Universal basic income would cause a massive economic boom as people who could previously barely get by decide to buy things like cars and houses and dishwashers and new clothes and employ the services of repair techs at need instead of putting it off indefinitely.

i really think the saying there's no ethical consumption under capitalism has become a phrase to excuse giving money to avoidable awful companies rather than a reality check. like if you're poor there's a good chance you have no choice but to shop from brands with less than ideal practices solely bc you can't afford to buy everything ethically sourced (not to mention in certain areas it's next to impossible to find those goods in general) but when it comes to chikfila that is an optional place to eat that is incredibly mask off with anti lgbt policies....... not quite the clapback to just say there's no ethical consumption under capitalism. like YEAH but you could just rip off their sauce recipe from online 🥴

all of us have been unlearning problematic things - it’s really malicious and in bad faith to purposefully dig up old posts by someone that do not reflect their current opinions and attack them over it out of context

My favourite thing is when rich people try to describe a socialist dystopia and just end-up listing off a bunch of things that are already facts of life for the majority of working class people, like "oh, there will be a faceless bureaucracy monitoring you"; "you won't be able to own a home or a car"; "there will be a rapacious class of freeloaders siphoning off the fruits of your labour"; "ruthless medical panels will get to decide whether you live or die", etc.
