Whumpee finished unchaining Whumpees arms from the wall, having done all they could to get them out with their abilities. Whumper smiled softly as Whumpees hand stroked their cheek. "You shouldn't have saved me. I don't deserve it," Whumper said. Whumpee shook their head. "No, you wouldn't ruin your own chances here, you can be better I know it."
Soon Whumpee found themselves on the ground, hands around their throat from Whumper, choking the life out of them. Chains still kept Whumper tethered to the wall. They had no hope of escape without Whumpee. Whumpee fights against them, mouthing the words You've doomed us both. Whumper cries a twisted smile on their face "It's only in my nature. It's not my fault."

Talking about my Hunter X Hunter Oc- Hydie
Okay so to preface this she is absolutely 100% a self insert. She's a transgender nonbinary intersex woman who started off on her journey in learning nen when she was born and trained as the son of a pro hunter.
Age: 24
Gender: Nonbinary Woman
Race: Mixed native & white
Sexuality: AroAce but pan oriented
Nen type: Specialist
Here's her base form and appearance (with picrew):
Before I explain the form she tends to transform herself into it is important to be aware of her own powers as a men user. Though she herself is not a pro hunter and holds disgust for the concept of hunters due to the way it impacted her father and thus herself, she has the same amount of power as would be expected of one.
When they initially began training in depth it was found out that they were primarily a specialist. They're closest in adjacency to a mix between a manipulator, conjurer, and emitter. With less strength in the emitter category and even less in conjurer. They're nowhere near what an emitter or conjurer would be in those skills but they only rely on them for smaller aspects of their abilities. In truth she has no need to rely on them in the majority of cases.
Her Nen
Her main focus when it comes to her powers is how she can use wax. Wax of all kinds, anything that's able to melt and reform. She has a high pain tolerance and decided that she'd use it. Originally this came from a place of her mental instability leading her to incorporate harmful behavior into her very fighting strategies. However over time she genuinely grew thicker skin and isn't nearly as harmed from it as a normal person would be when it comes to dousing herself in hot wax. She does this in order to manipulate it into a protective shell and even use it as a way to change her appearance.
Thus she at times does appear the way my Fursona does (art by myself):
This is again a hardened shell of wax. One that can be forcefully chipped away or torn off from her body. She also uses her manipulation in order to control and form from molten wax- sculptures. She's incorporated some techniques of conjuration to better make these sculptures without having to carve life size statues herself consistently like she did in the beginning. She tends to carry excessive amounts of wax on her and uses the power of an emitter to melt it down and create more constructs, or otherwise control the burning substance herself.
With her concentration and powers she's learned how to harden her wax to the point where it can be near the same strength as steel. She can also heat it to unreasonable levels of heat but this is a payoff that lessens the hardness. It also requires that she concentrates excessively and it took decades for her to master. She could technically do this with other materials but she would have to dedicate years of study to artistic work with them like she did with wax.
Backstory
Cw: CSA, trafficking, Hisoka as an abuser, parental neglect
Having grown up in a deeply broken home with parents who clearly did not belong together, a father who was almost always gone for pro hunter work and a mother who's own neglect lead her to forget her child existed- Hydie did not have a good childhood. At some point around when she was six her parents joined a social group of some kind. This religious group had a youth group and a uniquely strange man as the youth leader. He often brought around his acquaintance, Hisoka. This was where her mother found Hisoka. Hydie was young when she first met him and at the time was a boy by the name of Hyde. "He" was rather a handful for "his" mother to handle so she readily accepted Hisoka's offer to help out. Especially when he learned that "Hyde" was a child of a pro-hunter who was eager to be like him.
Leaving any child alone for prolonged periods of time with Hisoka is never going to end well. Hisoka horrifically abused Hydie when she was a child all the way up until she was 14 and her family moved away from the area. Hisoka was not the only one as her youth group leader works quite cruel as well and would essentially pimp her out as a child. Something she still doesn't know wether or not her mother was in on. She was groomed and it took her until she was 18 to realize that specifically Hisoka had hurt her because he framed everything as consensual and helpful to her. Even though she was only eight the first time she was assaulted by him.
When she realized she was full of rage and desperation for revenge. Eventually when she turned 21 she set out to find him and the others who hurt her and deal with them herself. She had no more faith in either the government or the pro hunters as her father had become a broken man from the job as well. Being a disbelieved mess in his retirement. She will destroy those who hurt her by any means necessary no matter who she gets involved with and no matter who she hurts.

tbh if the pro-censorship crowd is confronted with the fact that they don't treat any other type of mature or "illegal" fictional content the same way (violent crime, murder, even illegal drug use), they're faced with two options:
option one is to double down and say they do believe that fiction affects reality in all circumstances, and that other fictionalized crimes should be treated with the same severity as the ships they despise. this is a horrible option because not only does it align themselves with the "violent video games make people violent" crowd, but invites further claims of hypocrisy if they consume any media that involves violence, illegal drug use, and other fictional depictions of "illegal" actions.
option two is to say that no, the shipping content they find abhorrent is fundamentally different from other forms of fictionalized crimes. this, then, begs the question - why do you hold sexual violence to a higher standard than other types of violence? why do you excuse common horror tropes like cannibalism, torture, and dismemberment? why do you not care about "glorified" depictions of things like gun violence, suicide, or murder? what is it that makes sexual content so much worse than other content that also depicts violence, and other activities that could be considered "harmful" if fiction has such a significant affect on the actions of real life people? it opens the door to the fact that there is no real harm-based argument for their stance, and that in reality, their hatred of "problematic" shipping content is based solely in disgust.
it all leads to the same conclusion: bringing down the hammer only on "problematic" ships is a clear indicator that these people are not worried about the harm or damage that could potentially be caused by fictional content. they only care that shippers are here, present and able to be punching bags and fuel for a moral panic.
#ill make sure to reread this later when im not ao tired#reblogging for now so people can see this persons take on it.

Oh man oh boy time to talk as someone who's actually of the opinion that the sexual fics and art people do relating to children is harmful in a way most horror media and even guro is not. This is gonna once again be painful for me to have to even begin to explain but I do know this question is genuine given how often people seem to be so unaware of the actual stances and reasons behind the commonly held views of morality that people have. As an autistic person I'm not immune to being confused by morality either, I always need to understand the logistics of why something is wrong and I am someone who also in philosophy would be in part a utilitarianist.
I consider myself to in this case have a secret third option that actually explains things more properly but if you wonder which of the two examples in your black and white worldview I would be more likely to fall under it would be the second. Sexual violence is abhorrent in a way that physical violence and cruelty will never be capable of amounting to.
Questions & My Answers
1. I hold sexual violence not to a higher standard- though I don't believe you actually meant that. I believe here you're asking why I hold the belief that the harm of sexual violence is more than that of physical violence.
For some context I have been stabbed when I was a child. I also was trafficked. I can say without a shadow of a doubt I would rather be stabbed again than be raped again in every single instance. Even if it struck in a vital place. The trauma from the stabbing has been minimal compared to the trauma from just one of the instances of rape I experienced. Brutal sexual violence is always worse because there is never an excuse for doing so. The only exception would be trafficked individuals forced to have sex with one another but that is not something I consider to be a case of one victim assaulting another but rather the traffickers assaulting them both.
Violence, gore, brutality, and drugs are all lesser evils objectively. And this is because physical wounds can heal much more easily than the mental ones. A violation of your internal anatomy is worse than external wounds. Rape is worse in every way and if I had a gun to my head and the threat of it I'd tell the damn fucker to pull the trigger.
2. I don't inherently. But I also believe those things can hold value in a story when portrayed in a mature manner. (Same thing for SA and rape. I believe it can be shown in stories and media but should NEVER be glorified for multiple reasons including but not limited to the way it hurts survivors and the fact it's just piss poor writing and you don't deserve any credence if you are genuinely just that incapable at making meaningful real and raw art). Cannibalism can happen in a technically consensual way, now of course this spawns a largely philosophical debate and possibly ethical as to whether or not consensual cases are okay but that is a point to pay attention to. It can be consensual, rape can never be. Murder technically can be justified and many people support legal murders depending on the things that the victim did. Such as the support for those vigilantes that kill pedophiles. Torture and dismemberment are similar they're able to happen in consensual scenarios. Which means if it's going on in a ship it can be consensual in which case the morals become more of a matter of debate on how far you can take consent and when you have the right to as a third party revoke it.
By and large though most media doesn't necessarily glorify violence it's usually shown to be quite an evil thing to do. Even slashers make it clear that it's horrific. If the villain is doing it and it's framed as wrong well there you have it. Sexual violence is usually depicted in fanfiction with common justifications used by real rapists present as tropes in the stories. But we don't see a lot of fictional murderers being excused in their narrative because they were in a dark place or it was out of anger for a partner cheating on them or something. Major difference there too.
3. I do care and I do take issue when it's portrayed as a good thing and righteous for scenarios that I do not believe are righteous.
4. Because I clearly have a different moral compass than you and as I said before in question 1, sexual assault is objectively worse than violence.
Your assumption that individuals issues come from disgust and disgust only is a common misconception among proshippers about any and all people with the slightest disagreement with your views. I base my reasons off of logistics and harm reduction. I agree with the standards for depicting suicide to lessen copycats because I care about less suicides not because suicide is icky. I care about not having a media suddenly send me into massive flashbacks and back to the mental state where I worshipped my trafficker because I was convinced he loved me when I was a child. And I don't want the media reinforcing the bullshit ideas about trafficking like Haunting Adeline does where it convinced rich white women they're the targets while erasing and burying the truth further.
The emotions that drive me more than anything are anger and empathy. I am angered and enraged when people defend the racist depictions of natives, I am angered when people spread conspiracy theories about human trafficking, I am angered when people spread narratives about how if you have unwanted groinal responses you deserved to be raped and secretly liked it. That's the issue.
tbh if the pro-censorship crowd is confronted with the fact that they don't treat any other type of mature or "illegal" fictional content the same way (violent crime, murder, even illegal drug use), they're faced with two options:
option one is to double down and say they do believe that fiction affects reality in all circumstances, and that other fictionalized crimes should be treated with the same severity as the ships they despise. this is a horrible option because not only does it align themselves with the "violent video games make people violent" crowd, but invites further claims of hypocrisy if they consume any media that involves violence, illegal drug use, and other fictional depictions of "illegal" actions.

A lot of self proclaimed dark fiction lovers ruin and destroy any and all discussions about dark media because their only understanding of media is as something that exists for their consumption. Their position is one that's filled to the brim with vapid consumerism and a remarkable inability to engage in any form of analysis or reflection of the things that they consume. It's gotten so much harder over the years to find communities of people who love dark media and disturbing stories who aren't just glamorizing it or doing it for some kind of aesthetic or because they find it arousing but because they have a genuine intellectual interest in the media or have lived experiences of horrific things and thus knows how flawed and corrupted the world is.
A story that glamorizes everything that happens and pretends abused kids and brutalized women are happy instead of showing their suffering and pain will never understand the depravity of man and thus fail to invoke any amount of true emotion or move the reader in any way whatsoever. Your work and the works that people pretend to love so much will be forgotten.
I remember how Killing Stalking got over ran by fetishistic straight women who just wanted to see two men fuck and they basically devalued and ignored the author and artist and instead bastardized her brilliant work because they were incapable of grasping the meaning or importance of the story itself. A story that tackled the way gay victims of domestic violence are far less believed and aided, the way fucked up mentally ill people can be taken advantage of by someone who is way more horrific than they could ever be, and the way that abuse can warp your mind, as well as why a victim may defend their abuser. I wish I could have seen people discussing the in depth themes and the suffering that happened. I wish people cared about the actual plot instead of wanting to see only the graphic scenes of assault and getting mad that there's plot. Killing Stalking was a psychological horror and as a horror and disturbing book and comic enthusiast it genuinely breaks my heart that so little people are able to care about these things.
A similar but different situation I can point to as something that just grinds my gears is the book Haunting Adeline and all those who obsessively defend it. Haunting Adeline is a book that tries and fails to tackle serious subject matter and instead continues to perpetuate myths, stereotypes, misinformation, racism, and antisemitism. I don't care that you find the idea of some hot man ravishing you to be excitable. I don't care if you get off to those fantasies but the problem is the target audience is the exact kind of people who would buy into bullshit QAnon theories. The kind of people who like Haunting Adeline are the same kinds of women who claim a water bottle on their car is a sign some scary evil brown man is going to kidnap and traffick them. This is a continued whitewashing of trafficking and trying to make it into a random act that anyone is subjected to when trafficking is a very systemic issue.
I was trafficked as a child and very likely my mother was the reason. I was raised in a cult and the youth group pimped out the kids. I was one of the kids this was done to and my mom was close with my main traffickers. I was a deeply neglected kid and since my dad was away from work for long periods of time I was easy to get to with my mom dropping me off at the cult every day. I wasn't trafficked for being white or white passing, I wasn't trafficked by chance or accident, I was trafficked by trusted adults close to me because I was so severely neglected I didn't know what normalcy was. Others get trafficked often because of issues with immigration and traffickers getting a hold of their papers, or they're targeted because their POC, especially with native women and girls getting trafficked because it's known the police won't do shit for native people.
Haunting Adeline had so much potential and I'm genuinely angry that it could have been a really good story. It could have tackled how a lot of vigilantes turn around and commit the same or similar crimes. Having a predator/traffickers hunter who brutally predates on a woman could be a very impactful story showing the juxtaposition of how he's perceived by others and who he truly is. If you actually handled trafficking realistically instead of bullshit QAnon blood libel and demonizing POC, and actually made the narrative have Adeline best friend have a realistic reaction to finding things out and be horrified but potentially forced to go along with things because of Zade is her boss- it would be so much more impactful. You could still call him morally grey. But of course it has to be for mass consumption it has to be for the white girlies who think they're the most oppressed people ever. It has to be appealing to them and we have to live in a fantasy world because accepting what trafficking actually is and portraying it well requires research and effort and actual care.
I don't want to talk to people who only like dark fiction because they want their hot book boyfriend who's incredibly evil but they justify every action for. It's okay if you do see yourself as having a hot book boyfriend or girlfriend. I fucking love self shipping. But when you use that to shut down conversation and analysis and throw a hissy fit every time someone points out the flaws of a media or ways it could be improved you're annoying and I want nothing to do with you. I also can't stand people who justify their attractions to characters by trying to pretend they're not bad.
Yeah I liked Hisoka and was attracted to him as a character, I still am in part attracted to him. He however is a monstrous character who is CANONICALLY a pedophile and obviously his actions are horrible. That's the point of his character. It's understandable that I, someone who has a massive history of being predated upon, would find a character with a similar behavior to my various abusers who groomed me in my childhood attractive. That to me just shows how well written he is because he hits those similar boxes. I can accept he's a fucked up guy and in a relationship would likely be an abuser. (To be clear Hunter X Hunter is not disturbing media, I just am using him as an example because it's a popular character)
All of this is to say. There's a reason I don't label myself by fandom labels they're too connected to this kind of behavior and attitude. I am obsessed with disturbing media, I am on and off into splatter punk. I am the least likely person to take issue with fucked up books and stories- but I also want them to be good. I especially love books for their whumpy elements because I'm into whump (shocker with this url).

Whumpee who has horrible coping with hypersexuality from trauma
Prompts? Let's go...
Whumpee who goes to bars where they know people are spiking their drinks with the intention of being taken advantage of.
Whumpee who purposefully goes to dangerous areas while dressing provocatively and baiting people into brutalizing them further.
Whumpee who does sex work but not for the right reasons and struggles to admit they may not personally like it and are just stuck seeing it as all they're worth.
Whumpee who physically injures themselves via the way they deal with their hypersexuality such as attempting things their body cannot handle.
Whumpee who blames themselves for the things that Caretaker will constantly promise them aren't their fault and didn't cause them to be hurt.
Whumpee who has a lot of risky or dangerous sex, which though consensual can cause problems for them, as a way to cope and can't stop their hypersexuality from fucking them over.
(Side note: for something that may itch this scratch, Slow Damage a BL visual novel is really good. It does discuss trafficking at some point and as a survivor myself I believe it's genuinely amazing at this and expressing ways survivors may end up coping unhealthily with it)
