Kagome: relatives/friends/ suitors' names' given & faces given, life unrelated to lover shown indetail. Bella (Twilight): relatives/friends/suitors' names & faces given, life unrelated shown in detail. Rin: no relatives’ names or faces, no show of family burial place, unrelated life skipped. What choice? A character whose only relevant story’s to grow and marry him?

OutofSwords: I do agree with this statement. I've never viewed Sesshomaru and Rin's relationship to be anything romantic, rather that he was a paternal figure in her life who was meant to protect her. Not sure when all of this became askewed, but it has. However, people are going to believe what they want to believe/turn on blinders.

And that's canon. Finally, the author of Inuyasha herself has confirmed her interpretation of Sesshomaru and Rin's relationship as one of father figure/daughter. She could have said that she thought of them as a future couple, but she didn't. She could have said they were just "companions" or "friends" like some people want to interpret their relationship, but she didn't, because she doesn't see them that way. The word she used (Hogosha) is used in contexts related to parents and parental relationships. She had that in mind as she portrayed Sesshomaru and Rin's interactions, and that implies that:

Sesshomaru and Rin's interactions were never intended to be romantic.

The kimonos Sesshomaru gave Rin were NOT courtship gifts. They were gifts from a father to his daughter.

Sesshomaru never cared for Rin because he was in love with her, but because he loved her as his own daughter.

Jaken's taking care of Rin doesn't exclude Sesshomaru from being a father figure.

Sesshoumaru helped raise Rin and he never intended to marry her.

OG Sesshomaru is not a pedophile. He is a protector of children.

So yeah, it's official: they are father and daughter. The rest is a bad fanfic.

"Can't sleep?"

He kept his unwavering eyes on the full moon, his hands motioned to adjust the loose sleeping robes that hung off of his body. Sesshomaru stood by the shoji screens and drew his lips in a tightened line as he could feel the young woman approaching him. Sleep...what a redundant activity. He didn't need it unless his body required healing, but at least he was good at acting for the most part. Tonight, however, he could not seem to do both; sleep or act like he was. "Hn...it is of no concern. You need rest, miko."
