Concept Playlists !!!
you’re curled up in the corner of your bed, trying not to take up any space. the curtains are drawn so the only source of light is a candle on your dresser that seems to be flickering in slow motion. all you want is someone to sleep next to and someone to remind you that this life isn’t a dream, it’s real and it’s tangible and it doesn’t always have to feel this lonely.
you’re talking to him again. you shouldn’t be but his sweet words are dripped in honey and you can still feel his fingertips tracing the marks on your skin. he’s full of empty promises and poorly written story book endings. you’re trying to be cold and callous, but you both know that isn’t in your nature.
your body slips out of your dark room and into the brightly lit kitchen. you aren’t mad at the sunlight coming through the glass windows or the blaring music coming from your neighbor’s radio. you do simple tasks like doing your laundry and making yourself breakfast, and you’re proud. the colors in the sky are saturated and you finally feel good and whole from having a real meal.
you’re not something they can just put in their pocket to carry you around and use you when it’s convenient for them. they can’t just reach in and grab you however they fucking want. they think you won’t retaliate because they called you beautiful and said it’s an honor to even be worth a fraction of their time. they still leave to be with their lover and even take a souvenir from you just to remember you by.
their type of love is not something to flinch from. they don’t use their words to scare you into submission. they’ll hold you at night when you wake up and you can’t breathe. they give you slow kisses when you’re frantically getting ready for work and you’re searching for your car keys. they bring you to bed when you fall asleep on the couch. they make you breakfast in bed after a stressful week. they write little sticky note reminders and put them all over the house when they can’t be around you. they cry at all the right parts in the movies and laugh at your stupid jokes. their love isn’t hard. it’s soft and warm.
arms are wrapped around your waist. you avert eye contact and smile to yourself. you’re not afraid but you can hear your heart pumping in your chest. their kiss is soft and slow like an invitation. their lips find your neck, your collar bone, your fingertips.

some things i’ve learned while studying in quarantine
drink more water instead of more coffee.
weekly goals are bullshit. set yourself 3-day goals. you’ll be less laid-back.
don’t just mindlessly stare at words. before you start studying, know your approach to it. have a plan.
summarizing the concept in your own words is the key part of taking notes. don’t just copy things down, convert them into your own way of talking, your own vocabulary, no matter how dumb and unprofessional it sounds.
don’t let the “studyblr aesthetic” fool you. studying doesn’t have to be pretty. summaries and notes can be messy as long as they’re comprehensible. you can always rewrite and reorganize them later. (honestly, you better do. and you better keep them.)
don’t throw away the papers you’ve solved your problems in. staple them to the fucking textbook. you need to see them constantly. cause you’ll need reminders of how far you’ve came, when you’re feeling discouraged.
don’t be an armchair analyst for your issues. if you have an idea then act on it.
remember: the exact point where it becomes difficult, is where your growth begins. take a deep breath, and try to focus on the paragraph in front of you.
get off your high horse and understand that if you’re a zero, you won’t go to 100 in a couple of days. first, you’ll need to reach 30, then from 30 to 60, and then from 60 to 90. nobody is 100 everyday. that happens very rarely.
you need to have fun everyday. you need to have peaceful time every single day. even on exam night. especially on exam night, actually. so make sure you’ve studied enough so you can have some time to yourself.
once you’re on a roll and in need of some challenge to stay on track, start writing down your studying hours. tell yourself you’re not allowed to do less than 80% of what you did yesterday. whatever the hell it was, even just one hour. so if yesterday you really studied for like, say 8 hours, today your goal is to study for at least 6 and a half hours. if you can’t keep up with that, make it 70%, or 60%.
be forgiving of yourself. be kind to yourself. even if you bounced back and lost your streak. start again. as slowly as you did before. take your time. it’s okay, you were there once you can get there again.

Some pics from today. On 3/6/2020 my ecology laboratory went out the the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area to study some benthic macroinvertebrate life! This was really interesting to me as a budding ecologist because I have never had an experience with aquatic biology.
This day was interesting because logically, you think to stand in the area where the river is flowing most rapidly to catch the most insects, right? Right. However, it is important to consider that the severity of the flowing water can and will knock you over! I fell not once, not twice, but three times into the water today. But it was still a fun day! I’m always okay to be knocked down in the name of science and the really cool specimens we collected today.

Today’s trip was really neat. We went out to the Lewisville Lake Environmenta Learning Area and got to meausure tree distribution using the point quarter method! It was really neat for me as an undergraduate because I’m starting to become familiar with conducting surveys out on the field, starting with plants. Mostly we observed that the trees in the area were Cedar Elm trees but we also recorded data on a Green Ash tree. There were also some Hackberry’s scattered around. We also saw a beautiful tree that grew from a twin seed that produced a “kissing tree”. On our way out my professor showed us this big beautiful tree that had multiple vines growing on it (pictured last). I definitely am more of an animal person than a plant person, but it’s interesting getting to learn more every day about what’s out there for me to learn!
