just saying that this blog so far is really fucking awesome. im attempting writing my first book of original fiction and my main character is detransgender, and its been really hard to find good resources. this is genuinely so helpful and amazing

does de-trans include people who are going back into the closet? I assume the resources would be of help to them but I don’t know if they would be included in the label of de-trans

When I personally talk about "detrans people", I mean all detransgender people regardless of detransition status and not all detransitioners regardless of personal identity the same way that "trans people" is generally used for all transgender people regardless of transition status and not all transitioners regardless of personal identity.

I believe that transgender people who are going back into the closet are gonna have different experiences with and feelings about detransition than someone who genuinely feels more comfortable/authentic transitioning towards their original sex/gender, and feel that trans-centric support/social groups would be better equipped for handling that.

However, detrans is most commonly used as shorthand for detransitioner and going back into the closet is one kind of detransition. The detrans spaces I've seen have been entirely accepting of them (and hopefully helpful).

Ultimately it comes down to if the label accurately describes what you want to communicate to others and the community is helpful/shares your experiences in a way that makes you feel seen

- to provide support for our community

- to give new detransitioners hope for a future after transition that includes joy and satisfaction

- to promote solidarity between the trans and detrans communities in order to share resources and so that detransitioning is no longer treated as “betraying” our trans siblings

- which insurances cover detrans healthcare (ex. top surgery for detrans men) and where they are

- which name (and legal gender) change resources also serve detrans people

- discounts for laser hair removal

- detrans friendly support groups around transitioning to another gender

- hotlines/helplines

- posts/articles that give tips for passing as your gender
