I've thought of an AU where Gale was originally an ordinary street cat who ate something magical (or was in the zone of some ritual) and as a result got human intelligence and consciousness => he became interested in magic, joined Elminster, watched his work, picked up some magic trinkets and even helped the wizard, but Gale had no human speech and couldn't cast spells or craft anything because he had paws.

This situation caught Mystra's attention and she, appreciating the cat's craving for knowledge and especially for magic, appeared to Gale in human form, playing with him and all. After some time she fulfilled his dream and made him human and they later became close friends. Gale (like in the original), wanting to prove to Mystra that he was worthy of being human (though no one gave him any reason to think otherwise lol), did the same shit he did in the game and ended up getting his ass kicked 🤗💙
