spent my latter friday evening with the absolutely healing meditative power of teasing apart single-scoured reno merino into cloud for spinning.

because merino and *lightly* washed, it's not in the grease but it's not not in the grease. the final yarn will need scoured and not just run through a no-rinse wool wash, but the spinning will be sooooooo nice.

barely made a dent in the bag ☺️

i can’t stand “it’s not that deep” attitudes like even if it really really isn’t that deep just PLAY WITH ME. just fucking PLAY. have a meaningless but deep analytical conversation with me. just like think about shit for fun. does anyone else like to think about stuff for fun. it’s so lonely

@batbetbitbotbut gonna see the colors of the washed fleeces all together before making some choices on this front. Hoping for a spectrum wide enough for a 5km two-ply gradient.
I also have a *super* dark brown cormo fleece from The Woolery I can blend in if needed, but now I'm into The Idea and The Project mode and I kinda want to stick to wool from sheep I have met and prepped myself, from raw to string.
just made a plan to meet up at Black Sheep Gathering next week to pickup a fleece from the full circle wool sheep sponsorship!
🥳🤩🥳

since it already rained enough this morning that the porch fleece is going to take another day to dry, hoping for rain enough today that I don't have to water the yard tonight. 🤞
behold! wool to match the storm:

all of this, for sure.
but also...sometimes I ask the i ching specifics, and it answers unambiguously.
me: should I get this chippie thing implanted in my arm?

"I don't believe Tarot is real, but it does work"
Expand on that, king (genuinely curious)
I feel like…
okay, so it’s a lot like conceptual art, or like introspective meditation, at the risk of sounding pretentious
Like. It’s not so much about “the cards are a portal to a higher wisdom that knows more than me” thing- it’s more of a, “given the symbols drawn, could I interpret them posing a question or possibility or suggestion?” Followed by, “is this applicable to my current context? COULD it be?”
Like.
I don’t lay out á tarot hand and say “ah yes, the devil and the tower, I am about to be betrayed”
But I MAY lay out a hand and say, “okay, devil and the tower. Something treacherous and danger. Am I approaching a treacherous or risky situation in my life? What might be a tipping factor? Am I being deliberately reckless? Maybe I should spend some more time working on X project I’ e been thinking of before spending money on it” or “you know what, I HAVE been kind of uncomfortable with X thing, I should say something” or “yeah okay I KNOW Tom from work sucks to work with, I KNOW, yeah maybe I should consider ways of handling that”
Less of a magic oracle, more of a tool for doing literary analysis on real life. Like simplifying everything and laying it out flat so I can gain some distance to untangle my problems without in-your-head crap like projected feelings and social obligation getting in the way and muddying the waters.
So like. I don’t think tarot cards can legit tell the future, but I DO think that self-reflection, mindfulness, and consideration sometimes allow us to predict and calculate our own circumstances.
So, IMO- It’s not real. But it works
If that makes sense

The start of my drop spindle adventures!

My first attempt is to the side. It turns out I needed a different tutorial to understand drafting a bit better. 2nd attempt on the spindle. I still keep drafting too thin but I'll get more consistency with practice.
First tutorial I used was https://youtu.be/-_et_Lnz7f4?si=auDNfu1AGs-x84fp (Jillian Eve) and the second was https://youtu.be/mae2CAkrZDo?si=cPk99Lyprjc9GsxG (Schact). I think both together are a good start.
The spindle and wool is from a kit from World of Wool (UK).

from a single 12x36" board and a 48" dowel, I got into the woodshop and used the table saw, drill press, router, and handsaw to make all the uprights. the base is a left over 2"x8"x2' from the blueberry planters.
remaining challenge: build a jig to hold a round dowel end perfectly vertical so I can drill press out the core to make the sliding adjustable peg.

sometimes, making a dope sauce is just adding together a little bit of a bunch of other sauces:
terriyaki bbq + heinz 57 + char siu + black vinegar + honey + water to dilute the salt + starch of the day to thicken back up into a glaze (today is potato, yesterday corn, tomorrow rice, etc)

oh. OH! LINOCUT PAGES!
pretty sure I am going to make some band-weaving-draft-specific notebooks for inkle and tablet weaving, a la

with the squares being much smaller than regular graph paper, maybe only 3-4mm^2.
I'll do some of the plainweave pages with exactly the number of threads possible in the little heddles I printed, and the 4-hole tablet grids will go from 4 tablets (round shoelaces/cords) up through like 60 tablets which is basically my limit.
I like drawing/coloring the drafts, and I like no screensaver/zero electricity when referring to drafts during warping.

my friend just told me that there's a secret second dashboard that solely contains posts from people you've turned on post notifications for, and when i click the link in the messages it opens it within the tumblr app, so the tumblr app also has a secret second dashboard for post notification blogs, and the only way to access it is to open the link for it within the app.
i literally love tumblr
