Burnout Check-in #2
Move your body or change location. Get outside of your head.
Burnout Check-in #2: Move your body or change location. Get outside of your head. At the end of January, I started a burnout check-in. I want to give you permission to take care of yourself. I need to give myself permission to take care of myself! I evaluated my own situation throughout 2023. It’s why I made personal and professional goals for 2024. Often, it feels like I’m teetering on the…

ACR, VPAT, Audit?
Summary: Accessibility acronyms and options can be confusing. I define and explain the similarities and differences between VPATs, ACRs, and audits.
Summary: Accessibility options and acronyms can be confusing. I define and explain the similarities and differences between ACRs, VPATs, and audits. Taking steps toward creating a more inclusive web is a good thing. But it can feel overwhelming. I often hear the following statements from my clients: It’s overwhelming. Where do we begin? How do we figure out where we are failing? What do we…

Accessible Love: A Random (AI) Ballad
Valentine’s Day often stirs up my creative juices. This past week I’ve been thinking a bit about how accessibility is a show of love. At least, when it’s not done out of fear (e.g. lawsuits). When we take time and make the web accessible, we make space for people with disabilities. While pondering a ballad for web accessibility, I thought I’d give Suno‘s AI Valentine’s song generation a…

Keeping up on digital accessibility (Pocket edition)
Summary (with humor): Visually disabled woman delights in forcing webpages onto her e-reader, so she can actually read them. In “Coming up for air“, I noted I wanted to prioritize remaining qualified in digital accessibility. One way I can do this is keep up on the latest ideas through blog posts. Dedicating time to read each week keeps my mind on and in digital accessibility. It keeps me in…

Coming up for air (2024)
Summary (with humor): Middle-aged, neurodivergent woman strives to achieve new goals for the new year, now that her energy and motivation have returned.
Summary (with humor): Middle-aged, neurodivergent woman strives to achieve new goals for the new year, now that her energy and motivation have returned. I don’t know about everyone else, but, for me, these past 4 years have been hard. Lots of changes. Lots of disappointments. And, unsurprisingly, so many survival tactics and re-prioritizing. COVID-19 kicked it off, and I’ve been dazed and…

Radical Inclusion: Empowering Accessibility in Tech
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, I participated in a Women Who Code town hall to discuss the importance of empowering accessibility in tech. Milestone 46
As of tonight, I have managed to draw all 46 Hiragana characters! What an accomplishment! And, yes, I recognize most of them right off hand. :) I'll be testing myself this week, and move on to Katakana next week. 46 down, 46 to go... Sugoi! (awesome!)

Happy Solstice!
Gorgeous first day of summer here. Worked a half day, read a little of my school text, cooked a brilliant dinner, and participated in the annual summer solstice cemetery tour.
Mosquitoes are in full force. And temperatures are getting warmer. Birds are active and busy. And the multiple shades of green are vibrant.
More picture taking planned for my weekend!

Summer School
Just started my summer quarter today. Go, team, go! Gotta keep up my enthusiasm for HCI (human computer interactions). Excited and overwhelmed all at once. My fortune cookie at Peking today read: "your efforts are budding - results will appear soon." I hope it means it!
