I have guards in my oldass house as well. Nothing as impressive as these babies, but having a small swat team of bold jumpers in my house at all times has its benefits. They understand to avoid my cats, but they also have learned over the years that I'm not a threat to them. I have a bloodline of small black wallpuppies who eat the gnats and flies that come up from under my floorboards, and more than once have they politely requested me to taxi them from one shelf to another if they believe the jump is too far. They are small and squish easily, but they pay their rent by keeping disease-carrying flyers out of my rooms. Spiders can be crazy smart, and they're very resourceful when they understand what it takes to live in a certain environment. Extremely useful to us, and most spiders really don't care about trying to bite something thousands of times their size... What's there not to love?

Things that sadden me personally:
We will never know the exact colour of a deinonychus feather.
Some very healthy people believe they are too old to feel the joy of climbing a tall tree.
The internet has brought the world together so we can all meet, but humans are still too inexperienced with it to act right.
I've done a lot of things and been through a lot of training, but I will never be a knight.
Technologies have been developed that let us see and hear across the universe, but Earth still seems to be the only place with life.
Some companies make stories of our best hopes and dreams, but they only do it to make money for themselves.
The call of the very last kauau'i ō'ō was recorded for everyone to hear it, and he only meant for one of his own to answer back.
Things that give me hope:
There are trees alive today that saw what dinosaurs looked like, and they cheekily keep their secrets.
I once convinced someone to join me up in a tree to feel the setting sun, and they looked very happy.
Just as small children must grow and mature when they meet people outside their families for the first time, so too will human cultures meeting others over the internet in due time.
Very few people know me, but kids think I'm really, really cool and that I remind them of knights and soldiers.
I look up at the stars as often as I can, because if the places I'm seeing are from the distant past, then sometime in the distant future they will know I was seeing them.
So many people will see stories from dreams across the world that they will be inspired to make their own, and they do it because they want to share them.
Sometimes when we call out and feel like no one hears us and we're alone, actually many have heard us, and someday someone who knows just enough will find a way to answer back. Even if we're totally alone, all forms of life have it in their nature to look for others, and I think that's very comforting because even if I feel like I have to call out, I may be the one to answer someone else instead, so I listen.

Reblogging this for all of the above reasons. Keep the small folks alive, people. Imagine having to go to such incredible lengths just to live and have an education.
Readers, make sure you have all your favourite Ao3 fics downloaded.
Writers, make sure you have copies of all the fics you have posted on Ao3.
I don’t want to be alarming, but things could get really bad really fast. OTW shared this today on Twitter, and I'm a bit worried about it 😅
Ao3 is a non-profit organisation. If they have to start paying taxes, I have no idea what will happen.

I think some people forget that some literature and some media is meant to be deeply uncomfortable and unsettling. It's meant to make you have a very visceral reaction to it. If you genuinely can't handle these stories then you are under no obligation to consume them but acting as if they have no purpose or as if people don't have a right to tell these stories, stories that often relate to the darkest or most disturbing parts of life, then you should do some introspection.

I have a nagging question... How come Jack has never been pulled over while riding Arcee without having tags? I mean, Bumblebee has one. And if she were ever to get a tag, would it be a tramp stamp, or a piercing...?

"Times are getting harder and everyone is looking for a hero... Everyone's a hero, and no one wants to act on it. That's how we got here. Enough heroes. The world has been enabled by heroes sitting on their asses all day. You may call me a villain, but at least I'm making problems enough to whip the slackers into action. So do something about it."
(I accidentally said this to someone the other day while I was drunk and heated.)
“i am a monument to all your sins” is such a fucking raw line for a villain it’s amazing that it came from halo, a modernish video game, and not some classical text or mythos

This... This whole thread brings me great joy. As someone who creates working biomes as often as I do laundry, I'll consume any resources I can find on the subject.
reminder to worldbuilders: don't get caught up in things that aren't important to the story you're writing, like plot and characters! instead, try to focus on what readers actually care about: detailed plate tectonics

I remember this one from some time ago, and I still love it very much.
The Need to Stay
(Thought I’d upload my recent comics to Tumblr! I totally forgot it only lets you upload 10 pics at a time, and this is 11, but fingers crossed it works!)

As a native English speaker, I can't help but sympathize over this when I consider the Plural versus the Singular use of the word "they."
Either people need to learn how to tell the difference between an “I’m sorry” that takes direct responsibility and an “I’m sorry” that signifies sympathy, or I’m gonna start responding to unfortunate information with a solemn nod and a “Sympies,” because I am tired of receiving a “Why? It wasn’t your fault” every time I try to vocalize compassion.
#language#miltilingual#I still would love to learn another language and it's issues like this that just make me want it more. lol#reblog

I too had a similar experience considering the velocity at which the contents of a single hot sauce packet must achieve in order to produce an airbrush-like image... Without too much explanation so as not to diminish the grand story above, let's just say the results of my experiment ended in the perfect silhouette of a small boy against the interior wall of a bus and I had received a decent reprimand for the tears shed that day.

Freakishly enough, nature said "high res" and my brain just kind of went "how high?" Getting into my thirties and I can still pick out the date on a tossed coin four meters away with the tradeoff that neons are just painful...
Newborn babies all have terrible eyesight so that their brains don’t have to process as much information. Which I think is a little bit funny.
Nature was like “Look, we get it. There’s a lot of stuff out here. A lot of pores on your dad’s face. You have no idea what a hand is. Don’t worry about the pores for now. Just figure out, in general, what a hand is and then maybe we”ll pump it up to high res.”

Reblogging because cat. Is good cat. Also, I have shit luck the moment I attempt anything specifically for luck, so I'm probably about to get a flat tire or something. lol
But this cat appears to be at such peace, I can't not share. Who else would love to nap in the sun with a soft leaf on their forehead? I know I would.

This is the lucky clover cat. reblog this in 30 seconds & he will bring u good luck and fortune.

Yes, this exactly. I could go on to say we could blame things like Disney/etc. for putting up their whole "bad guys always have a reason and are backed by trauma" shtick, but something tells me that's already known. Evil can be evil for shits and giggles, and it's not always obvious. A protagonist doesn't have to be spotless and likeable, just as an antagonist doesn't have to be a moustache-twirling bandit. The day I see characters written to be deliberately misleading again, or at least have that writing done effectively, I think I will have regained hope in the entertainment industry again... And by extension, the consumer's ability to think about that. Having information spoonfed with such obvious and literal imagery is what brought us here in the first place.
people on this website be like “it’s actually school’s fault that i don’t know how to read because i wanted to write my essay on the divergent trilogy and that BITCH mrs. clarkson made us study 1984 instead. anyway here’s a 10 tweet thread of easily disproven misinformation about a 3 year old news story and btw, who is toni morrison?”

Ohio is a large state, what part of Ohio is the cat missing from?
Ah, sorry for the very late response! Artemis is missing out of the Lemoyne area. Not a lot of places to get lost there, but a cat always surprises.

Alright, folks. Signal boosting this one from scratch, because a rather dire situation is at hand.
A very dear friend of mine has lost their emotional support animal, a wonderfully round feline princess named Artemis, and we all believe this has gone on long enough. She slipped through a door one evening over a month ago and hasn't returned since. She is a very smart cat and only four years old, so there's no reason to believe she's succumbed to the outside, but winters up north can get brutal and the season is fast approaching.
Artemis is chipped, spayed, and has had all her shots. She plays with red straws and is a big fan of canned anything, and her human half wants her back very badly. If you're in or around the Ohio area, specifically around Lemoyne, keep an eye out for this precious fluff and please, message me immediately.

Reblog this if you can, we can't rely solely on fliers that get torn down or posted over.
