The problem with that Steve Rogers ending is that sometimes I am incomprehensibly, inarticulatedly mad at him and the issue is that he's a fictional character and also that wasn't even his fucking choice to do so. Like if this man was a real person he would NOT have done that but now that some dipshit wrote a bad ending for him I'm sitting here fuming at someone that doesn't exist about something he probably wouldn't do

Do you have any fic recs where hiccup and toothless are the center of the fic? That’s the main focus of the movies but I haven’t seen that a lot in the fanfic I’ve been reading...

Sorry, this is so old, but I can definitely think of some! 

The original Hiccup/Toothless buddy fic is Avannak’s Hitchups. It’s one of the first major fics of the fandom, and if you haven’t read it, it’s definitely worth the read!

I am very behind on this fanfic, but I remember enjoying Another Nightmare by Stig92 back when I had more time for fanfics. 

Prodigal Son by Commandocucumber is also very good, but it is still ongoing and only updates once every year or so. 

I’m trying to think of fanfics that have little to no Hiccstrid in them, but honestly, I’m coming up short right now. I’ve been absent from the fandom for a little longer than I would have liked, so my memory of fics is failing me. 

I’ll add more as I think of them, but people are welcome to shoot me some recommendations to give anon!

OP I haven't read the original httyd books (tbh the ways that some of you describe the series gives it sort of an... eldritch quality to it even) but that genuinely sounds like an incredibly gut wrenching method of torture. If this happened to me it would keep me up at night, haunting me.

The how to train your dragon movies are like someone put a very specific curse on me, with a level of vitriol hitherto unseen. What kinda sick bastard thinks up “I hope your favorite childhood book series gets adapted into a movie that has almost nothing to do with the source material. I hope your favorite characters get replaced with lookalikes with a totally different personalities. I hope these movies are beloved, that they’re so much more popular than the books you loved that nobody knows what you’re talking about when you mention them. No but I'm genuinely unwell because of this fic. It's name is Woodland Paths by little pine tree and honestly I'm just spiraling cause it was just SO GOOD and now I just. I have nothing else to read.
