I've just started reading X-Men and decided to start with the Krakoa era as recommended by many as a good jumping on point. So I'm now officially halfway through House of X/Powers of X and I have some thoughts.
WARNING: This is a long post to start off my journey.
Now, to preface, I've never read any X-Men books before and have only seen the first movie and bits and pieces of the others. I didn't grow up on the animated show either. So I'm basically going into this blind... Well, not exactly.
I actually know a surprising amount about X-Men characters, mostly through pop culture osmosis and interesting videos going into the lore of certain mutants.
But that's basically it. I know my extreme basics, I know some obscure lore and I have a scattering of knowledge of random other stuff.
In fact, not only is this my first venture into X-Men but my deepest dive into a Marvel comic storyline yet. I've read a few comics here and there, mostly spideypool stuff, but DC, specifically Batman, has been my main comic domain for a good few years now.
As per my usual self, when I got into Batman, I had to go back all the way to Crisis On Infinite Earths in the 80s. I can't just jump into something mid-way, and struggle to allow myself to skip stuff. As I've read more Batman and caught up to the 2000s, I've gotten increasingly better at this but needing a stable jumping on point is still a big necessity for me.
In comes Krakoa era.
A big world-changing event that kicks off multiple comic lines and shapes the world these characters exist in seemed perfect for my needs.
And so, now halfway through, do I feel House of X/Powers of X has satisfied my weird need for order and has it been enjoyable throughout?
Sort of and sort of.
I can definitely see how this is a great jumping on point and can see myself enjoying many of the comic lines spawned from this. However, as someone relatively new to the X-Men world, this has been a confusing journey.
Thrust into this story of a new world for mutants, one where they declare sovereignty and demand the world recognise it, I find myself constantly asking "Is this new and will be explained later or is this something I should know from the start?".
With its nonlinear storytelling, it's hard to tell. Yet, despite the mild confusion, something I've become accustomed to in comic events, I've found myself increasingly enjoying the story with each issue.
There's a part of me, that annoyingly persistent part of me, that wants to research every last thing I'm confused by. But there's another that simply wants to trust the process. Accept I won't know everything and trust that a majority of those things were things readers of the time didn't know either and will get explained as the story wraps up.
At first, my biggest issue with this storyline was the jump to 'X-Men: Year 1000', a concept I had no idea if it was invented for this or had previous importance. I found myself bored with these at first, comic space stuff never being my cup of tea in the past. But as I've reached now what I think is the conclusion of that aspect, it's kinda coming together. Sort of.
Luckily, I had watched a video on Nimrod recently, so I had a vague sense of what this guy's deal was and how it tied in with what's happening in current day.
And speaking of current day, that's been my favourite aspect so far. Everything with the mutant land of Krakoa, the liberation of the mutant people and the team-up between Professor X and Magneto through Moira (a character I adore so far) has been amazing!
And really I think that's all I have to say so far.
House of X/Powers of X has been enjoyable and extremely interesting if a slog at times (mostly Powers) and I'm honestly excited to get through the rest!
Will update you when I reach that point! 🫡

Doctor Who season 4 is so delightful because you can tell that The Doctor, on occasion, straight up forgets that he's sad and burned because he's busy being in a sci-fi buddy comedy. And then something will remind him and he'll be like oh! I'm sad and burdened! And Donnas almost always there to be like 'hi sad and burdened. I'm Donna' and he has a completely proportional reaction like 'i would die a thousand deaths for you'.

Other people want Doctor Who to go back to it's roots by having the Doctor be a white man. I want Doctor Who to go back to it's roots by having the Doctor tell a Dalek to kill itself. We are not the same.
#dw#9#15#LMAOOOOOO#the doctor should always be a lil mentally unstable (which he still is but i was a bit worried that the therapy healing of 14 kind of-#cleanses all his trauma in the narrative so they had a clean slate. but the christmas special gave me hope that hes still messed up <3)#i honestly love him being more emotionally open#i know ppl have issues with him “crying in every ep”#but i love it#feels like hes more emotionally mature in some ways#but i just wish he expressed his rage more bc rage is healthy and normal for emotionally mature ppl. its not always kindness and crying#anger is healthy and -while he does show some so far- i hope he has more snapping/breaking moments under the pressure and mental instability#anyway have my issues with 15s stuff but im REALLY loving the majority of it#btw this is just a place for me adhd rambling not really that relevant to this post lmao yall can ignore this

Rose Tyler was poor. She didn't finish her A-levels, she lived in government housing, she worked a shitty retail job with no hope of college or university on the horizon, she was 300% what her classist society would view as trashy; thick mascara, dark roots, the whole nine yards.
But she was the most important woman in the universe to the Doctor, to so many she impacted; beautiful, brilliant, adored. She was the love of his live(s), and so, so many who met her were touched in some way just because she was herself, and because her conviction, her love, and her compassion were so powerful that they radiated across universes, throughout time, and changed everything, over and over again.
And I know all of this has been said so many times, for almost twenty years now, but Rose, I think you will always be my favorite fictional woman of all time.
#dw#rose#ROSEEEEEEEE#this genuinely made me feel so much#having someone so relatable to grow up watching as one of my favourite characters and to be so beloved by my favourite character of all time#it felt so amazing#she was just like me and the doctor loved her for that#not in depsite of that but BECAUSE of it#ugh rose#ugh doctor who#you forever have my heart and are entangled in my very being. intrinsic to who i am

For the last time folks.
In the comics, Clark was never 'standoffish' to Kon because he was 'alienated by having his DNA cloned while he was dead an unable to consent.' He was wary of Cadmus, because his relationship to Cadmus had been strained even before his death, but he never directed that hesitation or strain towards Kon. In fact, very shortly after Clark and Kon met they found out Kon was not even genetically related to him! The Lex/Clark clone origins in of itself was a retcon made over ten years after Kon was made.
Clark NEVER 'rejected' Kon, in fact he trusted him to wear the S-Shield and he is one of the most important people to him where he has had nightmare scenarios where he experiences Kon's death. He trusts him with some of his most challenging missions, and trusts him with his parents. Additionally, he defends Kon - famously against Bruce who called him a robot and someone they could not trust.
Clark did not knowingly name Kon "abomination" as a form of rejection and petty meanness. Kon El meaning abomination was specifically a New 52 incarnation which Kara used, originally when Clark named Kon it had no connection to the meaning 'abomination' and Kon was so happy he cried.
Trust me, there are plenty of ways to write and explore potential drama between Clark and Kon that are not totally made up and makes it sound like Lex Luthor is running a smear campaign against Superman with lies meant to make him look like garbage.

There seems to be a general malaise on most of Tumblr about TikTok getting banned in the United States.
I understand the problems, "brain rot", whatever but- A government banning a social media app that opened the world for many people is legitimately scary and upsetting. Say what you want but, there are MANY global and local issues that would not have gotten the same traction, recognition, and outreach without TikTok.
And then add to this that Meta/Facebook was one the largest lobbyists working to get TikTok banned... Like- I think folks should be more concerned about the implications of what this means, especially since the ban goes into effect the day before inauguration.
#tiktok ban#genuinely feel insane watching tumblrs reaction to it#you are not immune to propaganda tumblr#the pure distain tumblr treats tiktok users with and this “holier than thou” mentality of#“well we're not like you. we don't have brainrot. we don't just follow trends. tiktok users are gullible and believe everything they see”#and then they say what they think the tiktok experience is and its like okay so either you don't know how that specific algorithm works and#didn't use it long enough to see or your taste just led you to the insufferable stuff#and its like at least listen to ppl explaining what the experience of an avid tiktok user looks like in the same way we've defended the#tumblr experience and explained how it operates differently than most other social medias in ways someone joining initially might be#confused by and put off the site forever based on first impressions#and then the utter ignoring of what the us government banning a unique app like tiktok means. just infuriating.#and yes the ccp isn't good but the genuine casual xenophobia and compliance with us fear mongering surrounding china is rampant#rant#ignore

as someone who like grew up on Moffat era. Joy To The World is so clearly a Moffat story in like the most neutral, objective way possible. the "what did I see?" is so 11th Doctor era and mystery book coded. people being kept conscious in the afterlife due to technology. catch phrases being said over and over. women just being otherworldly. a really dumb wholesome guy (Trev).
#dw#15#god honestly#also the “man-splaining” lines feeling both well-meaning and so out of touch#and just a hint of the misogyny that was never worked through fully#yep thats moffat#it was a GREAT episode imho#but there were so many moments (both pos. and neg.) where i was like yeah this is definitely moffat writing this lmao
