Day 28 of 42 in Europe... today we're in Carcassonne France! It happens to be my birthday, so of course, I had to be king of the castle! Carcassone is a medieval fortress city complete with a castle, cobbled streets, and gothic cathedral. Our photo op was taken from the perfect spot. You can see the entire walled city from here, including the yellow circle art which was installed to mark Carcassone's 20 years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (The yellow circles were removed in September.) Day 27 of 42 in Europe... today we take a road trip north from Spain to Carcassonne, France: Europe's Ultimate Fortress City. Along the way we check out some beach towns including Portbou and Le Barcares. Tomorrow happens to be my birthday and Megan's gift is a stay at Hotel de la Cite in Carcassonne to let me live like the king. However, upon our arrival, we find ourselves locked out of the castle's the gate with no answer from the hotel! Leave it to Megan to climb over and save the day! Day 26 of 42 in Europe... we took a road trip from Barcelona to Figueres, Spain, for a tour of the Salvador Dali Museum. Along the way we stopped at a few really neat beach towns including Tamariu, and La Tuna in Begur for some cocktails. After a brief history lesson at the Begur Castle, we end up in Figueres for an evening tour of the Dali Museum and Theater. It's even more surreal at night! #salvadordali #roadtrip #spain
