The thing I love the most about the first movie is when the symbiote returns to Eddie after being separated.

Only the symbiote just ate and it's full of energy, so the first thing it decides to do with all that excitement is dive tongue first back into its host.

And Eddie is so shocked by the sudden interaction, clearly confused but clearly enjoying the intimacy, that after the symbiote rips him away from Anne it's essentially factory reset him.

To be fair, they haven't had the most wholesome experience with their spawn/children. They decided to raise Sleeper together and ensure it's raised to be good.

I feel like it's more them being overprotective, and sometimes it comes across wrong. Maybe it also overrides the love that's there and crosses a bit into being controlling.

Could they PLEASE stop being so strict with Sleeper? 😭

I understand Sleeper is older sibling but GIVE HIM A BREAK

Riot calling Venom a traitor here because Riot made sure to kill Eddie to prevent any more interference in the plan at the time. It was petty, but Riot didn't expect something terrible to come of it. Riot didn't think Venom would actually sacrifice its life to bring him back.

But then the two of them show up, and Riot knows immediately it means Venom did the impossible to save its host. That it's started the process that will doom them all.

Because the symbiotes imprisoned their creator Knull inside a cage that can only be opened with a key that was never meant to be created. Because symbiotes lack the sentiment to even want to create bonds with hosts, which made the plan fool-proof.

But Venom has flaws, which is why it was outcast. And it created a bond with Eddie. Saving Eddie from death's door meant a codex was made right where Eddie's fateful wound was.

Thus, making Venom a traitor to its whole race.

And you might say, we already knew that. Yes, fans and lovers of Symbrock have been saying it for years, but this is the first time it's been confirmed in a comic. After enduring criticism that they weren't shown as a family, the symbiote itself finally refers to them as his and Eddie's children.

"Leave your brother out of this."

Even though we got crumbs from Symbrock, I have to say this makes me very, very happy. 😭💖🙏

I feel like the last movie didn’t do Symbrock much justice in addressing why Eddie was such a little shit the entire time, which created so much upset.

I mean, his attitude fits for his movie characterization from my point of view (comic Eddie and movie Eddie are separate entities of a single trauma in my mind), but they didn’t do the best job in laying it out for the general audience. A few added dialogue here and there could have solved this issue, a little scene here or there cataloging how Eddie really can't handle the stress. But they dropped the ball on that one.

From a real ass POV I just feel like if I was in his situation I’d be WORSE. Eddie was tamer than he could have been, all things considered. And I feel like they were so caught up in the comedy of the scenes throughout the movies they didn't tie in the underlying stress in their relationship well.

Movie Eddie was never a big fan of being along for the crazy ride. And he was also never good with dealing with inner stress, because the worse his situation got in the first movie, the worse his anger/anxiety got. By the second movie he was getting upset at even the small stuff.

But people tend to bypass the obvious signs because of the humor laced through the scenes.

I mean, it’s shown that Eddie can’t even have a normal conversation because the symbiote usually likes to butt in with commentary to the point Eddie can’t even focus on his own thoughts and the other party’s words to respond correctly because he’s forced to listen to the voice inside his head instead.

So it fits that he was balls deep in stress and frustration by the time they got to Mexico. A whole year of stress and the loss of literally everything he had changed him. He became bitter. He doesn’t have any way to vent his anger out. And the only thing available to him is his symbiote. So he makes it the target of his anger, and he’s so stressed that even the smallest things like a single comment becomes a big issue to him. It’s human nature in people who don’t handle stress well.

I have no doubt he's going through the seven stages of grief every second of every day and blaming himself for every time he's even thought of anything negative about the symbiote after he lost it.

Venom series canNOT be over. I need symbrock back.

I'm going through the seven stages of grief.

Been having dreams about a new Venom movie, where Knull is still trying to get payback and so the government has no choice but to bring Eddie into it because he's considered experienced in that field by now.

But he's emotionally closed off now. Just over the day to day and struggling to find purpose now.

When he opens the door to the feds a black cat with lighter markings slides up and nuzzles Eddie's leg. It sits at his feet and watches the guys intently to where they get uncomfortable. They make a remark on the odd pattern of coloring...and the attitude.

To which Eddie explains that yeah he's a little judgmental, his tone deadpan.

We assume Eddie got a cat because Anne had one and he's used to taking care of one. A bit of companionship.

But later introduced to be Sleeper, that the symbiote left Sleeper inside Eddie as a parting gift and way to find its way back to him later.

And Sleeper watches over Eddie and stays by his side like a sweet child. It sleeps on his chest at night. It stays outside as the form of a cat to give Eddie space. The space its symbiote parent took residency in.

It follows Eddie outside like a dog without the need for a leash. Eddie feels dead inside, especially with the daily reminder of what happened by having Sleeper, but he's still greatful for the company. He still gives it love and finds comfort in it.

Fun fact: I was writing since I was like 13 on ff.net and other sites. I'm 35 now and often forget all those stories exist because I just grew up and grew away from the sites.

I get an email notification every now and again if someone adds me as a favor author or comments on an old ass story. Once I even revamped one of those stories and finished just because of that.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
