Science history can be fucking crazy
JUST A FEW EXAMPLES:
**The discovery of penicillin may or may not have started with “germ art.” The serendipitous story of Alexander Fleming stumbling on a growth of fungus on one of his petri dishes is well known; this discovery lead to the isolation of penicillin, and the subsequent saving of thousands and thousands of lives. However, what is less well known is the fact that Fleming used to paint with different hued strands of bacteria, and that more and more historians are now thinking that the petri dish that changed the face of science as we know it was little more than another of his “germ paintings” tl/dr Fleming’s artistic flair saved millions.
** Dr. Barry Marshall was convinced that helicobacter pylori caused stomach ulcers; however, the entirety of the medical world refused to believe his theory, and he was struggling to gather evidence. In a fit of desperation, he isolated the bacteria from one of his patients, cultured it, drank the broth, developed an ulcer, wrote a paper, proved the medical world wrong and received a nobel prize. TL/DR: HE FUCKING DRANK DANGEROUS BACTERIA FOR SCIENCE **Dr. Henry Head, back in the early 1900s, was looking into how nerves regenerate after injury. So, naturally, he made one of his doctor friends go in and fucking CUT his fucking RADIAL NERVE (a super big, important nerve in your forearm) and then documented how all of the different sensations came back. He never fully recovered motor (movement) function. tl/dr: doctor cut a giant nerve in his fucking ARM order to research it’s  holy shit what the fuck science is seriously cool, but scientists are super duper cray

There are two types of ‘tired’, I suppose. One is a dire need of sleep, the other is the dire need of peace.

I’ve noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They aren’t determined to revolutionize the world all at once; they’re satisfied with small changes. Over time, though, the small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world.

Excerpt from one of my stories
I’m fine. I’m fine. I’m fine. It’s become a mantra for me, the slippery escape from questions regarding my health and well-being. I glance at her, and wish for a swift moment that she could know, that she could stop the broken record, that she could reach in and grab me from this pit of three-am study sessions and faked ADHD symptoms and empty pill bottles.
I snap back from the edge quickly, and focus back in on the lecture, where our professor has begun an entirely different train of information. In a world where time is the dictator and we are its slaves, anything that wastes it is a sin, and anything that buys it is a God-given miracle. And I, I am a saint who cannot afford a fall from grace.

Excerpt from one of my pieces
I love you. What the child hadn’t anticipated, though, was the multitude of ways that such an admission could be conveyed.
Don’t forget your coat.
Finish your plate, you need your vegetables.
How was your day?
Don’t do that, you could hurt yourself!
Blow out your candles! Then we’ll each get a piece.
The tan, stern and weathered farm woman who suddenly appeared in the child’s life was all hard edges and pursed lips. And life suddenly became all school and cleaning and feeding the chickens. But between the chores and nagging, there was the beauty of the endless midwestern sky and soft good-night hugs. There was Frank Sinatra on the radio and goats that ate everything.
