NICE HOODIE YOU GOT THERE PT. 8 - DYLAN O’BRIEN

A/N: yep, you’re not imagining things (hahahaha see what I did there?) I’m actually back. Not sure if I’ll be posting regularly again or if this is just a one time thing but I just re-read nice hoodie and I hate myself for ending it on such a cliffhanger so...here we go again :D On that note: how did y’all bare with my shitty english? I’m not sure it actually improved but gaaawd it was terrible. all those misspellings and mistakes freak me out. and yeah - I’d like to apologize for leaving y’all hanging for so long. I’m not even sure if anyone is still interested in this story. also I remember that I started this chapter already a while ago but since I got a new laptop I had to start over again. I don’t even know which direction I initially went tbh. It’s not as long as it could’ve been BUT it’s better than nothing...right?

It’s been a while since I last wrote that much, let alone in english. Hopefully my grammar doesn’t suck as much as it did before tho. I’d like to apologize for any typos in advance - It’s just way too late around here but I wanted to get this done in one go.

I could swear the world around us had vanished. There haven’t been that many people around to start with, but in this moment it felt like Dylan and I were the only ones around. I felt my heart pounding against my chest. Ready to jump out any minute. If only he would say something. But now I didn’t even care what it was anymore. I just wanted him to break this crushing silence. No matter how hard I tried - if I actually had tried - I couldn’t avert my eyes. I couldn’t count how often I had stared into those brown eyes that could melt my heart within second. Probably way too often, if you included the time they appeared on my laptop screen. Yet they always had the same effect. Now even more than ever. I took a deep breath. Staring, hoping, waiting. Very distant I noticed the smile on his lips as they slowly parted. Any minute now. My heart was racing, so fast I was afraid it might stop beating at some point.

“Finally.” One word. One very simple word. At first so distant, but it kept ringing in my ears. Finally. Finally? It took some time until I finally got a grasp of it. Did he really just say finally? Like ...

“Wait... You’re telling me you wanted to do this for... a while?” Confusion and excitement in my eyes. All those negative thoughts I had. Did I only imagine things? Did he actually feel the same?

Dylan gave me a smile that shone brighter than the sun. A nod.

“What were you thinking, silly?”, he replied softly.

His hand gently stroke my cheek as I stared at him in disbelief. No, I must be dreaming. Right? This couldn’t be real.Very slowly I shook my head. Rather reluctant I let go of him, just to pinch myself for a second. My eyebrows in a frown I averted my eyes from him, finally drawn back into reality. But it didn’t change anything. We were still here. So close to each other. The tingling were his lips touched mine still there.

“You...”, I started. But what did I even want to say? To be honest I had no idea.

A soft chuckle drew my attention back to the gorgeous man in front of me, a puzzled look on my face.

“Have I ever told you that you’re hella cute when you’re confused?”

Okay, this had to be a joke. Either this or a very realistic dream.

“Stop messing with my head, O’Brien. My poor, fragile heart can’t handle this.” I almost panicked. I wanted this to be real. God, I really did.

“I’m not. Trust me, Y/N.” His voice was soft, as he leaned in once again. I could feel his breath against my lips. I knew what would happen. Again. 

“Wait...” I whispered as I pulled back a little.

Now Dylan was the one looking confused. I raised my hands, carefully poking his cheeks before resting them on the sides of his head.

“So... this is real?” Dylan nodded in response.

I felt the corners of my lips curling into a smile as I leaned forwards. This time I was the one pressing my lips against his. Within seconds another wave of warmth rushed through my body and swept me off my feet.

This time the kiss didn’t last that long, but it was long enough to let me drift away completely yet again.

“Get a room!” 

My best friends voice reaching my ears was the only reason I pulled away again. I should’ve been annoyed by it. I really should. But I was grateful for Tyler interrupting us this very moment for one specific reason. He made me realize that this, in fact, wasn’t just some weird fantasy I had.

“Rude, dude!”, I replied laughing, my eyes resting on Dylan a little longer. For the first time since we knew each other I didn’t doubt what I saw. There was a spark in his eyes. Probably the same he saw in mine right now. We actually felt the same.

“Wanna go back to him?”, he asked but I could tell we both would much rather prefer to stay where we were.

Despite that, I shrugged eventually. Almost as if he knew what was going through my mind, he quickly grabbed me by the hand and led me back to the shore. As we approached Tyler I could tell that the smile I wore right now was really unusual for me. But I didn’t mind. In fact, I couldn’t care less. This was like a dream come true and all because Dylan decided to interrupt the casual afternoon I originally planned to spend with my best friend.

“Took you long enough.” Tyler said as we reached him. 

Shaking my head in laughter, I playfully punched him. “Shut up, dumbass!”, I added before sitting down.

I was so happy, I wasn’t even surprised when Dylan sat right behind me shortly after. He pulled me closer to him, my back leaning against his chest. I swear, I could’ve stayed like this forever.

Pleasing warmth spread from my hand right up to my cheeks where it left its trace in soft red. Our fingers intertwined, there was still that smile from earlier which just didn’t want to leave my lips. My face actually hurt from smiling so much, but I didn’t mind. Not at all.This was the happiest I have been in a long time and I wanted to enjoy every second of it.

We stayed at the lake for a quite a while up until the sky slowly but surely began to darken. Needless to say that it was Dylan who decided to drive me back home instead of Tyler. We briefly stopped at a small but nice Chinese restaurant to get some take-out before continuing our way back to my place.

Both of us must’ve looked crazy, grinning the whole time, unable to let go of each other even for just a second. I was leaning back, one leg on the seat, our hands on top of it. For a moment my eyes followed the streetlights we passed, reminiscing what happened earlier this day. I was pretty sure I was the luckiest girl alive. Eventually I turned back to Dylan, noticing the same stupidly happy smile on his lips like before.

“Whatcha smiling about, O’Brien?”, I chuckled, well aware of the reason.

“You tell me, Y/L/N.”, he replied not any less teasing. For a second our eyes met and once again the world stopped spinning.

“You’re stupid.”, I said softly as I bit my lower lip.

“Yep, and you dig it.”

My heart skipped a beat. Yes, of course I did. Way too much, as I probably would’ve said before today.But now... things just seemed so different. While to the world nothing has changed, my world suddenly got turned upside down.
