This was pretty much the first manga series I worked on, and what got me into the scanlation world. So I will allow myself to get emotional after typing these words on a .docx file.
I have finished my very first DoD script on September 25, 2020. And 4,5 years later, today, I have finished my final one. I still remember myself clumsily trying to translate chapter 45, and tonight, I was trying to find the words that'd have the best emotional impact in chapter 79. I've realized that much has changed in my life in these past 4,5 years, except for how much I suck at translating XD
This manga connected me to people from all over the world. I'm glad to know more people can appreciate the effort Shinohara-sensei put into creating this story. I'm also happy that I could help other people enjoy themselves (or more likely, have rage fits because of İbo).
I will one day gather my courage to write Shinohara-sensei an awkward fan letter to tell her she has a fan of her manga in Turkey. For now, I can only thank everyone who worked on the scanlation of DoD before me, and who read along with me.

Hello!! Have the final chapters of the manga come out? / been translated yet? I binged the entire manga last night after starting it in 2018, it was so nice getting caught up with a manga I wanted to finish so long ago!! Thank you for your hard work of scanning
Hi! The final volume's been out since, uh, October 2024... And I have only translated 25% of it so far. This is completely on me, because RL hasn't been going too well. I have motivational problems. But rest assured that I will see this to the end! I might be slow in translating, but I won't let go of this story that is dear to my heart.

Do you think Ibrahim is in love with Suleiman? Because I legitimately cannot think of any other reason to justify how loyal he is. Plus Hatice's comment in the latest chapter about how what ibrahim holds most dear in the world / his top priority is Suleiman... how else are we meant to be taking this
Glad you asked!
I have always been of the opinion that this story needed a touch of more explicit BL-"explicit" in the sense that İbrahim admits that what he feels for Suleiman is more than "loyalty," and his actions are also fueled by jealousy towards Hürrem for stealing Suleiman's affection from him. Because that's how his characters reads to me. Theirs is the worst romance the Ottoman history has ever saw, and Shinohara didn't go full throttle there. The power dynamics between the two men is begging for some more homoeroticism, sensei! There are so many emotions involved in that relationship!
I'm sure that if İbrahim ever shared the same bed with Hatice, he'd have called her "Suleiman-sama." Bro is so obvious.

If you don't mind asks regarding your thoughts on the latest chapter of DoD, why do you think Suleiman is accepting Ibrahim's answer that he supports Mustafa as the eldest prince despite clearly not believing that's all there is to it, and warns him not to err in his judgment of the matter of Mustafa and Mehmed? Do you think it's possible that he knows about Ibrahim and Hurrem's night together and is testing Ibrahim to see if he'll answer truthfully, or something like that?
Hi!
No, I don't mind at all! I think as things stand at the end of our latest release, Suleiman suspects that something is going on between Hürrem and İbrahim, and that something is more than simply politics. Because obviously, one would expect İbrahim to back Mehmed.
But I also feel that Suleiman legit doesn't care if his former boyfriend loyal retainer fucked his waifu or not, and he's genuinely enjoying this "game of thrones." In one of the chapters, he said that he was fine with any of his sons succeeding him provided that he manages to overcome his brothers. That really was how the Ottoman succession worked: there was no heir apparent, and the princes almost always went to war or proceeded to kill each other when their father died. Suleiman's ascension to the throne was an odd case as he didn't have any brothers when his father died, so I feel like manga Suleiman wants to see how the brotherly competition would go, and he finds it amusing.
So, becoming the sultan was a matter of capacity: the prince who could come to the capital first to claim the throne without being toppled by other princes on the road "deserved" the throne. Suleiman wants to keep that tradition, and warns İbrahim not to do petty things like trying to support Mustafa without actually believing him to be the most fit to rule. Anyone can tell that İbrahim is not a huge Mustafa fan. He comes off as anti-Mehmed more than anything.
Like you said, Suleiman is kind of pushing İbrahim to come clean about his motives so that they move on with the tedious state affairs. He wants İbrahim to know he's not buying his fake Mustafa fanboy-ism. He's not a jealous man, but he wants honesty. I don't want to give spoilers, but I just want to say that you'll LOVE chapter 74. ;)
Sorry, I'm just rambling and being incoherent because it's too damn hot here...
tl;dr: Suleiman want İbrahim to know that he knows, and to stop trying to take him for a fool.

Hi I've recently read the manga and it is interesting fr however i cant seem to find chapter 71, did they stopped translating it?
Hi anon!
It's great to hear Hürrem is gaining new readers! Thank you for picking DoD up. I hope you enjoy the two final volumes.
"They", in this case, happens to be me! And no, I have not stopped translating it. I have finished translating ch. 71 fairly recently, and I'm almost done with ch. 72. So, as long as my lovely team, Decadence Scans, stick with me, we'll continue pumping out new chapters.
I would have finished translating the whole volume 19, but welp, real life got really busy for me. Like, really busy. So busy that I still haven't read the whole thing... #pleasesaveme

Hi I hope I don't come off as rude or demanding but I wondering if you would ever want to translate hagio moto's manga Ouhi Margot
Hi anon!
Actually, I'm glad you asked! La Reine Margot is in my never ending list of "I'd like to translate these manga, but don't have enough time to." Also, I'd need to read some French history before reading it, which requires extra time too...
With DoD ending soon, I've started thinking about Margot again. And I'll take this ask as a sign to consider picking it up when DoD is over (and of course, unless someone more competent than me does it).

here's the real question: who tops, suleiman or ibrahim? my vote is ibrahim
The moment of truth... Suleiman gives off top vibes to me, but their relationship is such that if Sülo tells İbo to top, he tops. If he tells İbo to bottom, he bottoms... Do I even make sense? XD

i noticed that in the manga hurrem is already referred to by the "haseki" title preceding the death of suleiman's mother, when to my knowledge he only legally married and created the title "haseki sultan" for hurrem after hafsa died, to solidify her position of authority in the harem. but manga hurrem also doesn't seem to be referred to by the title "sultan" yet, only "haseki." is it a case of historical liberty on the manga's part? and do you think manga hurrem will receive the "sultan" rank separately after being legally married to suleiman, or is she already considered someone with the rank of "sultan" since she's been given the haseki title? sorry about all the questions and tysm for the translations!
Sorry for the late reply, but I had to take a couple of books from my shelves for this XD But shortly after I figured it will take me too much time to do a deep research, so here's my unimportant opinion as an Ottoman history familiar:
When a woman is referred to as "sultan" in the Ottoman Empire, it doesn't mean that she is a "sultan." What I mean is, the Ottoman Empire does not have the "king/queen" or "emperor/empress" duos. You only have the male "sultan" as a ruler. Females being called "sultan" was mostly out of courtesy, and didn't mean that they had an official title in the state protocol.
I believe Hafsa was the first woman to be called "Valide Sultan", using the word "sultan". Also, the sultan's daughters/sisters are also referred as "sultan." For instance, we call Hatice "Hatice Sultan", but I call her simply "Princess Hatice" in the translations to avoid confusing the readers.
As for "haseki"s, they were simply sultan's favorite consort who gave him a son, and sultans had several haseki afterwards. Only the #1 haseki was called "haseki sultan." And again, That didn't make them a "sultan" like the emperor. At best, it meant that she is a woman to be respected because she is important to the sultan himself, like his female kin.
And there is also the mess created by the Europeans, who didn't understand how the Harem worked, and thought that just like their kings have queens, the Ottoman sultan must have a "sultana."
And later on, the use of the title "sultan" fell out of fashion with sultans's wives. So, we can say that even the people concerned didn't attach much meaning to it. And seriously, unless you are the valide sultan, being a "sultan" didn't make you the "sultan of the harem" anyway.
Okay, sorry but I don't even know what I'm getting at and made you read all this rambling XD

Ahem, this one took a while, didn't it? But here we are, with the better Red River bonus manga! It's waiting on our reader and on MD.
I hope the fans are happy with the upcoming reprint, and that this little scanlation will make the wait more bearable.
