The irony of this post, granted, idk the date it was posted. Same though. I wish it was very different.
Heeey, of things you would like, and things you would not want to happen to Nesta in the next book?
Aha thank you for this ask!! I really enjoyed answering it even though you may not agree with all my answers🤗I’m happy to answer any further questions you may have for me from my answers and I may add to them as I think of more.
Things that I don’t want to happen to Nesta in the next book:
Nessian
Her apologising to others
Mor manipulating more situations
Nesta letting Elain’s behaviour towards her slide. And Feyre’s. And Cassian’s. And Mor’s. And Rhys.
Things that I want to happen to Nesta in the next book:
Accept herself
Find her own inner circle
Never feel intimidated by others
Come into her power
Grieve her father and confront all her feelings about him.
Talk about her mother.
Show her visiting their graves
The beginning of neris/nerista/erista (I’m thinking a healthy slow burn)
Healthy relationships
Confront the others on their isolation of her and on how they treated her.
Not accepting anyone’s BS
Having a completely terrifying familiar that never accepts anyone else, especially not Cassian. Not even Elain. It’s completely hers and only tolerates others. Barely.
For her to learn enough to defend herself and not rely on others but usually save herself by her own wits rather than through physical force.
Leave the Illyrian war camp and claim a place that’s completely her own.
Create a home for herself, completely comfortable, cozy and all her own design with little trinkets reminding her of those she loves (including the wooden carvings of from her father)
To bond with the librarians in every court.
Start a book club in the prison that the Bone Carver was kept in.
Say goodbye to Cassian, even if he apologises.
In fact don’t fully accept anyone’s apologies. But if she does she would forgive but not forget or let things slide.
Not give any member of the IC her complete trust.
Bond with Azriel. I feel like they could have a really good platonic friendship.
Also have friendships with Lucien, Tamlin and those from the winter court.
Have friends from the ‘lesser’ areas of velaris.
Become High Lady in her own right. (Not through marriage, but I won’t turn down her eventually gaining the title of High Lady if the Autumn Court)
Show her ‘creative talent’ if Elain can grow and bake and Feyre can paint then Nesta has a talent.
Find out what’s going on with her and Amren.
Hear her give a full musically lilting belly laugh and watch as a room turns and falls into stunned silence from her bright joy filled smile and sounds.
Come back to a healthy weight

You guys are speaking facts.  I’d add that Morrigan has purposely lead on her closest “friends” who she considers better than family about the situation with Autumn Court & Hewn City. Not even Rhysand knows what fully went on with her, but allowed her to be sketchy for 500+ years without explanation.  As previously stated, Nesta is treated horribly by Mor purely off of Feyre’s word. I understand she’s her High Lady, but even prior to that being true, Mor was nasty to her. LIKE, we’re not gonna skate past that and idgaf what little communication you had when Nesta turned submissive in ACOSF, but Morrigan has serious making up to do with everyone.
Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Morrigan
So when we first met Morrigan in ACOMAF, I was pretty sure she was going to be one of my favorite characters. She seemed so kind and legit (plus my name is Morgan) so I was 10/10 prepared to love this chick.
You know how some characters you like, even though they have deep flaws or questionable characteristics? You want to see them grow or you can still just appreciate them– even if you don’t agree with their thoughts or choices.
After ACOWAR, Mor was not like that for me. Out of all of SJM’s characters, she’s the only one I couldn’t care less about reading more of her story. It’s so disappointing in a way.
Some reasons why I think that may be *deep breath* :
I don’t like her personality; probably because she’s a big feeler and majority of her reactions are emotionally driven (balance is good…)
I don’t like how she treats Nesta. Even if I understand her dislike of the woman, Nesta has never done anything to Mor personally, and yet Mor intentionally treats her badly (this goes back to point #1)
I don’t like how she is possessive of Cassian and Azriel. Not protective, possessive. If you notice, all the little social situations where she puts herself between Cassian and Nesta, she does it in a way that makes Cassian have to choose her. Like, she can’t just redirect the situation, Mor has to have his attention for herself
And finally….the big one…I abhor how she treats Azriel. She has contributed to his emotional abuse and insecurities for most of his life, and even though he has some responsibility in letting her have that power, Mor refuses to be honest with him. I think we can all agree, she doesn’t need to tell him about her sexuality in order to have an open conversation with him about where they stand. In ACOWAR, she mentions she’s had moments she’s pictured wanting a life with Az, but honey. it’s been hundreds of years and abundantly clear you don’t want that.
(making this the last bullet point because I’m ranting now) It’s SO ironic to me her gift is Truth, but she’s never had the integrity to be honest with Azriel. We don’t really see her intentionally leading him on, per se, but because they are intensely close as confidants and friends, she has let him hope and consciously hurts him by making it obvious she’d rather sleep with other people like Helion. What a bitch move. (And people say Nesta acts like a bitch….Mor is supposed to be exponentially older and wiser).
So maybe it’s a combination of my personal dislikes of certain personalities and the fact that I’m supposed to like her character as part of the inner circle. Because a lot of SJM’s characters are problematic and have major flaws but I love them regardless. I just wish SJM had made her more well-rounded and likable.

So I’m pretty sure Papa Archeron is the only person to have ever told Netsa he loved her. I doubt her mother, described as cold and uncaring, ever told either of the girls she loved them and if Feyre and Elain are like my sibling, they probably didn’t either - not because they don’t care for Nesta but probably because their current relationship made it hard and scary to share their sisterly love.
So her father told her he loved her. And died right after. Just imagine how hard that must have impacted her - she, who always believed her father didn’t care enough for them and who probably never thought someone could ever really love her, was proven wrong and finally had someone who explicitly told her he loved her just to lose that person right after.

If Nessian is endgame, I want a rewrite of ACOSF.
Okay but did you see that podcast Sarah j maas did and she talked about the nessian book and said that nessian is endgame and there are lots of sex scenes?
Hi, no I didn’t see the podcast and only found out that Nessian has been confirmed as endgame from another ask.
But if that’s true then I’m probably going to commit to my plan of not reading the Nessian book.
As much as I love Nesta I’m just not sure I can stomach Cassian with Nesta. I’m too invested in Eris and Nesta being together now, aha. Plus, I feel like I’ve gone off of S.J.Maas, which is a shame because her concepts are good, she has some great characters and is a good writer but I feel like she has been doing each of these things injustices in her work lately. And I also feel like sex scenes aren’t necessary tbh, I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen but you don’t have to write every detail and none of it has ever added to the story. I was able to completely skip over the scenes like this included in her last book and I didn’t miss anything plot wise or in character development so what was the point in them?

i want to read this. badly.
how close to cannon is your heart as it is before the fic starts ??? does nesta still sleep with cassian (ew) before she runs away
Very canon actually!
And so like canon, in the depths of despair, hatred, and the fact that Cassian thinks she's a nightmare but wants her- that magnetism exists, even when she's half-starved and miserable- Nesta sleeps with him.
And LIKE CANON- it's absolutely an act of self-loathing.
Except of course, Nesta has snapped. There's no lingering sense that she didn't deserve Cassian's touch, Cassian's supposed kindness. There is, however...a sense of shame?
It sort of comes out obliquely between her and Eris- and later in the story, when she talks to Lucien about how matebonds work- the fact of the matter is, Nesta doesn't say her fears or shitty thoughts aloud. Eris just is very, very good at intuiting them- they're afraid of so very many of the same things.
She had Cassian the only way Cassian actually wanted her.
And the bond didn't even snap to place.
It was too broken for that- it's my favorite tiny arc actually SPOILERS but like...Nesta doesn't even smell like Cassian. Cassian DIDN'T FEEL IT, when Nesta mixed her soul with Eris. The bond is fundamentally broken between them.
The terrible sex is proof.
Meanwhile, Cassian, who's first words to Nesta the next time he sees her are about Morrigan- Cassian is out here acting like the wronged party.
She left- but he broke it first. And we're going to talk about the exact moment.

You know… I have many complaints.
But one of my many complaints is that Cassian doesn’t have enough worship Nesta Archeron energy. I cannot be the only one who thinks so. Look at Nesta stans. Some would say we have too much worship Nesta Archeron energy.
But Cassian… he doesn’t have enough and that’s his entire problem. He worships her body, which you know is VERY clear in the book. But what about her soul? Her personality? Her moods? Her whole entire being? Not just the potential that she has. But like the Eris, I’ve known you for two seconds and I’ll put a ring on it right now energy, we needed more of that.

Part 1. Agree 100% Part 2. That bs about her father being brought was repulsive at best. What did you mean when you wrote, “ Also, you literally have to be blind to not see the likeness between what tamlin did not f/eyre and what she did to nesta. even with rhys’s fake “choice” bs” ? I’m confused. Outside that, FACTS! No wonder anti- Nesta’s despise her so much after this book. Part 3. If Nesta killing the Mortal Queen from a scream after thinking the man she “loved” died doesn’t prove she wasn’t fully healed (cause this woman was at death’s door minutes before the Blood Rite ended), then Idk what will. Reminded me of how Rhysand “misted” all those soldiers on the ship against Hybern, but amplified cause of girl, Nesta, sucked the life out of the trees in the area. If anything, Nesta should have become a Carythian with her besties after killing Emerie’s cousin, BUT NOOOO, can’t have her on the same level as Rhysand, Azriel, Cassian, Emerie, nor Gwyn when she’s going to give up everything in the last 50 pages. That law was created out of spite from Rhysand threatening and wanting to kill her since he heard of her. Yuck! Part 4. Ties into what I said about part 3. This Death God trope is part of the reason I knew Nesta would not be a strong character in this book. Every Death God before her seemed to slaughter only a few dozen soldiers at a time during the Battle of Hybern, and Rhysand over here “misted” several hundred in seconds. NEXT, After reading how terrified Rhysand was exiting her mind that night, Rhysand continued his “I’m the king so bow down” attitude, I knew he would give word to everyone in the IC that Nesta needed to be controlled. SO, when Nesta was introduced at Hewn City, it felt awesome because she didn’t need to exudes her power for them to KNOW not to mess with her. Even then, Eris didn’t back away from a dance with her simply due to her aura/stance/magnitude/etc. Eris danced with her and spoke to her as a person, if not friend, going as far as to risk his life before them to say that Morrigan is lying. NOW YOU TELL ME, who in their right mind would risk their life to inform someone THEY BARELY KNOW about the truth.  Anywho, I don’t like this book. If Elain ends up becoming a pretty princess in the coming books, I’m dropping this series like nobodies business.
my acosf rant
Part 1.
“Is she a witch.” I opened my mouth, but Nesta said flatly, “Yes.” And I watched as nine full-grown, weathered Illyrian warlords flinched.
this is one of my all-time favorite Nesta quotes because it shows how purely intimidating she is. She doesn't need to resort to violence or displays of power or have any position of authority to be scary, she just is. acotar is always talked about as this "feminist" book, but all of sjm's "strong female characters" were always so reliant on men. f/eyre went under the mountain for tamlin, she got her powers from r/hysand, she got her authority from r/hysand, all of the women in the ic got their jobs from nepotism! but nesta was strong alone and she was stoic and intimidating even as a human (her will was so strong she could resist tamlin's spell!?) and you never see female characters get to be like that! but after acosf i felt like those qualities got completely steamrolled and nesta had Stockholm syndrome or something because it put her in this position of being in debt to the ic for 'fixing her" and making her strong again from Cassian's love and training. I wish her healing arc was more focused on her and her keeping that coldness and that attitude that made her who she was while also healing from her past trauma. All of her past trauma, including her sexual assault and her problems with her mother and father, which were literally barely touched on????
Part 2.
God this book made me hate the ic even more than i already did. Yes, including cassian and elain. I just don't get how there was such a severe lack of understanding from literally everyone... were we supposed to hate them???? I mean Mor alone and all that shit about how Nesta belonged in the hewn city? how could she wish that on another woman? It was so clear that everyone wanted nesta to be fixed for feyre and cassian's sake and no one actually cared about her. and CASSIAN. God... what happened? I loved him and nesta in acomaf and acowar because he was so sweet and actually tried with her but in this book? he was literally straight out the gate with that, "Not eating won't bring your father back". (literally chapter 5) Excuse me??! if he said that to me I would have slapped the shit out of him. who do you think you are? why would he say that? I get he was frustrated but it felt so out of character for him and their relationship. he was either talking shit about/ to her or drooling over her for a majority of the book and was r/hysand's fucking lapdog most of the time even though rhys is clear about the fact that he hates her so obviously she doesn't like him either?? Also, you literally have to be blind to not see the likeness between what tamlin did not f/eyre and what she did to nesta. even with rhys's fake "choice" bs. As for Elain, I'm just tired. This bitch was just as unhelpful in the human world and during the war, even more than nesta, and everyone just gives her a pass because she was "nice". Literally when you compare them, what did nesta do to the ic?? what did she do to mor and rhys and amren that made them hate her so intensely? I know they're supposed to not like her/have problems w her but it just felt so much deeper and I feel like they literally talk about hating her more than the actual villain of the book. AND NO ONE APOLOGIZES. Nesta is the only one who ever apologizes (for being rude and depressed???) the ENTIRE BOOK????? a whole fucking joke.
Tumblr media
Part 3.
Nothing can convince me she actually healed. She literally tells cassian that she's still hanging onto her humanity near the end of the book and this is just brushed over? there were no conversations about why she did anything, her sexual assault, her mother, her relationship w the ic. there were just events and then suddenly everything was fine. you're telling me she saved feyre's life and then everything was just fine between her and r/hysand? you're telling me she survived the bloodrite, made up with cassian, and then was just fine with not being human anymore? you're telling me amren and rhysand made up some bullshit law to make nesta go to the house of wind and that was never addressed???
Part 4.
I so wanted nesta to be this insanely powerful death goddess. apparently no one can be more powerful than rhys though, so she had to lose that too. I felt like her having steal powers from the cauldron was actually a good plot point and good retribution for what it did to her and elain, and was a good character choice and showed how vengeful nesta could be. we honestly never even got to explore her powers that much (what does pure death mean... pls flesh out your characters power sjm I'm begging you) and I wanted to see her embrace that power and use it for good. (or evil. I feel a villain arc would have been completely justified.) All of her power was constantly being taken from her by the ic and its always seen as "in her best interest" when it's literally just gaslighting. Even the swords she made were taken from her and given to KiNg R/hySaNd because of course they were.
In conclusion.
I hate this book the more i think about it and honestly idk if i can ship canon nessian after this book. I lowkey ship nesta and eris becoming an anti-hero duo and her embracing her death powers in the autumn court because autumn is the season where even though everything is dying it's still beautiful, and just ugh..... i relate so much to nesta (i like to think she is a fellow intj) and she deserves so much better than what acosf did to her. I will give props to sjm for Gywn and Emerie because queen nesta was in need of some new strong female friends who were not associated with the ic. they were nice to nesta like once and she was literally bffs with them after that. Why was everyone else so fucking awful. honestly if i were in nesta's place i would have probably said ykw?? send me to the human world. ill die out of spite you whores

My Sneaky Brain’s AU
AU = alternative universe WHAT IF :
After Nesta & Cassian are married, they split up - you can say it was because they were put in an impossible position like Helion and the Lady of the Autumn Court OR Rhysand’s war plans with Koschei tear them apart OR something happens that makes Rhysand say F U to Nesta even though he owes her his and his family’s life and yeets her from the Night Court OR you decide
THEN Nesta is cast back to Prythian, but Rhysand isn’t HIGH KING, so he can only really keep her out of ALLIED lands, if that (cause our boy Helion still wants a slice).
SOMEHOW, Nesta and Eris find each other in Spring Court whilst Tamlin doesn’t have himself together and start chatting prior to Cassian or whoever decides to show up for their secret meetup.
The two chat it off and Eris convinces Nesta to head back to the Autumn Court with him, therefore missing his secret meeting (subtly telling the Night Court to piss off by doing this)
Lord Beron MEETS Nesta, and they end up playing MASSIVE court politics during her entire stay there, but she’s fed and clothed
In secret, Nesta and Eris are planning for his take-down BY THEMSELVES, aka without the Night Court and outsiders
Nesta being the “witch” she is, creates a potion to enhance Eris’ powers that can only be made once (obviously)
PLUS, Nesta is still in control of an ENTIRE Dead Trove and steals it from the Night Court's possession the moment Eris sits on the throne as High Lord.
They attack during a ball celebrating their coming union with Autumn Court officials/royals/nobility and SUCCEED
Eris is now High Lord of Autumn Court
High Lord Eris has the entire remaining court’s attention and states his future wife is Nesta Archeron
The marriage ceremony would take place the next day leaving little to no time for interference.
He marries Nesta and announces it to the world AFTER THEY HAVE WED even mentioning that Nesta currently possesses the Dead Trove (it’s politics, after all) - they kept it quiet since everyone in the Night Court thought Nesta was still in Prythian or managed to leave the continent or whatever
Maybe even Nesta becomes a High Lady herself
The two already have Lord Keir and the Court of Nightmares in their pocket
The Valkyries decide to stick with Nesta over the bargain they made or make. #girlpower #alwaysstickingtogether #newfamily
The alliances between the Night Court and other courts would now be vulnerable
Each court must decide which court to pledge allegiance to
Autumn Court - Risk death by Nesta with the Dead Trove and Eris’ growing flames
Night Court - War from the Night Court
High Lord Eris & (High Lady) Nesta seeing each other as equals in power (you could say the two fell in love or hold equal blackmail on the other therefore never betraying one another), gather allies from across the world without the Night Court, until THEY become THE ultimate power.
Meanwhile, Cassian is fuming about Nesta being with Eris especially after he called the man a coward for not already killing his abusive father (like okay Cas, not everyone can/will do that)
Mor & Cassian get into multiple fights about what he sees in her other than being his mate to the point the entire IC gets involved.
Amren is saying stuff like, “how typical of Nesta to only think about power and herself” but you’d mix in Nesta being poorly treated by the Night Court a month after her mating ceremony - Why? You decide
Elain as a Seer already knows which way this will end, but keeps her mouth closed
Feyre tries sending letters to her sister, Nesta, but after the first few, all letters from the Night Court are burned without regard to their contents (this could be a Lord Beron order or simply out of safety or whatever).
Rhysand is having to plan a hostile take over as his enemies start popping up from all sides of the globe, enemies Nesta & Eris will have to face as well.
Azriel is working himself ill to keep the Night Court as up to date on foreign and domestic issues
THEY BATTLE Koschei or whatever other evil comes up and take him or them DOWN together
End of the war, Nesta ends up PREGNANT! with Eris’s baby (no affairs shall be had here)
Slowly, but surely, the Night Court loses power and crumbles itself from within as the new leaders of Prythian arise (this can be before or after the final battle).
Epilogue - X years later, Eris & Nesta are a formidable force with a massive kingdom and talented offspring that inherited their gifts (you decide which ones)
HIGH KING AND QUEEN, Eris & Nesta
I think this would be very cool to read.
