The extremely nonchalant and character--breaking half-elf by Emma Stone cracked me up.

Some of my favourite scenes from Batman Ninja.
Undoubtedly, the scene that stood out the most for me was Red Hood’s encounter with a memory-loss Joker and Harley. The art style (reminiscent of The Tale of the Princess Kaguya) turned into a mix of watercolour and sketch giving the scene a sense of lucidness and melancholic peace.
It was like the world was going to end tomorrow for the creators, and they were tasked with creating the last Batman movie. What we get is a beautiful, over-the-top, ridiculous movie. Crazy ridiculous, but a ton of fun.

Tomb Raider (2018 movie) An overall okay movie to watch, but a pity that it didn’t do more to take leverage as a franchise reboot. Taking many inspirations from the 2013 game, for players this would seem like watching a cinematic short from the game instead of watching a movie. I wish more was done to build on the audience’s attachment towards Lara, but many scenes felt like they were hastily done to explain her character development, as they ran through it within a few minutes (e.g. couriering to escape from her problems, learning how to use her bow, deciphering cryptic puzzles, and a 3 min unconvincing crush development during a ship journey ). Watching Lara thrown around a river, dropping into a forest floor and then making her first kill all within 10 min felt like an lazy expose of how Lara becomes the tough Tomb Raider. The final reveal of how she acquired her double pistols was another disappointment, since this could’ve been used to a better effect. Perhaps the most interesting part is when finally, we see Lara’s smarts shine when she solves the mystery of Himiko’s myth. I appreciated the movie for not leaving the “monster” as a superstition and roped it back as myth mixed with reality. Nothing like a slight horror. But more scenes of Lara being an intelligent and capable explorer/ archaeologist would’ve been welcomed. Nonetheless, I liked Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider, (despite her character being terribly one dimensional and flat), and hope that the sequel (if any) would take their story-telling more seriously and allow her and the franchise to shine better.
