do you guys think about how Jake’s first kill was probably the worst moment of his life?

people were praising the shit out of him, (its settled in the fandom that he lost his wingman during the mission he got his first kill) and nobody understands

people are just blown away with the fact that he killed someone and there’s medals, galas, months and months of him being the golden boy but he feels awful about it

Rooster, good old Bradley texts him after hearing the news and Jake is prepared to read something sarcastic or mean but..

BUT Bradley just asks if he is alright? (because he KNOWS whats it like to lose a wingman, he has seen Maverick and how he dealt w guilt for years)

and Jake is just… fuck. THIS is what breaks him. because no one asked him how he felt

so he talks, talks and talks to Bradley about it, about how he wakes up in the middle of the night bc of nightmares, no matter how many times he washes his hands, he can only see blood

and Bradley listens, doesn’t comment much but he listens
