Where we are today need not be where we are tomorrow.

And if we keep moving, it won’t be!

Some say that heaven doesn’t exist.

Those who have walked the long road to get there know differently.

It looks something like this.

You don’t see a lot of people, do you? 

Don’t follow the crowd. They don’t know how to get there.

When you travel roads that others say are too difficult, that weren’t meant for us, or are against our natural inclinations, then you get to see sights that others don’t get to see; experience feelings that others don’t get to feel; live a life that is otherwise beyond the ken of the masses.

You don’t have to take the easy roads. You don’t have to take the smooth path. You don’t have to follow the crowd down into the valley.

If you want to see views like this one, avoid the clamor. They don’t think you can do it, because they don’t think they can do it.

The majestic life is pursued by just a few rugged souls.

Maybe it isn’t for everyone. Maybe, for some, it is too hard.

But what about you? God can reach down from heaven and pull you up to heights that others said were not possible, were not meant for us, were unreasonable to ask of you. 

Even, that you thought were too much to ask of yourself.

Maybe it isn’t for everyone. But what about you? Maybe it is for you.

With God on your side, a different set of rules can apply.

Some believe that their physical circumstances define them. Others determine to be whomever their spirit chooses to be. Choose then, to be a spiritual subject, or to be your own spiritual master.

You have one life. Choose it to be the very best.

It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.

It isn’t ‘natural;’ it’s better.

You choose. Reach higher. Because you can.

This is the Galatea Lakes trail.

Attempt 1: I got a late start and climbed only to the ridge just before the lake, and had to turn around because I was running out of day. So, didn’t make it to the lake.

Attempt 2: The next week I started 2 hours earlier and lightened my pack by 3 kg. All good, except it had snowed the night before. Again, I didn’t make it to the lake.

The conditions in the high country are now beyond my ability for the rest of the winter. I’ll have to wait for the snow to melt.

Life’s like that, too. You do everything right, but it still doesn’t work out. Then is the time to reach deep for the spiritual strength that allows you to wait patiently, and try again when conditions improve. And they will. 

Say a prayer. God will intervene.  Seasons change.

This cutthroat trout lives in a small mountain lake, over 5000 feet above sea level, that is frozen solid for 6 months of the year. He finds a way. So can you!

In the depths of your winter, close your eyes and imagine spring - it always follows the winter. It will follow your winter, too. Indeed, it may be only a thought away.

There’s lots to complain about - the cold, the snow, the ice, a COVID winter. But, if it weren’t for the winter, we’d never be awed by a frozen waterfall. Look for the gratitude.
