Maya (Talenthouse / Ladyhawke challenge) I made this portrait of Maya Mihindou not only because she is a close friend, but also because I am still fascinated with her life. She grew up in Africa with a European culture, giving her the dual appearance and perspectives of both the colonizer and the colonized at the same time. She has this special aura about her and I wanted to portray the inner feelings of pride from being part of a mystical African tribe in this artwork. I am also captivated with symbols and masks, so it was a pleasure to materialize this fascination in line with Ladyhawke’s band spirit. Thus this piece is about tribes, pride, esotericism, mysticism, smoke and magic. On a side note, I used to play “Magic” often too while drawing as it gave me a lot of creative energy!
