Justin....Justin...why did that name ring a bell? Ah! Yes. "Forgive me if I'm being presumptuous, but might you be the mate of that Bronze that prowls these parts?"

"You know I never have had a good run in with any Dragons set to guard objects of fire. Or maybe I just have a grudge and a bias. Who can say for certain? Poor bastards. It's a terrible job, being set to guard X of X. Minding magical objects is dead boring business after the first hundred years. It's always eat this 'hero' and smash that one, with long periods of doing nothing but sitting on your tail in between. Messy, excruciating work. Do you have any idea how tired I got of hearing Humes challenge me? And you can't talk them out of it. Oh no. It's always 'I'm the Chosen One' this and, 'Die, fiend!' that. Even if they can see the bodies of the other fools. I was certain that would dissuade them, but no, they kept charging in."
He shook himself, realizing he'd gone off on another tangent. "My apologies. Bad memories. What happened when you broke it? If there were no catastrophic problems unleashed, perhaps it would be better to get rid of them all. At the very least it would prevent them being stolen. The problem with Powerful Magical Objects is that they always attract the greedy, and usually the evil. Or worse, the well meaning but stupid."
"Correct, although there are some very… dangerous and forbidden ways of altering the past. Dangerous because they expose the user to a type of corruption that literally eats their flesh and replaces it with a black tar-like substance. These are paradox manipulators, Chrono Corruptors, aforementioned Chronomancer’s corrupted by their greed or something like that. I stoles one’s powers. They’re pretty fun and very purple." At the question, Condor began to rub her chin again. It was kind of a fuzzy memory, due to the Chronomancer order’s attempts to remove the ability of time manipulation from the Hero’s mind. "An order of sorts spreads these bronze gears throughout history. ‘Chosen’ people find them and can learn to become Chronomancers or simply pass the ability on. I ended up getting it, but broke a few rules and just stole my gear back. I have mastered at least three forms of time manipulation and am working on another, this one based off of the theory that reality is ‘Data’."
Another chin rubbing, this one followed by Condor shrugging. This wasn’t her area of expertise. That was beating up them. “No idea. There are at least nine, one for each of the Primary Elements. They don’t have or need minders, being thousands of years old. They have the duty of guarding the Elemental Orbs, objects that balance the Elements.” Condor took hold of a rainbow crystal hanging around her neck, toying with it, it glowing in response to the touch. “The one of fire, Akriloth, was driven insane by the power. With great difficulty, and with a powerful relic, managed to slay her. Thankfully her child took up her role, but… The orb was stolen by a madman, insane with grief and revenge… that I couldn’t save his family from those fires. Well, the Orb was taken once more, and more bad stuff happened which led to me having to break it. Also fighting in space. That was really fun.”

"Fascinating. So time travel then is less a definite and more of a...unconventional sight seeing trip of sorts. Is the means to control it common, or is there some control over its distribution?" Zipping around through time seemed so potentially problematic. Malek couldn't help but wonder how many had found ways to exploit it.
"And how many 'Dragons of X's' would you say there are, roughly? Do they all come with a minder like you, or are some trusted to look after themselves?" A strange world she described, and a broken one by the sound of it.
A shrug was the Hero’s initial response. “Not sure. I wanted to be human, but this is as close as I’m gonna get by the look of things. I do get a little homesick, but a physical existence is much more enjoyable than being but a shadow.”
"If you go back in time, the events that you changed will reassert themselves after you leave or die in the past. If you go to the future, you will forget what occurred when you return, but will have that… hmm what would it be called? That feeling that you know something but can’t say it, like it’s right on the tip of your tongue? Yeah, that feeling will happen when you are about to reach the future you observed. It’s pretty neat, not sure how it could be profitable."
Condor stopped talking and began to pace around in a circle. “Actually if you grabbed, for example, a gold statue from the past and brought it to the future to sell… that would work… Oh, but yes. Enough about time travel mechanics. Those ‘Of X’ titles mean that, for example, the Dragon of Time is an embodiment of time in dragon form. I’m not sure if they have jobs per say, but their existence keeps the balance.”

The smile lingered as he stared pointedly with a raised brow at Death's covered face. "The mask was something of a giveaway~" He decided to let the 'young' comment pass for the moment.
"I seek nothing less than the two most priceless and rare commodities in the cosmos my friend; knowledge and good conversation."

"Ah!" the silver-haired man exclaimed, walking forward with a broad smile. "Might you be this 'Death' fellow I've heard about? A little wyrmling told me this city is ran by a deity of death. One simply can't pass up the temptation to seek the confirmation of a tidbit like that out."

"Oh think nothing of it, friend. I've been accused of arrogance far more times than I care to keep track of, and while it is admittedly occasionally true, there is no shame to be had in knowing one's power and being sensible enough to avoid the trap of false modesty for the sheer sake of being able to claim it."
"It is a pity tho," Malek tutted, thinking of all the people that must have died, and for such petty reasons. "So much promise, and rarely brought to fruition. They stagger blindly forward in oblivion, bumping their elbows and hips, never realizing the only hindrance to their vision is their own reluctance to open their eyes."
"My own world is developmentally held in stalemate by the sentient races' inability to put their pride and differences aside and work together rather than against one another. They each wish to be the dominate power, and to prove they're somehow superior than those others based on something as arbitrary and insignificant as what they were born as. It took a minor miracle--which I had no small hand in creating--to get them to work together long enough to save themselves, and that was when they had a common enemy to unite against. In my travels thus far, nothing has disappointed me more than finding the hume propensity to dominate and discriminate based on birth to be a nigh universal trait."
A silver haired man, dressed in clothing that seemed to belong to a much older age, bent down, poking the drone curiously. "Now what on earth are you? A construct? A golem perhaps? You are a strange looking little thing. I'd just love to take you apart and see what's making you tick."
The drone regarded the man with its glowing red lens, and DEACON’s voice emerged from it.

"Our desires are shared in that regard, unknown entity. I often disassemble organic beings to gain insight into their biological hardware. This unit is a remote observation drone, powered by a compact antimatter reactor. Attempting to disassemble it may result in catastrophic core failure, resulting in a highly energetic matter annihilation reaction."

"The point is simply having it, silly girl. Although I suppose if you're prone to misplacing your things, there is a certain logic in spending your fortunes on consumables." Malek didn't get it, but to each their own. How anyone could not want a nice collection of proper treasures was something he had never grasped about humans.
"Well, it's not like I'll have anything to do with all that expensive stuff afterwards. Heck, I'd probably end up losing it." She shrugged indifferently, bluntly stating the truth. Once before, she had decided to purchase something a bit more on the expensive side--a little tanuki charm, but ended up losing it down the drain not so long afterwards. "In my opinion, it's better to put things into good use, I think. As long as I've got the money to keep it consistent."

So… You know the whole dragons kidnap virgin princesses and all that?
What if they kidnapped them to protect them from man? What if they taught them out to be dragons and how to fight back against knights who only saw them as prizes?
What if dragons aren’t born? Buy rather they’re taught. All dragons are princesses who learned this and became so much more.
