January goal: (re)learning how to draw faces

I'm trying to get back into art x) To combat my perfectionism, I created a new tag #cubiecatstruggles to document my art journey. I learned a lot from trying to get this guy to look like the original photo, mostly:

Remember to measure the proportions of the face against relevant features.

Line up features of the face with each other, like lining up the end of the eye with the end of the lip, or lining up the bottom of the ear with the tip of the nose.

It's okay to use digital software to measure those proportions while learning to spot them with just your eye. It really helped me figure out how the face of this person related to the standard loomis method for drawing the head.

FOCUS ON BIG SHAPES FIRST and then work your way down from big to small.

Inktober Day 7 - Passport

We ended up doing community service in the plane of Daanvi, and one of the tasks was to eliminate a chaos incursion.

My wizard Iris pulled through at the end of the fight and fended off two enemies all on her own while protecting her fallen friend (who could not be healed in the moment 😱)

Oh, and due to mysterious backstory reasons that I may describe in the future, she has pink hair now! :))

I ended up using two textures from pixabay to make the background coloring a little easier:

Drawing the clockwork gears was a nightmare was so time-consuming but it ended up looking very satisfying in places. Too bad they are pushed all the way in the background huh :"DD

This is also my first scene with a fully developed background. I tried paying attention to values to highlight the central piece of the scene (Iris and her friend), it was a great learning experience.

It's just so much fun! Though I am trying to improve it and make it more, uh, i dont even know... realistic? glowy?? cool-looking??? I want it to be like those paintings of the artists I admire and I've still got some way to go. But im happy with the progress i am making towards that goal so far so im just gonna keep at it c:

More art fight! I finished this one in one sitting, and let me tell you, there was something cathartic about it. I didn't let myself worry about the quality or how it would turn out, I just tried to have fun and this is what came out >w<

Bridget belongs to @ / dotstink and she inhabits the same universe that Iris does :33 (albeit in different campaigns, but still! this is super cool! they both have dragonmarks which is awesome)

I am running a campaign where players will be travelling from point A to point B, and to keep things interesting, I decided to introduce a party of reoccurring NPCs. The only problem is that the party consists mostly of each player's enemies. What a coincidence 😊
