I decided to archive this blog since I set it up as a side blog. I want to devote more time to my writing and I think archiving this one and running a bull blog is a better move for me. I feel like it will allow me to grow as a writer and interact with other creators.
“Lazarus Pit Madness” is an easy way to brush aside Jason’s violent actions and absolve him of responsibility and blame to make it easier to justify him reconciling with the Batfam so there can be feel-good times and fluff in fics, while also giving him something to angst over when needed. Which I understand why it’s a thing, when you want to write a Batfam fic where Jason’s more agreeable and on better terms with everyone, reconciling them with his pre-Reboot personality would be a lot harder, and sometimes you just don’t want to put in that kind of legwork, bc it would have to be a lot, especially if that’s not supposed to be the focus of the fic. But it also denies Jason’s character agency, which is a huge part of his entire deal. Jason owns his choices and he doesn’t regret them. For example, whenever I read a fic where at some point Jason is mopey or remorseful and apologetic about shooting Tim or Damian bc they’re kids, I side-eye it hard. I firmly believe that in those cases, even if Jason were to apologize and feel bad about it, which I’m not sure he would, it’d be more bc he regrets that it was, at least as he believes it, necessary at the time. And in the same situation he wouldn’t rule out doing it again. If any of this and that makes sense. Sorry for coming into your inbox to ramble! This got away from me! I just find it fascinating what changes fanon makes to canon, especially in DC fandom, and I’m very interested in the psychology of it, trying to track and dissect the reasons why something would become widespread fanon, what the purposes for the changes may functionally be, and where the discrepancies originate within canon, and how they develop and morph over time as they travel through the fandom’s collective consciousness
I 100% agree with all of this. People always woobify Jason and in my opinion it makes him even less interesting. That’s also why I don’t really like it when certain writers make him chill with the batfam. Like maybe there’s a way to write it where he begrudgingly works with them SOMETIMES, but like you said, it just takes away his agency. He has his own morals and beliefs and does what he thinks is necessary, and I think that’s a lot more interesting than “Bruce told me to stop killing people so I stopped :)”.
I wish Dickie had nipple peircings. Imagine what that alone would add to his character. Mans got balls, and a sense of fun, and a bit of rebellion cause "fvck batman".
well babe do i have some news for you
he's from an alternate future, he calls himself deathwing, he's super fucked up, dresses like he has nothing at all to hide, and we're not even 100% sure this IS dick grayson it might be it might not be but. but but but. he and his Nipple Piercing definitely exist.
It usually happens after a bad dream. After the storm breaks and he wakes up like the damn world is ending and he won't calm down no matter how hard you try to assure him that everything is okay.
He won't talk about it.
You're not sure if he won't or if he can't. You don't push him. You get the distinct feeling he would leave if you did.
So he paces. And you sit patiently until that moment comes. Until he stops and sighs heavy, shoulders slumping as he looks over to you with tired aqua eyes.
One night
One night he will tell you about what plagues him when he closes his eyes.
But not tonight.
He curls into you. Holds you like you'd disappear at any moment. It takes all night to calm him down. To assure him that he didn't hurt you in the throws of his nightmare.
