The Secret Scandal | Series Part 1

Series Summary: After Lord Steven Rogers returns from his summer travels nearly unrecognizable, Lord James Barnes discovers he can't take his eyes off his oldest friend.

Lord James Barnes or — as his closest friends and sisters call him — Bucky is seated by the window as he always is mid-morning. He has a book in his hands, just as typically, staring out across the way at the Rogers' house.

His best friend, Steve, is due to arrive home any minute now from his long summer travels. It is entirely unforseen that Bucky would ever not recognize someone he has known since childhood but alas, it happens on this very morning.

A tall and very broad man departs from a carriage and it takes nearly a whole minute before Bucky recognizes the man as his very good friend, Steve.

For before his travels, Lord Steven Rogers was a much smaller and skinnier man than Bucky. In fact, Bucky for many years has teased Steve about their size difference but it seems with an evident growth spurt, Steve has also managed to put on quite an addition of muscle.

Bucky can't help his eyes from wandering, from practically gawking, at his friend. The massive difference is uncanny and what is more bizarre is the pool of heat that surfaces in Bucky's lower abdomen. This isn't the first time heat has pooled from the sight of a male presence. It is a growing occurrence that Lord Barnes has been desperately attempting to disregard especially now that another marriage season is upon them.

His mother, Lady Winnifred Barnes, is eager for Bucky to get married as he is the eldest of his sisters and the only male heir left. His father passed from a tragic accident years prior. As did Steve's father. Another similarity the boys initially bonded over when the Rogers' first moved in across the street.

Oppositely, Steve has always been eager to marry but previously, his frail frame did not beckon much interest. He was envious of the attention Bucky received and although he attempted to hide this Bucky knew of his jealousy. Bucky only felt remorse due to his lack of desire to wed. He wished he could relocate the female interest he received to his best friend Steve who wanted it so much more.

Bucky doesn't get a chance to converse with Steve until they meet in the square later that afternoon. Albeit, it takes a few minutes before the swarm of young ladies surrounding Steve finally disperses and Bucky can have a moment alone with his friend.

Bucky's face must have an expression that catches Steve's notice for he says, "Bucky! You look surprised to see me."

"I must admit, you have changed much since your travels," Bucky responds candidly.

"Yes, indeed I have."

"I did not know that much change could come from a single summer."

"Is that jealously, I sense?"

"No. It is only that since you are bigger, I can no longer tease you for our difference in size."

"Meaning I must now tease you," Steve smirks.

"But you must remember I do not take defeat well."

"Is it defeat simply because I am now bigger and stronger than you?"

"You claim to be stronger as well?" Bucky narrows his eyes playfully.

Steve leans closer to propose, "Shall we put our strength to the test?"

Bucky's face colors at the offer. It is suddenly an extremely tempting suggestion and allows Bucky's mind to fall to crude, unacceptable images of Lord Rogers holding him down. A vision he'd never imagined before.

"Perhaps at a later date," Bucky remarks stiffly.

"Very well."

"For now, you must enlighten me with your tales of Paris," Bucky probes.

"Of course," Steve's face lights up at the subject. "In all honesty, Paris was a gift to me. It taught me many great things. Not only how to indulge in such divine food but I was introduced to some of the greatest pleasures I've ever known."

The inflection in his voice makes 'pleasures' sound risqué, Bucky is not sure if he's imagining this although it would be very plausible for those kinds of 'pleasures' to be easily experienced in a foreign country.

In fact, he notices now that Steve is acting much more mature and comfortable within his new frame. It is the way he holds himself now, the way he dresses, the way he speaks. It all appears so different, making that dreaded heat simmer in Bucky's center once more.

More so, it is evident Steve's travels have given him much experience, experience Bucky does not have. And for the first time, Bucky feels inferior to his very good friend.

"I see. Sounds quite thrilling," Bucky expresses.

"Oh, it was," Steve affirms, smiling to himself as if consumed by a blissful memory.

Bucky wills himself not to stare especially when Lord Rogers is unaware of his momentary daze.

"I shall see you at the ball, tonight?" Bucky addresses.

Steve blinks out of his stupor and nods swiftly.

"Yes. I shall see you then, Buck."

The ball is no respite for Bucky. He escorts his mother into the ballroom with his sisters in tow but the moment they enter, his gaze finds Steve. And in proper formal attire, well, the man is more captivating than ever.

Lady Winnifred Barnes is already murmuring in his ear about various ladies he should offer a dance to. Across the way he sees Lady Sarah Rogers doing the same in Steve's ear.

Bucky dances this evening. It might be his first dance in over a year since he has meticulously avoided participating in previous seasons. But tonight, he wants a distraction from the friend he's known the longest. And dancing will take his mind and lingering eyes off Steve Rogers.

His mother is ecstatic to see him on the dance floor but as expected Steve finds it greatly unusual to see Bucky with a lady on the floor. What's more rare is to see Steve there too, finally having his offer for a dance accepted.

Bucky should be happy for his friend. This is what Steve has always wanted. To be allowed on the dance floor, to find a wife and marry. But strangely, Bucky finds the sight sickening and makes his stomach twist in dreadful knots. He has no idea why he feels so awful.

After the dance, Bucky excuses himself from the floor and tells his mother he has fallen ill. She worriedly escorts him outside to the carriage where he is promptly returned home.

It is hours past the ball when the maid tells Bucky he has a visitor. Bucky treads down the stairs and stops short when he sees Steve standing in the grand foyer.

Bucky makes his way to the last step and nods at their maid who leaves them at once for privacy.

"Steve, what are you doing here?"

"I wanted to make sure you were well. I heard you grew ill at the ball."

"It must have been a fluke with my stomach. I am much better now."

"Oh, good," Steve remarks, smiling.

An odd pause falls between them.

"I saw you on the dance floor," Bucky points out with a small smile.

"I saw you as well."

"I suppose this year is welcoming a lot more change."

"I suppose so," Steve agrees. "I was happy to see you out there."

Bucky nods and swallows.

"I was happy for you as well. It appears society likes you larger," Bucky comments. His cheeks grow warm when he hears himself.

"I suppose they do," Steve concords. "And of course, society has always liked you."

Bucky blinks. He finds he is constantly rethinking every sentence his friend speaks since his return.

"But I never liked society," Bucky quips.

"I am quite aware," Steve laughs and then looks at Bucky genuinely. "Did you find any lady of interest to you, tonight?"

"I fear not," Bucky says and fidgets with his hands. "And you?"

"I liked many," Steve expresses. "However, to be frank, Paris has opened me up to a world of possibilities. For once, I feel I can be... selective."

"You mean, greedy," Bucky sneers.

Steve opens his mouth to protest but gradually, a shy smile forms instead. "Perhaps, a little."

Bucky forces a smile, wanting to appear happy for his friend. He should be happy but his stomach feels queasy once more.

Bucky joins Steve and some friends at the bar later in the week. Bucky is drinking more than he normally would, tossing back his glass like a lifeline.

"Are we not going to be gentlemen, tonight?" their friend Tony chirps, meeting Bucky's eyes.

"I see no gentlemen here," Bucky jests.

Bucky's face blushes from his lack of experience in the area. He knows most of his male friends have hired women from the town for... intimate excursions. Before, Steve was the only other friend he was certain had no involvement of this nature. But that was before Paris, now Bucky is sure he is the only pure one at this table.

It may be the excessive alcohol making Bucky consider the idea tonight. Presumably, if he was intoxicated he would not need to care much about the sex of his partner.

His friends look amused while Steve looks concerned. Bucky turns away from Steve about to inquire with his friends how to contact women from the town when an older lord walks up to their table.

Lord Rutherfurd is the father of the young lady Steve was dancing with at the ball earlier this week. Bucky's world seems to stop and he can only focus on Steve charming the father of a young lady he may very well be courting.

Bucky's head begins to spin, his stomach churning — heavens, he's nauseated again. This must stop happening to him. He excuses himself and hurries out of the bar.

His carriage approaches as he hears his name called.

"Bucky," Steve calls, running up behind him. "Are you well?"

"I am not sure, my stomach..." Bucky stammers shyly.

"I will ride with you home," Steve insists.

Bucky wants to object but Steve opens the carriage door and hops inside too quickly. Bucky follows him in.

They sit across from each other on the ride home. Increasingly, Bucky finds he can no longer relax like he used to around his dearest friend. This is greatly peculiar.

"You know, when I first began consuming much more food in Paris I too felt unwell with the change."

"I have not been eating more," Bucky retorts.

"I am only saying it may simply be your body adjusting to something new."

"What can be new except my best friend's sizable growth?"

Bucky hears his word choice and blushes fervently. Why must he keep using such curious language to describe his friend's transformation?

Steve doesn't appear bothered by the comment. In fact, he adjusts his position on the bench to find an even more mellow position.

"Perhaps it is something you have not yet accepted. A new curiosity, possibly?"

Bucky looks away, unsure why his heart has begun hammering at the question.

"I do not know of a new curiosity, Steve. I did not travel to Paris to experience such pleasures as you did."

"Pleasure is what I speak of," Steve contends. "You see, when I was in Paris I did not only experience the most standard forms of it. I found it from everywhere and everyone."

Bucky's eyes widen as he turns back to Steve.

"You..." he cannot form the words.

Meanwhile, Steve appears unfazed by any assumption.

"I am only suggesting that you explore your... options. All of them," Steve remarks casually.

Bucky stares at his friend, wary of how to even respond. And then, they are in front of the Barnes' household.

"Good day, Buck," Steve nods curtly.

"Good day," Bucky mumbles and hobbles out of the carriage, completely unbalanced.

hi !! just discovered your blog and have been binging all the recs. wondering if you or anyone else can help me find a fic? bucky is back with steve and they’re living together (i believe it’s established r/ship), but they aren’t having sex as they used to before the war. some nights bucky lapses back into the winter soldier and has enthusiastic sex w steve that is like the D/s r/ship they had previously (w/ dom bucky). issue is, he wakes the next day and can’t remember anything, but steve does. steve steve to work bucky to asking for sex like that as bucky, not the soldier. i believe there’s also a scene where bucky feels really guilty but steve works him through it. any help would be appreciated xx

Hi. I wonder if you have any fanfic recommendations. I’m in a mood for a really sad, sad, traumatized, modern world Bucky Barnes (preferably young, like 1940s Bucky), and he met Steve and he fell in love with Steve but doesn’t allowed himself to, because he’s self loathing. When Steve met Bucky he fell in love too, but noticed Bucky’s insecurities and being the soft Daddy that he is (in his 40s and bearded because holy shit Steve with a beard can kill). He coaxes Bucky out of his own walls that he’s built, and it’s all angst at the beginning but then all sweet and fluffy and sexy 🔥 later on (please I need an explicit fic because i’m desperate). This is an AU- Modern world. And the Avengers are family, and Bucky is an intern at Stark Industries. Young, beautiful, hurt, traumatized Bucky x mature, understanding, gentle Daddy Steve is ma shittttt. The Avengers are in their 40s. (No powers just rich business man). I LOVE this idea but I'm afraid it's veeeery specific and there's nothing quite like it out there 😅 you can search through the tags on Ao3 and maybe you find something, but I think the only solution is that you or someone else writes it. 😉 Honestly I would love to read it so I hope someone does!

The only thing that comes close that I could find is maybe So Alive by GottaSaveBucky (I thought of another fic I read once but apparently it has been deleted). Also @silver-fox-steve-bang is posting soon so maybe look out for some fics that might be of your interest! Hope this helped a little, have a good day! 🥰

He’s making sweet wounded noises that sound all too familiar, and Steve cracks a wry smile when he imagines what kinds of dreams Bucky might be having. He’s about ready to wake him up to love on him when Bucky speaks again.

“Daddy,” he breathes.

Steve’s heart stops. The smile slides off his face as his eyes go wide. What?

My fanfic idea is about Bucky being a precious/ innocent gem that everyone loves, but Steve hates him because Steve has anger issues and he hates people for no reason. But as Steve gets to know Bucky he ended up catching feelings for him. Also Bucky has a crush on Steve but kept it as a secret. Steve ended up hurting Bucky for a little bit because he’s too stubborn to admit his feelings. But everything is fluffy and nothing hurts. Maybe a bit angst but only a little because my poor heart can only handle so much. This is a Captain America Steve Rogers/Modern Bucky Barnes. Bucky is like 26, and Steve is like 38 (minus the years in the ice of course XD). Bucky is a college professor, cause he’s too smart, but he’s insecure :( This could be any ratings.
