Latté art? Mine is clearly more like not-té art. Saturdays call for a double shot in a big, big mug which is the star of this post and many of my mornings. This beautiful color shifting piece was made by @moonhandpottery out of North Carolina. I’m a huge fan of this particular mug form (I think we’ve got 4 in this form?) with a super low handle and wide mouth but y’all come oooon at these colors. Inspired by Chroma Flair pearlescent auto paint, the color shift in the glaze from blue to salmon to green to gray and back is just a thing of beauty. So I’ve been on a scoonch of a soft social media hiatus for the last year or so but I’m back and ready to interact (with my mugs) and also you lovely folks. I celebrated my 33rd birthday on January 1st this year so the second I saw this duck from @youngy_03 I knew it was meant to help me ring in the new year and this new age. Along side the duck sits two gifts from my amazing husband. I’ve been patiently waiting a long time for the perfect pieces from both of these artists to add to my collection. Thankfully for me Bradley made these decisions because I’ve never been able to decide from both of their amazing bodies of work. Brad and I were lucky enough to secure two spots in @orbixhotglass new glass bowl blowing class and it was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done within 15 minutes of my own home. Brad chose transparent blue and gray and I opted for transparent lime and opaque lavender. The class was small with only 6 patrons taught by 2 glass artists and it was incredibly informative and really fun. Our instructors were very polite, knowledgeable of their craft, and funny which made for an even better experience. I can’t help but feel that Brad and I have been bitten by the glass bug after this trip. Whew, it’s been a bit since I jumped into the Mugshot Monday fray. I felt the need to mix up what I usually share with you fine folks and bring you along for a matcha minute featuring my trusty matcha mug?... bowl?.... medium-sized, handled vessel? This piece was made by Valinda Miracle of Miracle Pottery from Mentone, AL. I don’t stick to earth tones these days but I certainly did at the beginning of my collecting which is very obvious here with all these nice greens, browns, and tans. That copper iridescence is pretty stunning as well but difficult to photograph. I’ve been waiting a few months of Mondays to unpack this beast and it was well worth the wait. I won’t go into details but I will say @zachtate_artist is not only an amazing artist but deserves all the stars for excellent customer service. This skull mug has been pinched and pressed into the shape of Zach’s iconic jawless skull form featuring a chunky, rainbow-glazed handle and some nice hand drawn stars. The mug is hefty and has a wonderfully tactile surface that would remind you of the feeling of brushing smooth sand away from a seashell or sand dollar. We’ve got a dreary Monday here on Lookout Mountain which makes it the perfect day to settle in and watch the fish swim by with some new work from @rabbit.fish.ceramics Auburn, Alabama based potters Laura and Brian have quickly become Buckles-Mitchell household names for coffee/tea time and this piece belonged here for obvious reasons. I’ve been keeping freshwater aquariums since I was a child so this mug covered in either predatory fish or a mother mouth-brooding species and her school of fry hit on one of my other major hobbies. (Scroll to the last photos to see the fish. The big guy is Lieutenant Shinysides, he’s roughly 10-12 years old) I’m in love with the hand-thrown, pot-bellied form of this mug and the usual attention to carving and detail work continues to amaze. The mug is substantial but not heavy and very comfortable and smooth to hold. The carved lines feel almost like water flowing along with the school of fish.
