Rielle's design has undergone a sizable overhaul, from general color scheme to overall appearance. I think the main thing I wanted was to give her a more shapey silhouette, so the big fluffy cloak and Ruby-from-SU-inspired boxy afro, while still keeping multiple tones in the hair, ended up being the solution I went with.

I also ended up really liking her wardrobe which is relatively cold-weather friendly but also keeps her arms free. I like the idea that her gloves are both made of different materials to keep insulated from the elements she keeps associated with her different spellcasting hands.

Anyways these designs are pretty similar, I mostly just changed up Bam's accessories and a little bit of his anatomy (one less finger per hand to make minotaur hands more hoof-like). Also I gave him a staff, and a little bone dog as a companion! Though granted that Bam is over 7 ft tall, his dog (I think I might name him Dmitri) would be the height of an adult human, so not exactly a 'little guy'. I also went for a softer green this time around for accents, in keeping with his relatively dark color palette. He is a necromancer, after all.

Also regarding the Bone Dog, I wanted it to look like it was compiled from a bunch of different bones from different sources, but still cohesive enough that it looked like a real-ish skeleton. And in the process, I made an artistic self-discovery that I didn't expect: I like drawing skeletons if I'm not going for realistic proportions. I like making jank-ass skeletons - it's fun!

Ex-minion to a powerful wizard. A storm god accidentally struck them with lightning and that's how they found out that they had powers. Oops!

I love the lore I wrote for Mimzi in the old post, so if that interests you I highly recommend you check it out. It's basically just expanding on the incident in which Mim got their powers.

From a design standpoint, I wanted Mimzi to have some aspects of my own look. Something about their look is aspirational to me - maybe it's the hair, or the choice of outfit, or some dysphoria I have about my own height (I'm very tall irl). Drawing Mimzi really hits a spot for me that feels euphoric for me as a plus-size nonbinary person, and so I wanted to enable that more by thickening them up a bit in the redesign (and not just because that falls into my general preferences for designing these characters lmao).

All told, the design hasn't changed that much but I LOVE Mim and their new look, especially the more subdued golden color of their eyes, which were easier to incorporate into their outfit as well than the more neon-adjacent yellow of the old design. And yes, I did add a little self-inbulgent dulge in this one

Used to rob anybody for the right price, but is now saddled with a gaggle of friends concerned with 'ethics' so they only steal from wealthy jerks. Luska doesn't mind it, as long as there's no shortage of said jerks to steal from. They've been on the grind for so long that they're only now really getting to see the world with the help of their loving partner Klinn.

Anyway yeah this might as well have been a photo of the same design taken at a different angle like a second after the first was taken. Like literally it's almost indistinguishable. That said, I'll do my darnedest: I warmed up the color palette slightly, mostly just the tone of their scales. That's pretty much it. Oh, and the artifact they're holding (I think it's supposed to be a dragon tooth) is a different color. Done. ok bye

Like Davorin, I think both these looks are still canon. Zheren definitely likes light, drapey fabrics that aren't too constrictive since their hide is a lot smoother and amphibian-like than other dragonborn. I also wanted to add more character to their weapon of choice, the trident. I like the idea that it might have come from some sort of fire elemental or fire giant, though it's awfully small... but hey, dnd often has it written-in that a lot of magical items adjust scale to the size of their attuned user, so who knows?

Duergar Paladin - Oath of Glory

The job pipeline that turns gladiators into pirates produces deadly results.

Captain of an ill-fated ship that similarly transformed - from a sailing ship to a spaceship. On the stellar currents Redd' met their now-spouse Shelby, who enables their penchant for privateering. Loves the refreshing chill of a night swim almost as much as they love the warm fires of the forge.

I thought this old design was a little bit of a mess so I wanted to start more or less from the ground up. I have it written into Redd''s lore that they prefer to keep their chest exposed, so I started with that and ended up putting together a more pirate-y design that I really like. I also redesigned Redd''s whip and shield to look more unique and textured (I also just realized that I never even colored the spikes on the whip in the old design. whoops lmao)

In the old designs I think I over-relied on the use of the black-color fill tool + eraser style to provide quick contrast, so I'm trying to embrace palettes that include dark tones as an alternative. Also, I have no idea what the original concept was for Redd''s eyepatch, so I'm deciding now that it's an enchanted glass eye that has restored their depth perception, as well as serving as a casting focus for Redd''s spells.

They said he couldn't be a sun monk anymore after he was sired. He shrugged and kept on. Lover of fashion that blends flamboyance and function, and the color blue.

Both of these looks are still canon, I think. The more I look at the old design, the more I like those colors more, but I'll tell you what I don't miss - that wack ass SPINE like whoa. Like dog he's flexible but not like that. But either way I think Dav is one of those characters that I'll be futzing with a lot past this redesign when I start making lil comics and things with these characters in them. I'll probably do the same with characters with simpler designs or designs that could conceivably change a lot, like Styg and Dakka.

I love a simple, shapey design but I wanted Keykey's outfit to be a little more ornamented and mobility-friendly while still having a lot of coverage and maintaining a dark color palette. Keykey has marks and carvings all over her skin - seemingly a byproduct of being resurrected - and she's self-conscious about them so she covers up a lot when not in trusted company. Bar none, this is my favorite redesign of the whole roster, and definitely one of my favorite pieces I've made this year.

so little changed here that even the pose is the same. I think the main change with this redesign was just that I wanted Joon's sort of 'cowl' to be more symmetrical and spiky. The colors of her skin and plumage are meant to mimic those of a koi or betta fish, while the actual shape of her cowl is more reminiscent of a manta ray or sea cucumber.

there are many elements of Vorek's / Styg's old design that I want to reincorporate in different outfits that they wear; I think it makes sense that this character would have a lot of different looks especially since their appearance changes a lot due to all the alchemical experiments they perform on themself regularly.

I wasn't drawing a lot of anthro characters until my Furry Arc began in 2021, so I'm still learning how I like to draw head / face shapes for folks like this in my repertoire. I definitely want to draw more of Styg in the near future though, it's just now that I've finished all these guys I've been very burnt out on character drawing. I'll be doing lots of little doodles and stuff eventually though.

Verdan Bard - College of Swords (or college of dance from the new PHB, I haven't decided yet)

A high-profile contralto and assassin with a penchant for the darkest corners of the ballroom. Usually perched in the rafters somewhere at any given moment, either quietly practicing for their next performance or lining up a targeted strike.

They always ask 'if they're such a good infiltrator, why the giant longsword? Where does it even go?' my answer? Pocket dimension. Look, I'm not justifying it any further.

once again, with Klinn I peaked already. I love their design so much that I just decided to only iterate on it a little bit with the redesign. I did want to lean in to a little more coverage with dark clothes just on account of the fact that they're a lot sneakier than the other bards in the roster and specialize more in espionage.

...and yes, at some point I will draw them in performance / lounge singer garb. Trust me, I will.

A man of few words with a heart of gold; sometimes called 'Hurty Bertie' on account of his passion for putting spikes on things. A gifted leatherworker and craftsman who also, well, clearly likes wearing leather, too. Uses his body as a weapon just as much as his heavy (spiked) battleaxes.

In case anybody ever forgets I'm a cartoonist at heart. Bertie's design has always been peak, I just needed to draw a full image of him for these redesigns so I fleshed out the color scheme a little more. I miss the big axe a little but there are so many folks with two-handed weapons in the roster already that I figured I'd make him dual wield.

I do like Bertie's old pose better but I promised myself I wouldn't futz around with these guys anymore until they're all posted here.

This design has barely changed, I just wanted to make him even cuter. I am a simple beast. Also I wanted to incorporate his tentacle-hair situation into the design and flow of the silhouette a little more seamlessly. I like the idea that the tentacles sprout specifically from Shelby's head, and the longer ones are able to function like extra limbs. They're not terribly strong, but they can be used to manipulate simple devices quickly and assist with stabilizing his weapons when firing.

I think maybe the shortened tentacles are ones that he keeps tied up or stunted because managing that many limbs isn't something humanoids (he's a verdan specifically, part-orc, part-goblin) were built for, and as such it's like a second organism using the same heart and brain. So he doesn't use most of the tentacles for anything other than styling because it can get mentally overwhelming. Though I do like the idea that they still move and react involuntarily when he's surprised or in an emotional state.

The quintessential Clock Dog. A gifted scientist obsessed with self-modification. Cold, calculating, and devilishly charming. They 100% will be taking Time Stop as a spell as soon as they can.

I liked this old design and color scheme but I just wanted to try something different, and I LOVE the new design. I think this second set of redesigns trended towards warmer colors overall and I don't really know why, but I like the brassy tones of Tikra's new outfit a lot better than the pale green of the old one. Also I think the new glasses read a lot better as being clock-like. No idea what's up with that skirt and how its transparency works like that, but who cares ya know?
