodstained note out of his jacket. He placed it on the table between them. "I don't have to tell you what a volatile combination the two of them are."
"And you think I'm hiding her?"
"Where you go, Aurora follows."
"It's true, on her good days. Years ago, Rory fell into one of her dark periods. It's been a long one and has yet to lift. I saw she got the care she needed."
"I don't care. Where is she?"
A slow smile pulled onto Tristans lips. "Are you that afraid of what my sister might have to say to your brother?" He asked him.
"Your sister has a habit of cultivating misfortune."
"I can't disagree. And, as it happens, I don't know her current whereabouts, but I know she can't be here. I'm the first person she'd come to."
"I'm not so sure." He hummed and looked to Marquez. "Will you be leaving with me?"
Marquez looked from him to Tristan. "I'll... meet you at home?" He said simply. Elijah raised an eyebrow but nodded and headed away.
"You're staying with me today?"
"I'm bored. You're cute."
Tristan raised an eyebrow. "You're after something."
"Attention?" They hummed. "You kinda made me your problem."
"Is that right?"
"Mhmm." He shrugged. "I do this thing you see. When people decide they're like a friend or Something. I go smother mode until they kick me to the side, and I can go back to being my normal loner self. And you approached me first. You danced with me. And you dragged me into this... wonderful little cult. So. Your problem. Especially since you're doing the working with me thing." He said playfully.
"Hmm. I see. And if I have places to be?"
"I mean. Lucien is... not someone you actually wanna work with, no kidnapping my aunt and... Aurora's with uncle Nik so. What is it you have to do? I can help."
"Who says I'm working with Lucien?"
"Your sky rocketing heart rate?"
"Maybe I just find your scheming side attractive."
"Possible. But untrue. But if you want to do something about the attraction... I'm also down."
"Very forward of you."
"You've met my family. We don't really do shy."
"Of course. ...Allow me to get you dinner first?"
Marques seemed taken about pausing for a moment. "... Okay." He said slowly.
"Wonderful. I hear there's a wonderful exhibit not far from here." He said, picking up Auroras note as he stood and held out a hand. "Join me?"
Marquez grabbed his bag and slipped his laptop away, and took the hand as he stood. "Are you wine and dining me, Tristan?"
"I guess that is the plan, yes. Though you aren't dressed for places I'd usually go for, but, I'm sure we can compromise or go to a tailor." He hummed.
"Compromise." They told him easily.
~
Marquez was woken by teeth drawing over his throat, and they hummed, tilting their head to one side. "May I?" Tristan asked against their skin. They hesitated a moment before breathing out an agreement and teeth bit down as Tristan fed with a soft groan. Marquez moved a hand into his hair.
Tristan slowly stopped, and blood coated lips descended on his, and he moaned softly tongue darting out to taste his own blood. Tristan slowly pulled back, looking down at him, eyes trailed from his lips to the healed but blood striped throat.
"And you called me insatiable." Marquez murmured. "You woke me with your teeth, really?"
"It seemed the least invasive way, I had other thoughts." He hummed, one of his hands inched down their side until they stopped at their hip. "And you waking now means we can continue with that once more before your family hunts you down." He hummed. "Hmm. They may be a little busy." Marquez hummed and flipped their positions. He moved a hand, tracing his throat softly. "May I?" He asked gently, mimicking his question.
Tristan seemed caught off guard at the question. "Yes." He returned anyway and breathed out a soft moan as teeth pierced his skin.
Marquez hummed happily, tongue running over the small trail of blood as he pulled back and pressed kissed down his chest. Tristan flipped their positions again. "You're not in control here, darling." Tristan told him.
He just grinned and reached up to cup his face. "You sure?" Tristan raised an eyebrow before he caught both his wrists and pinned them to the bed with one hand.
"You may be faster, but in pure strength. I out power you." He said. His other hand was on their jaw and drew him into a biting kiss and trailed the hand to squeeze lightly at his throat. A small whine fell from Marquez's lips, and he felt the smug smile against his lips. Before either they could continue a phone rang. They both sighed, and Tristan pulled away. "Perhaps our timing was less ideal than I believed." He drawled.
"Yeah, got that." He murmured and looked at the date. "Then it's also thanksgiving." He muttered and sighed before he answered the phone as he stood casually, pulling his jeans on from the night before. "Hey, Uncle Eli. What's up?"
`Well, I thought I'd check where you were since you were meant to come home, and you aren't with your parents.`
"I am... on my way home now." He got out as he searched for his top.
`Right. Of course. I assume you're joining myself and Niklaus for thanksgiving?`
"If you're doing something, sure."
`Wonderful. Make sure Tristan is aware of his invite as well. We're having dinner.` The call cut out before he could respond.
"... I'm assuming your sister and Lucien were also invited, and you heard that." Marquez said as he turned, pulling his t-shirt on to see Tristan just fixing his tie.
"More than likely. I got the invitation, I've simply been unsure, due to it very obviously being a trap."
"Don't worry. I won't let the big bad Originals kill you."
"No. You'll do it yourself if you think I'm a threat." He hummed, walking to him and kissing him softly.
"Mhmmm." He hummed, easily returning the kiss. "So, I'll see you at dinner?"
"Perhaps, I'd hope to see my sister at some point before seeing her with Niklaus. But perhaps that's wishful thinking."
"I'm also excited to see your sister it's been a minute." He hummed. "I really do have to go. Shower and change an all that. Elijah has this thing about dinners and dressing up."
"It's called manners."
"It's called being extra and getting an upper hand by believing yourself better. You do the same thing." They said simply. "I can still beat your ass in my ripped, none designer clothes."
"Yes, but this is polite society, not a fight club."
"Dick." He laughed lightly. "I'm not a lawyer. I'm not going to dress like it." He told him. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"Of course, we also have to have a meeting soon about Elijahs protections with the Strix."
"Tomorrow. Or after dinner, and we can include Elijah... also probably Marcel."
"Sensible. See you tonight."
~
Marquez came from his room, hair slightly damp and new clothes, and was immediately confronted by Elijah and Kol, making him still.
"You SLEPT with Tristan?!" Kol asked.
Marquez took a slight step back. "I... Did you have someone tail me?" They asked, looking to Elijah.
"Marcel had someone watching Tristan." He said simply.
"Not exactly interesting to follow him with me."
"Yes, apparently, he was incredibly distracted taking you on a dates."
"What is the issue here?"
"It's Tristan." Kol said simply. "He's not good for you." Marquez eyes snap to him, annoyed at the comment.
"It wasn't serious, I didn't marry the guy." He muttered. "Besides. Tristan isn't the issue here."
"Then who IS."
"Lucien." He said and pushed past the two men and downstairs.
"There you are!" Hope said. "We're doing it today. That was your timeline."
"Mhmm. And I'm dragging the Aurora We knew forward."
"Why?"
"She's more independent and less likely to ... I don't know. Be obsessed with your father and let Lucien manipulate that."
"She still loved him."
"But was aware he was an arse."
"Same as her brother."
"Lucien. Lucien is the one you're planning to kill?" Elijah asked, entering Kol at his side, still looking annoyed.
"Yep. I'm going to rip his heart out."
"You kill Aya. Why don't I get to kill Lucien?" Hope cut in.
"... Because you're the nice cousin?" He reasoned. "The sensible one."
"The one that wouldn't sleep with an enemy of our family unlike my child, it seems." Kol added.
"You slept with Tristan!?"
"Oh my god." He sighed. "It's so not a big deal. We went to an art show, he bought me dinner, I went back to his. Big whoop."
"Tristan is Insane." Kol snapped.
"Yeah, well apparently, so am I? And he is... more trusting than expected. He let me bite him." He shrugged.
"Damn. You could have killed him." Hope said with pause.
"Not that he knows that."
"What?" Kol said, confused.
"I'm a Grim."
"Someone sacrificed you?!" Kol asked. "Are they dead?"
"You killed them... a week later. But yeah." He nodded, shrugged.
"... Good." He said, looking unsure. "What's your ward?"
Hope looked to Marquez, crossing her arms, waiting for him to respond as he looked away from his dad. "You know. He's still uncle Kol, right?" Hope said when the silence dragged on.
"Okay. Tell Uncle Nik you dated a guy who almost killed you." He hummed.
"No. What the hell?"
"Or Carolines daughter." He added. Hope crossed her arms. "That Alaric Saltzman taught you to fight."
"Okay. Sometimes honesty sucks. Got it."
"You're just... keeping your Ward. What you have to protect, a secret?" Kol asked, annoyed. "From family. Did you not grow up with `Always and Forever`?"
Hope laughed as they groaned. "Dumb family saying." Marquez muttered and removed the band from his wrist.
"The Strix?" Kol said, looking mildly annoyed.
"Not the Strix."
"Tristan?" Elijah asked carefully as Kol stilled.
"You're kidding?" Kol said lowly.
"Nope. Turns out we can't kill him."
"And what you decided sleeping with him was a better option?" Kol drawled. "I don't think your mother -"
"My mom is the same age as me right now and with You. My mother can't judge. Remember your brother tried to kill her multiple times, killed her boyfriend, and your mother also wanted her dead. Your father, too, after she had him linked to her, a link You broke." They ranted. "And if you want to mention the age thing, I'll refer you to the fact we are the Same Age. And you and Tristan aren't that different in age either." Kol went silent, just glaring. "Any other comments?"
"He's a psychopath. Absolutely crazy."
"Didn't you used to be? I know about mystic falls. I mean, it's very much a source of issues for me and Hope at school. Klaus sacrificed people, and you went on killings sprees. I also met Jeremy Gilbert. But the want to kill him out ways the story he told since he.. ya know, killed you."
"You have an answer for Everything, don't you?"
"Yes."
"... You realise he played at being Elijah for 100 years?"
"You realise I can tell the difference between my Uncle and a thousand year old french vampire with an ego, right? Aurora played at being Rebekah. Doesn't stop Lucien or Uncle Nik. And I never knew that version of Tristan. Don't make it weird."
"It's not already weird?"
"... Davina sees Marcel as a father figure. Marcel sees Klaus as a father figure since he's known him since he was 11. Yet, he and Rebekah got married, and you married mom. Giving Marcel a weird... almost brother relationship with Hope and cousin/grandparent overprotectiveness with Me. Klaus and Hayley had Hope. But Hayley's in love with Uncle Eli. Not the first time Uncle Elijah and Nik liked the same woman. Aunt Freya has a spouse who started as someone she kidnapped. No one in this family is normal. Weird is the default." He said casually. Elijah was the one who looked more uncomfortable. "I can also mention you and Mom fell in love while you possessed the body of a teen witch, and mom was barely 17, if you want?"
Kol glared. "I assume this means back off your love life?"
"Please."
"Done. No more trying to break down mine, and Davinas relationship."
"Deal."
"... We get married?" He asked softly.
"You do. It's real sweet wedding, actually."
"We already had you?"
"Mhmm. For a while. I was ... eight?"
"Seven." Hope corrected. "I was ten. so..." She shrugged.
"That makes sense." He nodded. "But things are different this time around, Dad. So just... do what you want. Even if that's not having a kid, marrying sooner or later. Whatever."
"Woah. You're rallying for us not to have you?"
"I was a lot of work. And then I died and came back wrong. It's your decision. I'm just reminding you ... Just because I'm here doesn't mean you Have to do the same things again."
"We all came back weird. It's a family tradition." Kol said bluntly. "As long as this time, I wasn't part of the death."
"You didn't kill me. There's a dinner to prep for." He hummed and looked to Hope. "You going with Hayley and Jackson or here?"
"I don't know. I think mom wants me there."
"I would also prefer you away from danger." Klaus spoke up, and Hope rolled her eyes. "Christmas can be family celebration day here. Thanksgivings got the betrayal part inbuilt. Perfect for dinner with our enemies."
"And ... I was invited?" Marquez said slowly.
"Yes, well. You did sleep with Tristan. But as I slept with Aurora. I guess I can't judge." Klaus drawled.
"Poor Lucien. Only Trinity member not to have a hook up at the table." Marquez drawled.
"And Elijah just won't take one for the team!" Klaus said jokingly. Marquez couldn't stop the laughter as Hope and Elijah both sighed, looking both exasperated and disgusted at the idea.
"I mean, Lucien fits your type, Mar." Hope said casual. "Taller than you, has money, vaguely obsessive habits. Easy to manipulate once they like you."
"Wow... you make me seem Awful."
"Very gold digger, blackwidow... impressive. But you have money, you're a Mikaelson." Klaus said dryly.
"I like going places and getting information. It's a... this guy has money and status, so they make a fun few days. I dated... three Strix guys in my time? How I knew the habits. They talk a lot for the fact its a secret society." He said calmly. "And I didn't sleep with them all. I don't actually have that many people I've slept with Hope."
"Right. Because you're manipulating them because they tried to use you for sex."
"... Pretty much." He shrugged. "I see it as a fair reaction. They got a hot date. I had an interesting time. Learned some things, then we part ways."
"Didn't Marcel kill two of them?"
"Yeah. One called me a Stuck-up Prude for not sleeping with him... At a strix party. In front of Marcel. He took his head off. That was fun. And he was the last guy I dated from there. Fuckers suddenly decided I wasn't just fun."
"Marcel killed a Vampire at a strix party?" Elijah asked.
"Well... He was in charge; charter an all that."
"Excuse me?" Elijah asked.
"It won't happen this time. Aya's dead." He hummed bluntly. "And she can't manipulate the Strix. The witches or use Dad against mom and Mom against Marcel."
"Right. That's why you killed her. She threatened your mother."
"Mhmm. No one threatens my mother. Ever." He said simply eyes on Elijah then smiled easily. "Now. Dinner?"
Hope laughed. "Uncle Kol, mom said you and Davina were invited to join us." She said, and Kol looked at her.
"Davina would like that. She was going to invite Cami around, I think."
"I'll mention it to Mom." Hope said easily as they both headed out. Kol threw Marques a final look.
"So, we can't kill Tristan?" Elijah asked.
"No." He shrugged and sighed. "I will physically put myself between you. Don't... Don't tell him. Not ready to deal with that. But we can tear Lucien black heart from his chest."
"You really don't like him." Klaus hummed.
"He hurt Freya." He said, simply shrugging. "And a few other people. But yeah. He's what sets off part of the prophecy."
"The... self fulfilling one?"
"Yeah. He does it on purpose. He wants to be your downfall. He's not. One of you killing an ally was the start of your downfall. I intend to make sure Lucien doesn't get as far as His attempt. Meaning; we don't get the other."
"Me." Elijah said. "I kill someone, don't I?"
"Yeah. You do. But... we aren't talking about it. It's over. Everyone came back from that issue." He hummed. "So, we let it go."
"Is that why Hope was so unsure around me at the start?"
"Uncle Eli... Let's not talk about it. 20 years is a long time, and lots of drama."
"Ah, so I do something else."
"No. You don't. Because it's not gonna happen. And it hasn't." He said simply. "Every single one of you fuck up. Okay? It's a Mikaelson trait." He said. "Suck it up." He said simply. "Lucien dies. Today. So everyone Lives."
"Okay." Klaus nodded lightly. "After we confront him and Tristan about working together."
"Okay."
"You knew?" Marquez looked at him unimpressed and walked passed them.
"Lucien Castle turned up at the exhibit." Hope greeted Marquez, stealing his book and falling onto his bed, and he looked at her unimpressed.
"Nice. We'll deal with it later. Your dad can have a friend for a little while. Why's it my problem?"
"Well, you're the only one who knows he's a murderous bastard we want dead. And it's annoying. He acts all nice, or at least... our family version of nice."
"Elijah or Klaus nice?"
"Dad and Marcel."
"... Okay. I can work with that. Always wanted to stab a Nik copy cat." he said and clicked his fingers and motioned to the book Hope still had, and it flew to his hand.
"Didn't Aunt Freya teach you about not frivolously using magic?"
"Yeah, but mom also taught me not to let others dictate how I use my magic unless I'm in danger, over doing it, or hurting someone who doesn't deserve it." He shrugged and opened it again. "How was the exhibit?"
"People were saying stupid things about dads art. And Cami, Davina talked about her, right?"
"Mhmm." He looked to her.
"She dropped by. There's some murders going on."
"Oh, yeah. Strix are coming. They always do the thing to scare off the tourists." He said. "Probably Lucien."
"You know the Strix?"
"... I made a friend or two." He shrugged.
"Marcel, let them Near you?"
"Marcel doesn't dictate what I do."
"He tries." She hummed.
"Yeah, tried the same with Mom."
"Davina never really did like people telling her what to do."
"Mhmm... It's weird, I'm the same age as her here."
"That why you're avoiding them?"
He turned to stare at her unimpressed. "Isn't that one of those things you don't point out?"
"You care about social niceties?"
"No. But you usually do." He muttered and looked back to his book. "Or act like you do."
"Fair enough. Want a drink?"
"Please." He nodded, looking at her with a smile.
~
"Well, it appears my old mate Lucien has acquired a genuine seer, and in an effort to prove his good intentions, he got her to show us some rather dire visions of future doom. It's grim stuff, really; not for the faint of heart." Klaus was saying as Marquez walked into the room.
"Oh... Great. That's started." He muttered. "Coffee, Aunt Freya?"
"Thank you." She said, standing and taking the second cup he had.
"Who's doom are we talking about here? Because if it's yours, I think we're all okay with that." Hayley asked as if he hadn't said anything.
Klaus chuckled slightly. "Well, sadly, we're all on the chopping block. But, chin up! This witch claims her visions are constantly evolving. So, you may just get your wish!"
"Well, I want to meet this psychic witch." Hayley said and turned to Elijah with a smile. "Tonight."
"Wait!" Marquez said quickly. "Strix party?"
"Good guess." Elijah said.
"I thought I saw a familiar face... Can I come?" He asked, and Elijah seemed surprised.
"These vampires are dangerous -" He started but was cut off.
"I'm well aware. Please?"
"Do you have a tux?" He asked.
"I'm a Mikaelson. I can get a tux within the hour." He said, rolling his eyes. "Fitted and all." He took a drink of his coffee.
"That is a question to ask you. How did this prophecy play out for you?" Klaus asked.
"Well, dad was dead. Rebekah was elsewhere looking for a spell... So, not the same."
"Did we die?"
"Prophecies are self fullfilling and boring. Ignore it." He drawled. "Or else it's a... torturous idioticy. Please don't fall for it." He hummed.
"Are you saying it's OUR fault we'd fall."
"That's Exactly what I'm saying." He said. meeting his eyes. "Why? You want someone to blame?"
"Who kills us?"
"Tries. They didn't." He shrugged.
"Tristan? Lucien?" Klaus asked, and Marquez chuckled.
"Seriously. I'm not telling you." He smiled. "None of it's going to happen. Hope and I have it handled."
"My daughter doesn't need to -"
"Hope will do as she wishes because she is more stubborn than her parents. But feel free to try and stop her. It'll be entertaining to see." He cut Klaus off. "I have to go get a suit. But... call me if you try and ground you 22 year old daughter. I'd love to see it blow up in your face."
"You can't -"
"Bye!" He said, turning to head out of the room with a wave over his shoulder.
~
"Holy. Shit." Hope said as Marquez was heading out of the compound. "You're in a suit."
"... Yea?"
"You haven't worn one since the wedding."
"You haven't seen me in one." He said, shrugging. "It's a Strix party, Hope. You always go in style to a Strix party."
"Just how many have you been to?"
Marquez grinned. "One of the guys tried to.. 'court' me for a year? It was cute. I got free parties and travel. And some really good food and secrets." He said.
"You're awful."
"I know." He grinned. "But it was Fun."
"Did you even like him?"
"Nope. Not like that anyway. Can I get in my car now."
Hope looked at the car behind her. "You bought a Car?"
"A car was bought and I have they keys." Hope looked at him unimpressed and rolled her eyes. "Hey, my moral compass has always been grey." She sighed. Then there was the sound of heels, and they both turned to see Elijah and Hayley. "Wow. That's an amazing dress."
"Thank you." Hayley smiled and looked to the blue sport car. "Are you driving us?"
"Gladly." He grinned. "Are you taking shotgun, Hayley?" Elijah looked unimpressed at the idea, but Hayley grinned.
"Gladly."
Elijah looked at the back seat. "How about I drive?" He offered. Marquez looked at him hopefully.
"But it's new, Uncle Eli. I want to take it for the first drive."
"Marquez." He said slightly annoyed, and Maquez eyes widened slightly, almost wordlessly pleading. "Fine. But I'm driving back."
"You got it." He grinned and looked to Hope. "See you tomorrow."
"See you, Marq. And hey. Tell me what Tristans like." Hope told him.
"Obviously." He nodded. "Last part of the Trinity, right?" Marquez said, opening the car.
"It is. Though you still haven't met Lucien."
"You've met Aurora?" Elijah asked, looking worried. The cousins look at each other, then Hope just headed towards Hayley and Jacksons place while Marquez got in the car.
~
They headed into the Davilla Estate, it was easy to notice the room staring. Marquez, less subtly, headed straight towards the bar as Elijah and Hayley moved to look around the ballroom and headed back.
Elijah frowned, raising an eyebrow as he saw Marquez drinking champagne. "Explaining the sire line rule of your... society?"
"This is Tristans version of the Strix. Very different." He said easily as the pair both got a drink themselves.
"So, Marcels joining is interesting, right?"
"Ah. That does make sense." Elijah sighed, and his eyes searched out the man finding Marcel in the crowd.
"What?" Hayley asked.
"This isn't a party." Elijah told her, while Marcel also seemed to notice them. "It's an initiation."
A row of caterers with trays of champagne flutes walked into the room and tap their glasses with butter knives to get the attention of the party as Tristan, dressed in a fine suit, makes his arrival to the gathering known. Marquez's eyes scanned over the man in interest.
"Distinguished friends, welcome. It's so rare that we're able to come together like this to revel for one night in the company of true equals. Now, I'd like to take a moment to welcome a very special guest; Marcel Gerard." Tristan said and motioned towards the man. Marcel took a step forward as the crowd clapped he nodded in acknowledgement.
"I'm honoured. Thank you."
"Of course, before we tell Marcel all of our secrets, there's one small piece of business to which we must first attend. We must determine his worth." Tristan said as he smiled.
"That's funny... I seem to recall you being the one knocking on my door." Marcel said, confused as he frowned, stepping forward, and Tristan just looked amused.
"You'll notice, Mr. Gerard, that over the course of the evening, someone has managed to take something quite dear to you... Your daylight ring." He said. Marcel looked at his hand and seemed to just notice the ring was gone.
Hayley whispered a worried question to Elijah. "What the hell is going on?" She asked, and Elijah just moved a hand to her arm.
"The test is quite simple. First, you need to deduce the identity of the thief. Then, you are simply to take back what is yours..." Tristan explained to him. "Although, I doubt the prize will be easily relinquished. After all, despite our refinement, we're still a rather violent bunch." Marcel seemed to gulp nervously but remained his composure, even as he looked around the crowd. "In victory, you become one of us. In failure, you meet your death. You have a few hours until dawn. I wish you the best of luck."
The party fell back again, and Marquez turned to Elijah and Hayley as they began to talk, pulling his eyes away from the crowd, Tristan mainly.
"These vampires are ancient. How is Marcel supposed to beat one of them?" Hayley asked after talking through the challenge that had been posed.
"With guile, courage, perhaps a bit of trickery... Admittedly, it's a long shot, but then, sometimes, the new candidates surprise us."
"He will. I mean, you don't really think he'd die to one of your soldiers, do you?" Marquez said casually, making the man look to him.
"They aren't soldiers. They're members."
"Oh, of course."
"Tristan de Martel. And you are?" He asked and held out a hand.
"Marquez Erik Mikaelson." He returned, taking the hand, and he hissed lightly, looking at their hand as black lines curl down his wrist and pulled his hand back. Tristan looked in interest.
"Now, what was that?" He asked casually.
He placed his champagne glass down and pulled his sleeve up to look at the mark that had formed, a Strix symbol with a sword behind it. "Nothing good for me." They said lightly and covered it again before others could see. "No matter. So sorry to interrupt your attempt bother Elijah and Hayley. I'm going to see if someone wants to dance."
"If you give me just a moment, I'll gladly dance with you." Tristan said simply. Marquez paused and grabbed his glass again, a slight flush on his cheeks. Elijah frowned, looking to their nephew. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Hayley Marshall-Kenner. I'm glad you joined us, I did want to meet the famous alpha of the Crescent Wolves." Hayley just stared at him, and he seemed amused. "Elijah! When I sent your invitation, I didn't dare think you'd come." He told him. Elijahs eyes snapped to him, raising an eyebrow. "Tell me; as our founder and patriarch, what do you make of our latest candidate?"
"Well, let me see. Marcel..." He started dryly, sarcasm dripping from the words. "He's arrogant. He's stubborn. Prone to self aggrandisement. He should fit in perfectly!"
"If he survives." Tristan said, and Marquez pushed away from the bar to head away. Tristan quickly moved to stop him. "Apologies. I'm sure he'll win."
"If he loses. I'll kill everyone who had any hand in bringing him here." They said in a calm tone. "Now I'm going to dance, join me, or take your hand off of me." They said a plastic smile pulling onto his lips.
The threats just seemed to make the man look more interested. He removed his hand and held it out in offer. Marquez raised an eyebrow in surprise but took it.
"Your loyalty is impressive." Tristan said, leading them to dance, hand wrapping around his waist, their hands together. Marquez moved a hand to the others shoulder, letting him lead. "But I do doubt you'd truly be able to win against Aya. She's one of our oldest, and that's Not including his challanger."
"I promise you, I'm stronger than I seem." He said easily.
"Is that right?" He asked. "So, how do you relate to the Mikaelsons?"
"Next generation."
"Adopted?"
"Nope. Blood. Elijah's my Uncle, if it's him specifically you're asking about."
"Niklaus's then?"
Marquez rolled his eyes. "Most men don't ask me about my family while we dance. You mustn't think I'm very interesting."
"Oh no, quite the contrary, you're fascinating. Few people would walk in here and make comments against us." He said easily.
"Not all of you." He smiled sweetly. Tristan chuckled and casually spun him and pulled him back closer, lips at his ear.
"Be careful who you threaten, sweetheart."
"Be careful who you let have their teeth by your throat. It is ever so vulnerable." He retuned his breath, hitting against it as he spoke.
Tristan chuckled softly, putting the slightest of space between them once more. "I do look forward to getting to know you better, Mr Mikaelson." He hummed.
"Not even my father uses that. Marquez. Please."
"Of course." He hummed, and his eyes dropped to the younger mans lips for a moment.
"Besides, I think being allies would work better for us than being enemies." He offered, and Tristan raised an eyebrow.
"With everything happening with your family? You wish to make me an ally? Not very like a Mikaelson."
"You seem sensible enough to know you need my family alive to survive. Kill Klaus and the others hunt the Strix for revenge until they get to you and your sister. So, not worth it. Make sure the prophecy doesn't happen, then go back to ignoring their existences. That would actively be the best for all of you." He reasoned. "And having the Strix on protection detail is better than having them as enemies."
Tristan smiled lightly. "You talk like him." Marquez raised an eyebrow. "Elijah." He explained.
"Ah." He frowned lightly. "I don't know if that's a good thing."
"Your uncle has a rather... interesting charm and bluntness that's not seen too often."
"You find him attractive, as well?" Tristan just raised an eyebrow. "You wouldn't be dancing with me if you didn't find me attractive. You'd be dancing with Hayley."
"You're an attractive individual. Mentally and physically."
"Thank you. You're pretty, too." He smiled right before howling and laughter echoed into the room. Klaus soon entered the room with Lucien and a group of women.
They stopped dancing, looking to the scene. Tristans arm stayed around his waist as they watched until the two men watched them. "I'm sorry, please, excuse me." He whispered close to his ear before heading to the group.
Tristan moved towards them. "You should, uh, move along. You're not welcome here."
"Oh. Oh, okay. We're- we're not welcome here..." Klaus said in mock worry and grabbed a glass from the closest server. "Or maybe you should move along before I make you cry in front of all your little friends!"
"My concern is for your companions. They appear out of sorts without a shiny pole to writhe upon." Tristan said amused, refusing to take the bait. Marquez rolled his eyes and looked to the burlesque dances who were stood to the side of the room.
"Ohhhhhh, he's suggesting that you're exotic dancers! Which, to him, is an insult." Lucien said and motioned to the dancers lightly. "If not hypocritical. But, don't take it personally, love. He finds all work demeaning. The only dignified way to accumulate wealth is by birth." He mocked, stepping forward, fixing his jacket, and tapped the end of Tristans nose. "Boop!" His drunken state made more obvious by the second. "Isn't that right, Tristan? Hmm?" Klaus was laughing easily as Tristan kept himself neutral at the actions not reacting at all.
"Niklaus!" Elijah called, walking through the parting crowd as Klaus swung around drunkingly trying to find the man. "You're hammered." He said easily and looked to Tristan. "Which should come as very little surprise to anyone here..." He looked back to his brother. "But it does hamper the festivities somewhat. So, could I recommend that you find the nearest exit?"
"Just..."
"Yes, and could you take your playthings with you, too?" He said, and Klaus pressed his glass into his chest. Elijah took it, and he walked further into the room.
"You know, I used to find it insulting that I was barred from your special little club. But now, I realize that I lack the flexibility to become a member. I could never get my head far enough up my own ass." He said and gave a dramatic bow laughing, grin on his face as Elijah held out his glass. He took it, walked to Tristan, and finished the drink. "Cheap." He said and walked past him. "Come on, let's go, this party's dead anyway." Klaus told the group, and they headed out with howls and laughter following them.
Marcels fight with the Strix member, Mohinder, went well. In the sense, he was losing until the man drank his blood, which had werewolf venom coursing through it.
After Tristan welcomed Marcel to the Strix, passing him his ring back, he looked to Marquez. "Just how confident are you that could take one of us on?" He asked.
"Very."
"Take your pick. Anyone in the room. Extend a challenge." He said.
"Here and now? To the death?"
"Yes."
"Rules?"
"Don't die. No one else steps in on either side." Tristan said simply.
Marquez smirked. "Marquez, we need to get home. You drove." Hayley said.
"I'll see you there." He just took his car keys from his pocket, holding them out to her. "Aya! Would you like to fight?" He asked once they were out of the room. Elijah staying behind.
"Are you so confident, child?" She asked, amused.
"Is that a yes or no, ma'am. I can ask someone else if you fear death?
"I accept your challenge." She nodded. "Don't hold back."
"Oh, I never do. Want to go to a clear room. Or-"
"Here's fine."
"Marquez, perhaps -" Elijah said, looking vaguely worried between the pair.
"It's been accepted, Elijah." Tristan said, cutting him off as he watched amused. "Though I am surprised at the choice."
Aya raised an eyebrow. "Are you going to swing?" Aya asked.
"I respect my Elders. You first." Marquez waved to her shifting into a defensive stance.
She smiled and moved to attack. Marquez caught her wrist, pushing her away and speeding behind her. "Here's the thing with you older vampires." He ducked under her next hit and moved, kicking her in the side, throwing her against the wall. "You always think you're the most powerful in the room." He drawled.
"Why are you Talking?" She gritted out as she threw herself towards him again.
"Because you're slow." He shrugged. "And one more thing." He hummed and raised a hand, pushing down. She gasped, landing on her knees, grasping at her throat. "You really need to know who you're fighting." He hummed as her chest, neck, and arms started to grey. "Just because I'm young. Doesn't make me weak. Just because I'm a vampire. Doesn't mean that's all I am." He hummed. "And spirits talk. Witches... Hate Vampires. And Old ones love to teach." He said as her eyes started widening. "And you went after a Mikaelson. Bad move." He hummed softly. "I'm sorry it has to end like this." He said as he stepped forwards crouching to her eyeline as the last of the life drained from her.
He stood and turned to Tristan. "Be careful who you challenge next." He smiled, and Tristan hummed eyes on Aya.
"... Welcome to the ranks. Is it her place you wished for?"
"That's not why I was fighting." He said quickly.
"I thought you understood that's what we do. You chose your own initiation. Welcome to the Strix."
"I'm not of the sireline."
"Nor was Marcel." He said simply. "I'll call you soon. I'm sure your family wishes for you to be home."
"Right." He said, moving to Elijah and past him, and the man followed.
"That was reckless."
"Can't die. I didn't expect it to be an initiation. I thought it was a threat." Marques said as Elijah was driving Marcels car. "She's an ex, right? I'm sorry."
"I'm sure you have your reasons."
"She wanted you and Uncle Nik both dead."
"That would kill her."
"Not the way she planned to do it."
"She found a way to break the sire bond?"
"She didn't. Someone else did."
"... Davina." He said simply.
"She won't. Dad's not dead this time." He said calmly.
"Right."
"Besides. Jackson or Hayley would have to die. Me and Hope don't want that to happen."
"Ah... Of course. So you did this to save Hayley?"
"Technically, Jackson. There's a few things that's been fixed with this."
"Is that the death you were planning with Hope?"
"Nope."
"Then who?"
"Don't worry about it just yet."
"Marquez... I'm not a fan of the way you talk around things. Why can't you just tell us things?"
"... I don't know how to be clear without telling you who dies, what originally happened, and such." He said after a moment. "And I don't want to do that. I also like Vaguely being an ass. I blame the witch blood."
"So, some of us do die?"
"I was twelve... So. Not for a while."
Elijah looked to them and frowned for a moment, then back to the road.
They got back and headed to the others in time for the seer to hold a wrist out to Elijah as Hayley was already at one side.
As they fed the womans nose, began to bleed, and seconds later, Elijah pulled back and coughed up the blood. Hayley pulled back with a groan, barely stopping herself from throwing up. "Something's wrong." she said.
Elijah looked up at the others. "Poison." He said lowly and moved as Lucien slipped to her side in denials as the bleeding got worse, and she ended up throwing some up until she ended up falling into his lap as she died.
Hope came over that night finding Marquez lying on their bed, arms over their face. "Okay. What's the crisis about?" Hope asked.
He sighed and moved onto his elbows to look at her. "So. I killed Aya." He said casually.
"Good, how'd that happen?"
"Tristan asked if I was confident I could beat someone. I said yes. He let me challenge who I wanted. I picked her." He said, sitting up. She walked in, closing the door, and sat opposite him on the bed. "Another issue." He hummed, pushing his sleeve up and held out so she could see the mark. She gripped his wrist, pulling it closer. He gritted his teeth as he was dragged forward. "Not such a funny joke anymore." He muttered.
"Tristan?" He looked sheepish at her. "You only mark like this when...." She said and sighed. "God damn it, Marquez." Hope said annoyed and let go. "You just had to go get linked to one of them."
"At least it's not Lucien." He murmured, rubbing his wrist.
"Yes, well. It still means you suddenly have a weakness we weren't calculating for."
"Well, I'm still not too vulnerable until I actually care about him. I'm not sure about him yet. He threatened me as we danced."
"You danced with him?"
"Yeah?"
"Oh, so, you at least think he's cute."
"I never claimed to have good taste in men." He shrugged. "The vaguely bad for me guy seems to be interesting for me than the good guy."
"... Lizzy always said you were enemies to lovers bait."
"She saw me as the bad guy. Do you think I'm the bad guy?"
"I think you put an asshole front up."
"... Pretty sure I'm just an asshole."
She rolled her eyes. "Just. Be careful. I know you're avoiding Uncle Kol and Aunt Davina. Barely talking to them."
"Not like I lived with them anyway."
"Yeah, but you called every other day. No need to pretend you aren't close."
"I miss them, is all Hope. But it's fine. I can't exactly go up and call my mother Mom because we're the same age."
"Moms only like... five years older than me." Hope reminded him.
"Then there's Dad." They said at once and smiled.
"I'm glad you're with me, though, Mar." Hope said. "I think being alone in this would be hard, I don't think I'd make the right decision or pace it right."
"I just killed Aya and got myself initiated as a Strix." He said flatly.
"Oh. You're not thinking either. But we have each other to back each other up."
Marquez laughed lightly. "I say we kill Lucien by thanksgiving, latest."
"Sounds good. You could always get back up from the Strix."
"... Tristan did seem to hate Lucien." He hummed.
Hope chuckled. "So, does he like you?"
"He offered the dance."
"Hmm. Gonna use it?"
"Maybe." They shrugged, unconciously moving over the strix mark. "I'll figure it out."
"Don't fall for him."
"You know I don't do love."
Annoyingly Codependent | Part One.
Summery: Cousins thrown back to a time that both are in danger but are perfectly equipt to handle. Neither seemed too upset at the change, plans immediately starting despite the new situations. It's more the Mikaelson Siblings that are going to be surprised with the newly aquired family members.
Word Count: 2350
Rating: Mature[Violence | Implied Sexual content] (Rating for entire fic)
A/N: There is a ship included in this. In the later chapters. As account is named. Little cringe. But this was fun for me to write.
[Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marquez groaned as he hit the side of the bar and froze as he saw the crowd. "Hope?" He called out lightly. Eyes flicking between the people in the room. A moment later, he heard a groan and turned to her. "What the hell did you do?" He asked as he turned so he could see her lying on the ground. He sighed, holding out a hand.
"Not me."
"... Aunt Freya?" He asked flatly, and she shrugged. "Why is our family so co-dependant?" He asked, annoyed.
"Sorry. Who are you two?" One of them asked, and the two turned to look seeing the blonde male vampire glaring. Marques looked at him, and he looked to Hope.
"Are we really dealing with this?" He asked her. "From what my dad told me, he's a dick."
"I mean. Dad never talked about him."
"... I was always curious about that one thing. See if it's the same for the others as me." He said and raised an eyebrow, and Hope looked amused.
"Seriously?"
"... I mean -"
"Okay. Children -" The blonde, Mikael, started, but Marquez cut the man off, pinning him to a wall his hand wrapped around Mikaels heart.
"Let's not lecture the stronger people in the room just because you think we're too young and not worthy of respect." He mocked with a smile.
"Marquez. Remember that Freya actually cared about him." Hope said casually, pouring herself a drink.
"... You say that like I should care?"
"You do."
"... Well. I'm not using white oak." He murmured and ripped the mans heart out. "And apparently, they grow back for Originals as well. And they need ashes, right?" He hummed and looked to a horrified witch. "Aunt Freya?"
"... Aunt?" She asked, confused before she looked at Mikaels body. "No... What did you Do?!"
"He'll live." They said rolling their eyes. "You're the one who apparently decided you should send Me back. So... blame your future self. I know it wasn't my mother."
"Aunt D would never." Hope said with a laugh. "Mar, catch." She said and threw them a glass, and they caught it and placed the heart it.
"Ambustio." He said, and it burned to ash. "Can you remember how long it took me?" Marquez asked, looking from Hope to Mikael and back.
"Few hours." She said simply.
"Cool. So, this is the time with... Dahlia?"
"Seems like it. Mikael died from what I know. But..." She shrugged.
"Cool. So we need grandmother's blood... Which means me, or." He sighed. "I'm really tempted to drag her soul back here to deal with all of this with us."
"Baby Nik."
"Just because she's a mother doesn't give her an out on Everything."
"Just... leave it."
"Hmm."
"Marquez Erik Mikaelson. You're Not dragging her here."
"Hope Andrea Mikaelson." He returned. "You are Not in charge of me. We are not our fathers."
"Like Uncle Kol Ever listened to Dad."
"Well, it's Uncle Nik. Why would he?"
"Excuse me?" Klaus's voice came.
"Finally." Marquez said lightly. "I thought someone traded you for an Alien." He said, turning to the brothers. "So... Mikaels ashes. Norwegian soil and Esthers blood. You do still have the womans body, right?"
"Yes." He said. "Why -"
"Aunt Freya most likely wants certain people alive that died. Why did she send ME? I don't know. I don't give a damn. Hope got the whole save the family habit you lot have, but seriously... Quicker that I get this sorted. Sooner, I get a life again." He said and held out the glass of ashes waving it out. Elijah was the one who took it.
"And you thought killing our father was a good plan?" Elijah asked dryly.
"You care? He's an abusive ass that only Freya truly cared for since he spent... How old were you as a human Uncle Elijah?" Elijah stopped a smile threatening to pull onto his lips at the title. "... Well, over two decades making your lives hell. Whiping, beating. Just... Gross. Anyway. Then he spent a thousand years hunting you. Tried to kill Aunt Hayley and Hope." He motioned to Hope. "And you care I gave him a temporary death?"
"He makes a good point." Another witch spoke up.
"Aunt Bex?" Marquez said, looked to her in surprise and grinned. "You look so different. Vampire suits you better."
"I'm sure, but I promised I'd stay like this until Kol was alive again."
"Well. You should work on the control. A baby witch could take you out, Aunt Bex. Be careful." He hummed and looked to Hope. "Drink, please." She passed him the bottle. "Tomorrow, we'll sort out granny tomorrow." He said, and before anyone stopped him, he raised the bottle to his lips, taking a drink.
"Plan on getting drunk tonight?"
"Absolutely. Come on, wolf girl. Join me?" He said.
"Wait." Freya said lightly. "You two are adults, right?"
"Yep."
"He's 19. I'm 22." Hope said, ignoring Marquez attempt to gloss over it. "We both activated the vampire genetics."
"You died?" Klaus asked, upset.
"I did it on purpose."
"Why would you do that?" Elijah asked.
"She needed the power." Marquez shrugged, taking another drink, and Elijah took the bottle.
"You're still underage."
"I died... I think legal age limits are... less important." He said, annoyed. "Come on. The strict uncle move is boring." He said. "Uncle Eli." He said, holding out a hand. Elijah looked unsure like he was about to give it back.
"Are you really so easy to manipulate, brother?" Klaus asked, which made Elijah step back. Marquez looked at Klaus, annoyed as Hope his a laugh behind her own glass.
"... I was at a party with a hot guy, who was Actually interesting before I suddenly was here. Let me drink."
"Who?" Hope asked. "You don't have friends."
"... Screw you. Your only friends are the Saltzman twins."
"Bitch." Hope returned but both smiled, confusing the others for a moment.
There was a gasp, and they turned to see Mikael waking. "Oh, that sucks. It's not fully grown yet. He woke way too early. That hurts like a bitch." He said watching the man clutch at his chest.
Mikael was back on his feet and glaring, and Marquez smiled. "Please. Try it."
"Your fathers recklessness." Elijah said with a sigh.
"And my mothers power... well, blended with the fact I'm a Mikaelson first born." He hummed.
"And just who's brat are you?" Mikael asked.
"The youngest son... Second yougest. His kid."
"Kols. Of course." He drawled.
"Mhmm. Now, do you wish to fight. Or do you watch to kill the witch who stole your daughter?" He asked, and Mikael glared. "Awesome. Since I can't get drunk... Uncle 'cels bar... not open yet. um. Bayou?" He asked Hope.
"Wolf run?"
"Yep."
"Sounds good." She nodded.
"Wait." Rebekah spoke up. "Uncel Cel? Marcel?"
"Marcel's family." Hope and Marquez said in time and moved towards the door.
Klaus caught Marquez arm. "You're running with a wolf?"
"I'm a Grim. An idiot witch tried to sacrifice me... Didn't work with me." He hummed, eyes turning red with black scleras. "Set off two things. Vampiric and Grim powers. Ancestors punishment, it seems, since I'm not even linked to our family as a protector. I'm... alone. Just working with Hope and such while I wait `til my ward connects." He explained simply. "Now... We're gonna run. Let go... or join us, Uncle Nik."
Klaus looked between them, unsure. "We could invite Hayley."
"And Jackson." Elijah said casually. "I'll come to babysit." He offered.
"Family run, it is." Hope said, looking a little surprised.
"We don't do that?" Klaus asked.
"Not really. Usually just me and Marq." Hope said simply.
"Filthy dogs." Mikael muttered as they left. Marquez stopped and almost turned around, but Hope stopped him.
~
Klaus, Jackson, and Hayley left on the night, long before the other two. They headed back to the compound just in time to see Klaus take someones head off. They looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Marquez coughed. "Hey, where's Aunt Freya? Kinda need her for the Esther wake-up spell."
"... Why?" Klaus asked.
"Two generations and a guide." Hope answered for him. "Me and Freya, then Marq."
"How wonderful. She can never be simple." Klaus drawled.
"I could do it?" Rebekah offered.
"First born would be better. Power and Control." Hope told her softly. "We need to both anchor and channel each other and anchor Marquez. It's not... easy." Rebekah sighed but nodded.
~
Freya was reluctant but between the three of them plus Elijah, who'd brought the antimagic manacles to greet his mother with.
Esther, despite the actions, seemed smug at the fact she was back and looked to Freya. "Sweet daughter." She said in an almost vicious voice. "So wonderful to have you help with my return."
"Wow. No wonder you all want her dead." Marques drawled.
"No wonder Finn thought killing his siblings was a genuine option." Hope added. "Oh... and a baby."
"And that this bloodlines all messed up with her and Mikael."
"Mhmm. At least he seems to care for One of them."
"That's enough." Elijah said, despite his amusement being obvious. "We should get her back to the compound. Mix her blood with Mikaels ashes. Perhaps give the pair time to talk. Alone. Without magic." He hummed, and Freya hummed in agreement.
"Mikael's still alive?" Esther asked quietly.
"Aunt Freya wants him alive." Marquez shrugged and turned from them. "Kill Dahlia. Then I'm going to find a bar and find someone pretty to dance with."
"You're still underage." Elijah said casually as he tugged the chain on Esther as he followed.
"I'm aware, Uncle Eli. But I also... don't care. And can compell a bartender."
"Not if one of them stops you." Hope said casually, walking at his side.
"Hope. Love. Dearest Cousin. Don't give him ideas."
"Well, you can't have too much fun."
"... Aren't you just your fathers daughter." He said. "Buzzkill."
"Hey!"
"At least you ain't Finn."
"Oh, mean."
"He killed my dad."
"... True. And he tried to kill me. Fair enough."
"That's my eldest son you're insulting." Esther spoke up.
"Is it?" Marquez drawled sarcastically with a mock gasp.
"We totally didn't know that!" Hope said matching the tone.
"We thought he was some random parasite that our family randomly kept with them for totally no reason." Marquez hummed. "Personally. I'm all for the youngests needing more respect."
"Of course you would." Hope said, rolling her eyes. "Kol named you for his little brother."
"Well, yeah. Did I tell you Henrik was the first soul to visit me?" They said excitedly. "When I woke. He talked me through the new change."
"You didn't. That's so cool."
"Right?" He said. "I mean, I'm glad considering I was alone in the middle of the night during a bloodmoon. I was about to freak out. Henrik's great. Still visits now and then. Apparently, the whole naming you after someone in honour is actually way to connect them." He smiled.
"That's cool. So, for me?"
"You think your mother won't be watching over you if she dies?" He asked with a laugh. "You know they can visit if they find peace, right? It's just those who Fuck up and don't Redeem themselves, who get stuck between." He said pointedly and Hope chuckled lightly.
"Good."
"And we are keeping that as an IF." Elijah said casually. "We won't let-"
"Please, don't." Hope cut him off lightly. Ellijah looked slightly surprised but nodded sharply.
"Somethings that happen suck. We're not going to let it happen." Marquez said, looking to Elijah. "Hope's still angsty over it." The girl glared at him, and he raised an eyebrow, and she rolled her eyes.
"You would be too." He reached for her hand.
`My dad dies three times before he stays alive. So does my mom. Thats why they left without me. Remember?` He sent mentally.
`At least they're alive.`
`So are yours now.`
`Let's keep it that way.`
`Obviously. We just need to take out Lucien before he makes the upgrade.` He pulled his hand back and smiled. "Come on. When do WE lose. Like Actually. When we work together?"
"I think the counts still on zero." She said.
"Exactly. Now, chill. Aunt Freya got us trapped back here. So we may as well enjoy it."
"Hey-!"
"Not now, you. Our you." Marquez cut Freya off.
"Maybe you'll meet the guy you'll link to."
"Who says it'll be a guy?" Hope just stared at him. "... Okay, fair. But it could be a friend or place you know."
"It's going to be a guy. Probably one our family doesn't like too much."
"Oh, imagine it's someone like... Aurora."
"Bad joke." Hope said and laughed lightly. "Or her brother?"
"... I forgot she had a brother." He hummed. "... Anyway. Our plan?"
"Yes. I'm down for that." She nodded.
"Good. Cause it's currently all I have."
"And the other one?"
"Won't be a threat if the others dead."
"Are you two planning to murder to protect US." Elijah asked. "I'm rather sure that's meant to be the other was around." He said simply.
"You're strong... We're powerful." He said. "No need to do the older guy thing where you need to be the first one to get hit."
"And we also have the extra knowledge." Hope added casually. "Means we can avoid specific things happening that stop a lot of things happening." She said and looked to Marquez. "If your mom doesn't die... They don't get her killed again. No hollow."
"No hollow. No split. No mind wipe... No death."
"No deaths." Hope grinned.
"We can save them all. Stop one death. Stop them all."
"This is why Freya sent you with me." Hope said. "We make a good team."
"And you'd choke."
"I am stronger than you."
"Bite me, wolfie. You are Not."
"Uh huh. Sure, puppy."
"... After Dahlia -"
"Hit the Gym? Marcel plays ref?"
"Mhmm. Because Alaric was totally bias."
"I was his favourite student."
"Creepy~."

Oc's and other bc screw it. Self indulgement
Bare with me as I get my account into a Reset for myself. I am still figuring out a rename so I don't just make another side blog for no reason.

"Can't wait to see you loose Sherly~." Jim called after him and turned to the two blondes in the room. "Are you two going to be any help Or are you going to leave me alone in this game?" He asked them and seb rolled his eyes staying silent as he read.
Magpie looked up and rolled her eyes and rattled off where she'd seen Fox go and Jim smiled and kissed her head with a joking "That's why you're my favourite, good girl." Before heading out and Magpie smiled before it dropped and she frowned and Seb laughed.
" He does treat you like a pet."
Magpie grabbed the closest thing to her and threw it at him "Fuck off 'Tiger'." She responded with a half laugh.
Suspicions
Fox followed Sherlock, practically jogging to keep up with his long strides. “W-wait, where are you going? Didn’t they tell people to-” “-Fox, Don’t act like you’re an avid follower of rules. It doesn’t suit you,” Sherlock chided, pausing a moment before glancing back at her in a slightly less irritated tone. “No, we’re going to pay a visit to the most probable man behind all of this.” Without another word, Sherlock stopped abruptly (causing Fox to nearly run into him) and rapped at a door of one of the more luxurious looking suites on the ship.
