The process of “training” Shelldon was long and arduous. Turns out, April didn’t know that much about taking care of a hatchling terrible terror either.

The forge had already been set on fire several times, which he supposed would be a useful trick if Shelldon would aim at the part that’s supposed to be on fire.

“Maybe we should try rewarding him when he does something good?” April suggested with a shrug. The terror was currently climbing all over the shelf Donnie used to stored his projects.

“Well he has to do something good for that to work,” Donnie grumbled, crossing his arms. He leaned against a wall and let himself slide down onto the floor, his legs outstretched. He probably looked like a pouting child.

The terror perked up as it climbed to the very top of the shelf. His eyes locked onto Donnie and he took a couple of steps back. The soft shell raised a brow at the hatchling.

Shelldon continued to stare at him as it started to wiggle its hind legs and stretch out its wings. Donnie’s eyes widened as the little guy jumped from his perch and started frantically flapping his wings.

Both him and April moved to catch the terror. April came in too low and fell on the ground as the terror flew over her.

Donnie almost tripped over her as he rushed to grab onto the falling dragon. Instead, Shelldon landed square on his chest and knocked him back.

He let out a yelp as he fell to the ground, his arms wrapping around the little dragon instead of reaching out to try and catch himself.

Laying on his back, Donnie held tightly onto Shelldon as he tried to catch his breath.

“Why was that so terrifying?” He asked the ceiling. Shelldon chirped at him.

Donnie turned his eyes down to the dragon. He was wagging his tail and was firmly grappled onto Donnie’s chest. He was using the straps to Donnie’s battle shell to hold on even tighter.

Shelldon chirped again. Donatello chirped back almost without thinking. Shelldon crawled forward and licked his face.

“Ew- gross!” He exclaimed as he heard April laughing. He wiped at his face and pushed Shelldon away as the dragon continued trying to lick him.

Donnie sat up, holding Shelldon out in front of him. The terror tilted his head inquisitively.

“At least you’re cute,” Donnie said with a tired smile. April came up to sit next to him. She leaned forward to scratch behind Shelldon’s horn. The dragon cooed gently.

“Aw, he likes it!” She exclaimed. “Aren’t you a sweet little terror?” She started using her baby-voice that was usually reserved for Mayhem. The typhoomerang really might get jealous if he saw this.

Donnie put Shelldon down. He started to walk in circles on Donnie’s lap, then he curled up and laid down.

“I guess he’s finally tired.” Donnie sighed, his shoulders slumping.

“Him and me both,” April grumbled. She collapsed onto her back, lying sprawled out, with a huff.

“You wanna take my room? I can stay in here.” He offered. He had a small hammock up in the corner, tied between a shelf and a small hook he was able to install in the wall. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but it made for an excuse as to why he’d come out to breakfast from the forge instead of his room whenever he pulled an all nighter that he wasn’t supposed to.

“Nah, I should be getting home.” She declined. April stood up, stretching as she pulled her elbow over her head. “Don’t want my mom or Mayhem freaking out.”

“Yikes, good luck with that,” he sympathized.

“Hamato Donatello!” A booming voice echoed from down the hall. All three of them froze and stared at the entrance to the lab.

“Yeah. You’re gonna need more luck than me,” April said snarkily as she moved to make her escape, running out the door and down another tunnel.

“No…” Donnie mumbled pathetically as he curled around Shelldon. He was so dead.

Oh I adore this circus aus are so fun (I blame Hawkeye for my obsession) and yessss on Donnie being super flexible I love that hc :)

I have an AU idea.

It’s a separated AU. What if all the brothers except Donnie were raised by Splinter, but Donnie was raised in some sort of entertainment facility, like a circus? I headcannon him as a very flexible turtle, like he can backbend halfway and do all these crazy tricks? What if those skills were enhanced by the ppl in the circus and he was a contortionist??

So he’s raised in there for all his life until obvi the others retrieve him. But before that, Donnie wonders if he ever had any siblings, and the boss of the circus has kept him confined in this facility and is lowk neglectful. He kind of abuses all the ppl he works with, including Donnie. He makes them work and perform for insanely long hours on end without break. At some point in time, enough is enough, and Donnie wants OUT. So, he makes multiple attempts to sneak out, of which he fails and is caught and punished.

But then, he makes it out, burning the place down in the process. So then he tries to make a life for himself for some time until the others find him. Splinter then explains that Donnie is their brother and they accept him and learn abt what he has been doing his whole life.

And in between ALL THAT, he still has his sciencey interests in robots, uranium, etc. In fact, during his time in the circus, he made time for building things and enhancing his work other than being insanely flexible.

He thought he could be more than some pawn in a big game. And he slowly finds himself by sneaking out to read books abt mechanics and other things. He also sometimes finds his brothers going out on missions, but never finds the courage to talk to them.

He has lots of trauma from that place, but will find his family…eventually.

WHOA THATS A LOT OF YAPPING. But what do u guys think? This is just an idea in my head, but who knows?

Another reason why rottmnt deserved more seasons, I literally forgot they had to get a new base and it’s only shown once or twice in the movie we need to get moments of them all there because it makes me sad that their home was destroyed

Heyyyyy~ are you going to be merging the two worlds of httyd and rise? Will we only see Rise characters or will there be some httyd cameos? (Hiccup, snotlout, etc)

Also what's your favorite dragon and which one do you think would be the most dangerous for the turtles to have to fight against >:)

I’m not really planning on having any httyd character present, maybe just references to them. The au is set where the people are already kind of getting used to dragons, but the turtles had nothing to do with it so maybe I’ll reference hiccup a bit with that (but there won’t be any actual appearances of the characters)

I think right now my favorite is the fireworm mainly cuz of an au I have on my main blog where Snotlout ends up having to raise a fireworm since in the au the cavern crasher ended up killing the fireworm queen in that one episode (though my second favorite is the sentinel)

I think speedstingers would be the most difficult for the turtles to deal with mainly because they’re pack animals and are so quick. Half the time you don’t even know they’re coming so I doubt the turtles would be able to easily face them >:)

Hc that Donnie is actually super flexible since he’s the only one with a spine (I think I couldn’t get a clear answer on google 😔) but doesn’t show it off at all and gives that title to Mikey since he’s so proud of his acrobatics

So I just found out that big mama’s assistant was supposed to have a whole season build up or whatever to reveal that they were a long lost sibling of the turtles?? We were ROBBED

April had insisted on not bringing a destructive hatchling into her home, already having one that tended to get jealous easily.

She had made Donnie bring her to his forge, but he only did so on the promise she would neither touch anything or tell the others what they were up to.

Of course, both of them were horrendous liars, Donnie because of the awkward way he talked when he was lying, and April for the quilt she would feel afterwards along with the slight stutter. Leo caught them halfway through the liar, sneaking through the atrium.

“And what might you two be doing at this odd hour?” He asked in a cheeky tone like he was insinuating something.

“Nothing- nothing at all!” Donnie almost yelled back. “I just finished a new project and thought April would appreciate it!” He said with a toothy smile, just short of being normal.

“Right! He promised he’d make me a new axe after last mission.” she cut Donnie a glare with no real malice. He supposed he did need to get on that.

“Oh good. I’d love to see it,” Leo said with that grin that meant he knew exactly what he does doing. Donnie silently cursed his twin for being so nosy.

“Oh but wouldn’t it be cooler if you saw it in action first?” Donnie suggested, “like the drill! Think about how revolutionary that’ll be once it’s done.” He was really grasping at straws.

Before Leo could answer, Donnie grabbed his shoulders and started walking him towards his own room, away from the forge.

“Oh come on!” Leo whined, “now I’m excited.”

“It’ll have to wait.” Donnie grit his teeth. He pushed Leo into his room and bolted away.

“Oh my Thor, fine!” Leo yelled after him, “but I’m telling Raph that you’re hiding something!” And wasn’t that a lovely thought?

Donnie flipped him off as he ran back towards the atrium. Stupid twin sense. Stupid, nosey, dumb dumb Leo!

It wasn’t really that Donnie wanted to hide this from his family, it was more that he wanted to be given the time to handle this on his own (with a bit of big sister April help). Despite being totally capable of most things, he couldn’t help but feel coddled by his brothers, especially in battle when he didn’t have a dragon. Even if Shelldon wouldn’t be able to do much to fix that, the little hatchling was still a new opportunity to prove himself.

Because he didn’t need his brothers to get him out of every little mess. He could handle himself perfectly fine.

I’m kind of debating on this but I might make it so the turtles were also made using different dragon dna in my au…

Ofc it’d be different species than the dragons they actually ride since their dragons are more based on their personality while draxum would probably use dna that would best fit their physical prowess’

I saw a clip from a compilation where someone was filming a Softshell Turtle running in the street along the curb before slipping into a storm drain.

And all I could think was Rise Donnie is that you?!

It took Donnie a couple of days to fully come to terms with the fact that he had a dragon. He thought he prepared perfectly for it.

He had plenty of extra fish since Raph tended to overfeed Buddy. He had a comfortable place for it to make a nest. He even went and stole a look at the book of dragons to see everything he could about Terrible Terrors.

He might’ve gotten into a bit of trouble with that one, having almost been caught by humans. He really needed to figure out a way to transcribe the book so he could stop risking his life for just a smidgen of information at a time. The humans might be a bit more open to dragons, but still didn’t know a thing about mutants or yokai

Oh well, the thrill of the hunt, or whatever the foot lieutenant called it every time he started monologuing.

Turns out, having everything he thought he needed wasn’t nearly enough.

The Terror would cry and bite and claw at him any chance he got. Feeding him did nothing, and it somehow only angered him more?

He also refused to sleep anywhere but in the pile of his discarded egg shells. That at least gave Donnie an idea for a name: Shelldon.

Donnatello had little to no idea on what to do. And so, he went to the only person he could.

Sitting in the windowsill to April’s home, he quietly waited for the girl to come upstairs from where she was eating dinner with her family. He scratched under Mayhem’s neck, jealous that April got the sweet and cuddly hatchling.

“Donnie!” April scream-whispered in surprise, “what are you doing here?” She asked. Mayhem’s head shot up and the little Typhoomerang flew towards her, clawing onto her chest.

“So,” Donnie started, having not really thought on what all to tell April. He hadn’t told his brothers a thing, brushing off the entire explosion in his lab as just a furnace mishap. “I might have a teensy little problem.”

“And?” April asked, sounding unimpressed.

“How do you take care of a baby terrible terror?” He spat out quickly, his words stumbling over each other as he spoke.

“Eugh boy.”

Draxum - sandbuster, this dragon likes to sulk underground, waiting for its prey to fall into its trap. Though they do have a very potent weakness of sunlight, leaving it to have to stay underground. Baron could also have a changewing, symbolizing his scheming nature as well as how he as a person changed greatly throughout the show

In the au April’s typhoomerang is actually Mayhem! He’s a hatchling at this point but still has taken it upon himself to steal from draxum

They meet the same way and April ends up taking him in, so as of right now she doesn’t have a giant dragon just yet, but soon enough he’ll grow big and strong!
